Eminence LAB 12 Professional 12" Subwoofer Speaker
Eminence LAB 12 Professional 12" Subwoofer Speaker is rated 4.8929 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome SubwooferI have been using Eminence speakers since the 70's and you can never go wrong. The Lab 12 Subwoofer is great. If you want to know what subterranean feels like get it, If you want to know what a kick drum sounds like get it. I built a 1.92 cubic ft. cabinet using a Bash 500 Watt module in a bass reflex enclosure. I have been listening to this woofer for the pass 4 weeks and I'm very HAPPY. My main speakers have dual 12" Eminence woofers in them also. Eminence woofers handle lots of power and they last!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PAL12 tapped horn subwoofer using this driverI recently designed a tapped horn using this driver. It is meant for PA, but could be useful in high output home music systems. With the correct high pass and around 500w rms, this sub kicks some serious butt, for an awesome price vs performance ratio. If you're looking for something that will do 35hz-110hz or so, and not break the bank, in a 30"x38"x15" package, look no more.More on the design here...http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwoofers/232219-325-lab-12-based-pa-tapped-horn-35hz-extension.htmlCheck It out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from goodnice subwoofer, when i opened the box it looked bigger than i expected. this woofer is powerful, with the right frequency sounds i can feel my couch moving across the room. im only powering it with a 120w amplifier, and i can already tell that its not enough power for the sealed box i made.this subwoofer needs some wattage to really show off. but its a great subwoofer for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eminence Lab 12 subs for for hifiI use two of these...each in a 2.5 cuft sealed box. One for left channel and the other for right low, both low passed at 100 hz at 12db/oct. they are powered by an QSC RMX2450. I used them to replace the dayton reference 12s. They fit right in without any extra work on the baffle cutouts. They sound terrific! Their extension is quite deep. Very musical, blend really well with the mains (high end speakers like Harbeth SLH5s, 4pi, etc) and substantially better in every way to the dayton ref 12s. Highly recommended for home hifi use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific ValueI have been looking at this line for a while and pulled the trigger on a pair. I designed a pair of 7 ft line horn with a curved throat exit and put one in each. The idea was to give my son a portable sub system for DJ road work that would be easy to move. He does House/Electro/Dubstep so the material is demanding on the bottom end. When the enclosures are randomly set up they sound good but when configured top to top completing the full horn, the output is raised by 3 db. We're running them with a Crown 2500 with an infrasonic filter a 25hz and crossed at 110 hz. Even though they are rated a 400 w ea they take the full load at 2Kw with ease. Extension is subterranean and loud especially in the chesty region around 60hz. Used the pair facing into the corner of a 200 person club this week and there were things rattling everywhere. Great product and fun project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from this thing absolutely rocksi had this in my home theater hooked up to a keiga 5230 plate amp in the large vented enclosure and it went deep... but war of the worlds did cause it to break up a little bit at higher volumes. but that amp has a subsonic all the way down at 15hz with 4db boost at 25hz so it is understandable.. at my listening level it performed well. i bought a different sub and put the lab in my sons car and it is absolutely phenomenal with a 24db/octave at 30hz subsonic. it is still tuned to 25hz and puts out quite a bit of air movement with no vent noise obviously.it has alot quieter motor than the tc sounds epic 12 i have in my theater now... but its the first day so i will wait to post a revie on that one.

Eminence LAB 12 Professional 12" Subwoofer Speaker

how do you wire this sub to an 4 ohm amp?

this is for my house entertainment center i am wiring a 4 ohm amp to this sub at approx 300watts how should i wire it just straight positive to positive or is there a certain sequence since this is a 6 ohm sub i am a noobie at this thanks for the help
Asked by: Jordan H
This Sub 6 ohm rating refers DC Resistance of the Voice coil, actual impedance changes with frequency which I'm sure will be lower near the free air resonance (FS) specification . Short answer, it is safe to say it will run well on a amp rated 4 ohms @300 watts. The RMS measurement will be lowered but the Distortion measurement will be lowered even more. Especially at full output.

Suitable for a driver upgrade for a Gemini GVX SUB12P (active) PA Subwoofer?

Got a good deal on this sub but looking to get more frequency range and output if possible.Here are the specs for the active subwoofer:System Power Rating: 300 W RMS / 1200 W PEAKFrequency range : 47 Hz - 250 HzMaximum Sound pressure level : 128 dBWoofer size: 12”Woofer Magnet: 50ozLow frequency driver: 2.0” (50.8 mm) Voice CoilCrossover frequency adjust: 55Hz to 200HzEnclosure: 18 mm (3/4”), MDFWeight: 52.9 Lbs/ 24 kgsDimensions (WxHxD): 15.7” x 19.7” x 19.3” (398 mm x 500 mm x 490 mm)Do you guys think this would be a worthwhile upgrade?Thanks

Worthwhile is in the wallet of the beholder, I suppose.Anyway, this is undoubtedly a much better woofer than the stock Gemini 12". The Gemini cabinet is around 2.66 cubic feet which is a nice sized box for a Lab12 in a sealed alignment, so it should perform quite well. However, the Eminence will be under-served by the Gemini amp, as the 1200 watt max is surely an inflated figure, and the Lab 12s need a lot of power despite their own modest handling ratings. The Gemini woofer has a sensitivity of 99db1w/1m which is much higher than the Eminence's 89.2db1w/1m, so watt/watt the Eminence will not be as loud, though it will play deeper and smoother. There is also the issue of impedance mismatch, as the Lab 12 is pretty accurately rated as 6 ohm woofer, and the Gemini is an 8 ohm woofer. This will affect your crossover points and potentially overdraw the amp, burning it up.My advice, this is too nice of a speaker to jam in a hand-me-down cabinet. If you want to use the Lab 12, you would be best off to design a cabinet for it and buy an amp that will meet its demands. Look around some audio forums for project ideas. In fact, the reviews for the Lab 12 here on PE show some really cool ideas, like PA Steve's horns.Have fun!

Can you tell me the difference between this sub and the Eminance 12c? Which is more suited for Automobile use?

Can you tell me the difference between this sub and the Eminance 12c? Which is more suited for Automobile use?
Asked by: Stratous0
The 12c has a "foam surround" and a long voice coil. This is what makes it a subwoofer. The other 12" unit has a "accordion" surround and a short voice coil. The 12c is best for a car use (I used it in an explorer) and it warms and thumps. All the best!!

my home subwoofer is 8 ohms

I have a 300 watt powered subwoofer for my home theater. I blew the factory 12 inch boston that was in their. Will this one be better than the Dayton rss315hfa-8? and also will it work fine with only a 300 watt amp and going from 8 ohms to 6 ohms?
Asked by: mikeado
You will want to choose a subwoofer that will work the best in the enclosure you have. If you can supply dimensions for the box and whether it is ported or sealed I can help you better.

Which one do you think would be better Matt?

The box I have is 18x18x21 and Has 2 rear, 3 inch ports. The amp is THX cert. so the freq is 21-100hz. I dont know if this sub being 6 ohms will hurt the amp and I dont know if the Dayton rss315hfa-8 12". would be a better pick. Thank you for you help!
Asked by: mikeado
Assuming the amp will be fine with a 6 ohm load the Eminence is a much better option.
