Product Details

ESS 689-1012 10" Cast Frame Woofer Speaker

Famous for the superb Air Motion Transformer mid/high transducer, ESS also manufactures woofers that match the AMT's quality and performance. The ESS 689-1012 10" woofer features a specially coated and reinforced paper cone with half-roll rubber surround, the combination of which provides a perfect balance of mass, rigidity, and good linear excursion capabilities.

A cast aluminum frame protects and aligns the woofer's critical moving components, as well as avoiding the diversion or dissipation of the 35 oz. ceramic magnet's high motor strength. Highly conductive and fatigue resistant woven tinsel leads establish a reliable connection between the high-power 1-1/2" copper voice coil and the oxidation resistant gold-plated input terminals.

ESS 689-1012 10" Cast Frame Woofer Speaker
ESS 689-1012 10" Cast Frame Woofer Speaker is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get LowI have matched these up with my 811 ALTEC HORNS. Crossover @ about 800. I built a 2.5 cubic ft box with a 15" long 4"Dia.port. They sound great in my 15x15 room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from even better then the original factory speakerBought these to repair a pair of 30 year old ESS AMT Towers where woofers were completely deteriorated. These replacements wer much better build quality and components then the original factory. It was an easy replacement however, the original cutout was round while the replacements had bump outs on the 4 corners. I had to chisel away some of the wood to make the replacements fit. Also, new woofers stick out a bit further then the originals - the surrounds are thicker and screw heads we not recessed into the frame so I had to set the grill cover out a bit. Overall a bit more work that I anticipated but well worth it. Shipping was very fast - I got the product within 3 days of placing the order.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best choice for my speakersBought the speakers instead of glueing the old chassies and centering them. You'll get a gilded terminals, coated membrane and casted aluminium chassie. No trouble at all - just change and enjoy.Btw.: don't forget to change the capacitors (10µF and 2,2µF) to high quality ones and you're done.Roland

Whose equations were used to arrive at a vented volume of 2.51 ft.³?

The Thiele-Small specs I measured on my pair are QTS= .51, VAS= 2.38, FS= 40hz. The resulting cabinet size (using the equation Vb = Qts 2.87 x 15 x Vas) is 5.2ft.³. I am very disappointed.
Asked by: clintonforsythe
This volume was determined using the manufacture specs from our website and BassBox 6 Pro. When I punch in the parameters and hit "Suggest" I get a volume of 2.516 cubic feet with a tuning frequency of 21 Hz and F3 of 22 Hz. Your Vas is much higher than the manufacturer, how did you calculate this number?
