Goldwood GM-500CD 1" Horn Driver 1-3/8"-18 TPI

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I don't think these a smart purchaseI am auditioning a few inexpensive drivers. These are the least expensive Parts Express sells, so I thought I'd try one out. They sound quite distorted, and don't seem to be efficient at all. The terminals are poorly attached, and if they have to be removed for any reason, I think the terminal would pull off the driver before the electrical connector would pull loose. I don't think I would attempt to pull any connectors off without holding the base of the terminal firmly with a pliers or vise grip.I don't think there is any application I would recommend these for, as they simply sound substandard. I am always looking for a bargain, but these are pretty much a waste of time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good product.I have used this driver in my PA for several years and have had no problems, of course I use a crossover and used it within it's design specs. Those reviews that speak of using it for a talkbox and having bad results, well duh, it's not designed for that. Putting 50 watts of distorted guitar into just about any horn driver will blow it, stupid!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Homemade TalkboxYou can't beat $12 and change for a driver. It was cheaply assembled, you can tell by first look. When matched with a Dayton Cap (GREAT PRODUCT!) for a high pass, it's an okay Talk box. I ran it at about 30-35W and it didn't blow at high volumes. There are definatly better drivers out there for Talk Box, but this is by far the cheapest.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Should have spent a few bucks more.I may have set a record by blowing this driver up in 15 minutes using a 20W guitar amp. A few bucks more would have been money well spent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute Junk !15 continuous watts RMS blew out the diaphragm in about 10 minutes. A total waste of time and money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from PRETTY GOOD TWEETER.I USE THESE IN MY PA./DJ SPEAKERS, & THEY WORK VERY WELL. THE ONLY THING I DON'T LIKE IS THE PLASTIC HOUSING;BRITTLE! ONE CRACKED WHEN ONE OF THE CABS WAS DROPPED.HAD TO PULL IT OT AND J.B.WELD IT TOGETHER.OTHERWISE THEY R GREAT SOUNDING TWEETERS FOR THE MONEY. I USE A 5K HZ X-OVER @ 12DB & A 20AMP FUSE BLOCK TO ASSURE NO BLOW-OUTS.TRUST ME ON THIS!

Goldwood GM-500CD 1" Horn Driver 1-3/8"-18 TPI

For car audio.

Could these be used in a low powered 25 to 50 watt car audio system as mids. Would like to use back glass as wave guide. Will match with a same type tweeter also off the back glass. Plan to use band-pass of 800 to 5k on mid, then use high pass about 2800k on tweeter.
Asked by: mstokes
These will work for that but only if they are mounted in a horn lens, the rear glass will not act in the same fashion.
