Product Details

Goldwood GW-1038 10" Butyl Surround Woofer 8 Ohm

Butyl rubber surrounds are superior to foam in two important ways. First, the butyl rubber resists moisture and will not dry rot, providing years of service. Second, the rubber surround, due to its superior damping characteristics will greatly reduce cone break up and ensure low distortion. These woofers are ideal for replacing and upgrading old, worn out drivers. They all feature a polypropylene cone, vented pole piece, foam gasket, soft poly dust cap, and stamped steel frame.

Goldwood GW-1038 10" Butyl Surround Woofer 8 Ohm
Goldwood GW-1038 10" Butyl Surround Woofer 8 Ohm is rated 2.6667 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Better than nothing.Recently an old friend from Illinois brought out my 2 pairs of old Altec 3841's... being 30 some years since I'd seen them I was really disappointed in the shape they were in. Over the years he'd substituted woofers, tweeters, and allowed the cabinets to really start deteriorating. I ordered 4 new tweeters, 4 new foam surrounds for the passives, and 4 of these Goldwood GW1038's. I figured the surrounds would be the weak point but they turned out really well. The tweeters are a little brassy for now, but they might mellow down. A high end stereo place told me these would be a DIRECT REPLACEMENT, being that the originals were made FOR Altec BY Goldwood. They really dont sound too bad, but they dont seem to be able to handle the power too well. Someone in another comment mentioned letting them "break in" for 50 hours.... We'll see if that does it. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT AT THE STEREO SHOP THAT RECOMMENDED THESE GOLDWOODS, THEY WANTED $105.00 FOR EACH WOOFER, SO BY GOING THROUGH PARTS EXPRESS I saved almost $300.00 on 4 speakers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a bad replacementThis is a good woofer contrary to others opinions! It has preformed well for my sister. I installed these in a set of her old speakers that were blown. They are much more accurate than the stock one they replaced. These however have a long break-in time.I suggest not turning them up until they have about 50 hours of time on them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from For the Hearing ImpairedI purchased these as replacements for some old Kenwood 9100 tower boxes that did not live up to it. The sound was scratchy and distorted. poor performance. You get what you pay for.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not ImpressedIf you are on a serious budget not bad. But if you are replacing or building mid to high-end speakers put out some more money. You get what you pay for. I purchased two of these for replacements for some Kenwood LS-P9100 speakers and these are the direct replacements. However they distort, flutter and are not as clear as the original Kenwoods.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from look outI'm not really an expert on speakers but the research I did after I purchased these speakers show they are only good for a trunk of a car. I am running http://www.bcae1.com/spboxad2.htm program. I wish I would have done my research before buying....

This driver will work well in in a 1.6Ft3 sealed enclosure, it will be tuned to 42 Hz so the low end will work well.
