Eminence IMPERO 18C 18" High Power Driver Speaker 4 Ohm 1200W

The Eminence Impero 18C 18" high power pro audio speaker is optimized for use in vented enclosures. Its 1,200 watt continuous power rating is a result of Eminence's extensive experience designing and manufacturing loudspeaker drivers for serious professional use.

This 18" cast frame transducer features a 4" diameter copper voice coil that is wound on a fiberglass former. A large magnet, extended and vented pole piece, bumped back plate, and 1/2" thick x 7-1/2" diameter top plate ensure substantial motor strength, resulting in tremendous bass output.

The Impero 18C's performance is ideal for 4 ohm full-range 3-way boxes, bass guitar boxes, and compact to medium-sized subwoofer speaker systems. Recommended enclosure volume: Vented: 113.2 ~ 277.5 liters / 4 ~ 9.8 cu. ft.

Eminence IMPERO 18C 18" High Power Driver Speaker 4 Ohm 1200W
Eminence IMPERO 18C 18" High Power Driver Speaker 4 Ohm 1200W is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Driver, but watch the QCI bought two of these for an install, and they work just as expected. However one of the units had the red and black terminals transposed, which would make it appear to be out of polarity. There are two common ways a driver can be out of polarity, the simple transposing of the terminal markings, or by installing the magnet upside down, which isn't visibly obvious. The voice coils are wound my machine and are almost never backwards. This is not a complaint specific to this driver, or even unique to Eminence. It's always good to test the polarity of any driver or system to confirm it. I've seen mistakes slip through on drivers and systems at all price levels

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ExcellentThis speaker really pounds and can take some serious abuse! I plan to purchase more in the future as replacements for other boxes I have with blown 18's. I'm currently driving it with a Peavey 1500 bridged, with the DDT clip protection on, running at 4 ohms. I can safely clip the heck out of it ALL NITE, and it doesn't care. I needed something bullet proof for my kick drum thump, and this combo does the trick. I plan to get a second Impero 18c and use my Crown iTech 4000 to run one on each channel (though I won't want to drive that amp into clip!)Excellent value, highly recommended!

Will this work really good with the subwoofer Knock Down PA cabinet you sell?...item #245-328 I dont understand all of the driver specs to build my own cabinet.
Asked by: J Man
You should search for a "box calculator" - it allows you to plug in the specs. It will then give you the volume, port diameter and length - along with tuning frequencuy and -3d down point (the F3). This is an expensive driver - and as a DIYer, you should do some homework on a project of this cost. While the knock down cabinet 245-328 is decent. I think you will find that it is way too small - and not the right solution. I'd build a custom cabinet to match the driver. You can read a lot of articles on materials, bracing, sealing air spaces etc... it's not too hard - you just need to take it one step at a time. PE even sells the ports you need.. Good luck and have fun.

what is the optimum enclosure size for use with bass guitar ?

Asked by: neoterra
This woofer will work very well in 5.6 cubic feet with a 6" diameter, 10" long port. This will provide a tuning frequency of 32 Hz which will work well for both 4 and 5 string bass guitars.Rough external dimensions for a box this size would be 18"x18"x37", port placement does not matter.

Weather resistant?

The description references a weather resistant cone/dustcap and a treated surround. Are these drivers truly weather resistant and fit for sheltered, outdoor use?
Asked by: Sfritz
Weather resistant is a tricky phrase. There are specific drivers designed for built-in sheltered applications - such as the subs at the volcano at the Mirage in Vegas. This intention of this driver is to be in a sound reinforcement cabinet and will do well with the elements, sheltered. I would not leave it out permanently. While the cone and dust cap are treated, due to the cabinet design, the internal components have no protection to humidity or condensation.
