Electric guitars, guitar amplification, and the birth of Rock-n-Roll in the 1950's collectively established a new use for loudspeakers. Speaker choices were limited in those days and amplifier manufacturers had to purchase products that were common to other applications. Usually, this meant a low-power speaker, often with an Alnico magnet, and limited cone and coil travel.

Due to the nature of the speaker's construction, the sound of the guitar and amplifier combination was impacted by the speaker design. Amplified guitar was a bit more aggressive duty than most other speaker applications at the time and the speakers were frequently challenged in terms of their mechanical movement and linearity. Guitarist learned how to control this non-linearity and use the resulting tonal characteristics to their advantage. Speaker break-up became cool and was a desired feature by most guitarists. The great guitar tones we know now are a result of those events.

Although there are a multitude of distinctive guitar speaker tones available today, they can be broken down into two main categories. We have Marshall and Celestion to thank for the distinctively "British tones" that we are so familiar with. Fender, Peavey, and SLM (Crate/Ampeg) worked with speaker companies like Eminence, Oxford, CTS, JBL, and Electro-Voice to establish tones that are distinctively "American".

Eminence is proud to present the Patriot™ and Red Coat™ series of guitar speakers. Incorporating both British and American cone technology into speakers that are manufactured in the USA gives us the ability to provide you with virtually any tone you desire. Be it British or American, clean or dirty, big bass or screaming highs, we have a speaker that will allow you to "Pick Your Sound".

Eminence Patriot Texas Heat 12" Guitar Speaker 150W 8 Ohm
Eminence Patriot Texas Heat 12" Guitar Speaker 150W 8 Ohm is rated 4.625 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thick But TightThicker bottom end than I thought I'd hear with 2 installed in my Blackface Twin. And not enough top end sparkle to satisfy me. But very easy to control, good response and a fairly even tempered midrange. Easy to get grunt, swamp, very rich indeed. A very good speaker but not the right personality for me. Granted, they were in a Twin, so I wonder how they'd sound setup with an older Bassman head or AC-30 styled amp, something inherently brighter? Might be a very smooth mix.So, I tried a set of Eminence Legend 1218. Significantly more fender like, less tubby, bit of classic honk. Much better for me. Hmmm, now that I think of it, perhaps trying one of each together.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly What Was NeededI bought this speaker to replace a blown speaker in a 50 Watt Kustom Defender combo. The stock speaker in the Kustom was an Eminence of some type, but I had never liked the sound of the amp. The highs were piercing and overall too high end. I had even taken the amp in and had the circuit modified to cut some of the highs. When the speaker would no longer clean up, I started looking for a replacement. I listened to all the styles and read all the reviews, and the Patriot Texas Heat was the choice I made. Great tone with this speaker, the highs are clear but not piercing and the breakup with overdrive or distortion is excellent. This speaker changed the whole sound of the Kustom for the better, much better. The stock speaker was 16 ohm. I bought the 8 ohm version of this speaker, which isn't a problem, since the Kustom lets you set 16,8 or 4 ohms for the output. Very happy with the sound. The amp drives this speaker with no problem at all. I play out 8-10 times a month, and I've seldom have to push the volume over 4. Very efficient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eminence Patriot Texas Heat Guitar SpeakersThese are the best replacement speakers I've ever used, they even sound better that the orginal speakers that I had in my Fender Stage 160. Easily replaced and off to work they go! I recommend the use of the Patriot Texas Heat model to replace any application when looking for a full range speaker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Texas Heat is Hot!!!Replaced speaker in a Carvin Nomad with Texas Heat. What a difference, the sound is amazing; Great low end, sparkling highs and rich harmonics. This speaker is a great value for the dollar, don't let the low price fool you, this is a quality speaker, you can't loose on this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to a Blues Jr.I put the Texas Heat in my Blues Jr. and it really adds punch and clarity. It did not alter the tone and nature of the amp.It adds definition to chords, and definitely improves the bass.
