Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wonderful soundI have now had this device for about a week and a half. It has the 2.0 firmware and this is the device's biggest flaw. I have yet to be successful in getting the lock button feature to work, so at any given moment if a person touches any of the buttons, say walking and you bump that pocket, the device does something instead of ignoring it.I read on their website that there is a 2.02 beta firmware as apparently others have complained about some features, however I chose to wait until it is out of beta. For example the volume buttons control the sound level when the screen is lit, as soon as the screen dims and goes out, then if you touch the volume buttons it skips forward or back.I don't want a device where the volume buttons do anything else. It is screwed up when you would like to bump down the volume(or up) and you have to wake the screen to change the volume (this takes holding down the power button for a couple of seconds). Just picking up the device can cause it to skip songs (or start them over) if you touch any one of four buttons which all stick out from the device and they are very easy to touch. The rubber cover included does not let the micro usb to always make proper connection, the instructions say to always use the included cable but I found it to be no more reliable then any other micro USB cable. I ended up cutting the hole bigger. The last thing that annoys me is that the wheel when you rotate it clockwise the menu moves counterclockwise and vice versa. The good points: 2-- micro SD card slots that handle 128GB (This is great)Line output jack along with headphoneSuperior soundcoax out jack (which I haven't used yet)USB DAC capabilitySolid construction (if you threw this at someone it would hurt)The English the device uses is very good unlike many products these daysScreen is very detailed when viewing artwork for its sizeDevice charges quickly and runs for a respectable timePurchased the device early June 2014, I would love to be able to recommend this but until I try new firmware on this X5 I think I won't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great price for great soundI've been waiting for this to come out for a while now, and am glad to finally have it. It sounds great and is pretty easy to use. I did have to buy the SD card elsewhere because parts express does not sell memory cards. No problem. Next step was to download the latest firmware 2.0. That was pretty easy too. Parts Express had a link to the firmware right next to the Fiio, nice touch. The scroll wheel feels a little cheap, but this player is rock solid. I wish they could have made the font on the screen a little bigger too.I too looked into how to re-rip my cd's for the best quality. Was going to go through all the motions on ripping to flac, but noticed that you can rip to wav right on windows media player. It is supposed to be a lossless format. After more investigation, i noticed that you have the option to rip to wma lossless. I couldn't tell you what way would sound the best but wav was very large, wma lossless about half of that, and wma (the default for media player) seemed to be about 1/4 the size of wma lossless,Ive been listening on my sennheiser momentums mainly, due to the great isolation. But the fiio also does a good job driving my Grado's...which my phone seems to struggle with. All said, I'm very happy with the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am blown away!I just received my X5 2 days ago and finally got everything up and running last night. If you want sound QUALITY do buy one! I discovered I'm going to have to delete ALL of the music on my computer that I have an actual hard copy of and re-rip them in FLAC lossless because iTunes and Windows media does NOT make an exact copy of any CD's you may have ripped to your hard drive. I downloaded a free high-rez sampler from HD Tracks and oh my lord does that sound UNBELIEVEABLE! Do it in FLAC though if you want the best possible sound. It can decode DSD as well which sounds better than FLAC. (I know, anyone who knows what this device is would know these things, but, it's for the noob's out there) I must say, I was unsure about buying this but man am I happy I did! No matter if I listen through earbuds, car stereo, or my home system, compressed, lossy, or lossless codecs, I'm hearing details in music I own, know and loved for many years that I didn't know was in it! I am SO pleased with this purchase!

FiiO X5 Portable High Resolution Music Player for Lossless Music Formats 192k/24-bit

Can you recommend the X5 over the X3 (2nd gen), if cost is not a concern? Apart from the storage capacity max, is there any audio quality advantage of one vs. the other? I am leaning towards the X5 and intend to store/play SACD tunes. Thank you - Neil.

Asked by: NeilG
For standard SACD music you would be fine with either player, they both support the DSD format needed to decode SACD. The advantages to the X5 would be the storage capacity, a larger battery and screen.

I am currently using an iPod, with all ALAC files in my 2014 Ford Super Duty Truck, I plug it in using the USB, the Ford Sync system recognizes the iPod, giving me the ability to browse music on my Navigation screen, will this device work the same way?

Asked by: Greg Sanger
Chances are the system will not recognize this device the same way. Fiio does not specify so you may have to contact them for a bit more information regarding this.

Is there a better micro sd card to use for this device?

Asked by: Tunessmith
A Micro SD card class is based on speed. There is no need to get an SDHC card. Just a standard SD Class 4
