Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for small bass ampMy friend's old Valodyne powered sealed subwoofer had its last moment. So I took the perfectly functional 1.7 cu ft enclosure, added a Precision Port, and this Definimax 12 to revive the box. Boy, did it bring it back to life, and then some. Our youth worship team is using it, and they just love it. I was surprised something this small can sound so big. It is full of mid low, which makes the bass sound fat and full. The only draw back is weight - 22 lb for just the woofer, which is about how much a good enclosure of this size would weigh anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best just got better.I normally don t write reviews. However, when something as awesome as this speaker comes along I had to write something. I had experience with the previous model (Magnum 12HO) that the Definimax 4012HO replaced. I didn t think things could get better I was wrong. I have one of these in each of my bass horns. The amount of clean SPL these will generate is unreal. When pushed with 500 watts the sound pressure is so high it modulates your vocal cords and makes it hard to speak. I have them high passed at 35Hz to protect from bottoming out. With the HP filter in place, I ve yet to find just how loud they will go. These things will drive you out of the room. Highly recommended, and I do mean highly. You can t go wrong with these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Driver for Horn Loaded SubwoofersExcellent Driver for Horn Loaded SubwoofersI have used the Eminence 4012 HO in standard reflex, band-pass, and horn loaded designs. It works very well in all fields mentioned but I feel it is ideally suited to horn loading over any other method of implementation. My favorite application for the Eminence 4012 HO is as a pair inside a dual 12 Tuba36 bass horn (quick Google search will show you where the plans are). The driver s natural response contours perfectly to the added air mass in a bass horn creating a DEVASTATING subwoofer that will put ANY dual 18 cabinet to shame. The Eminence 4012 HO doesn t look like an ideal subwoofer candidate but remember; the added air mass in front of the driver in a horn loaded setup drops the driver s fs by about 10hz; all of sudden it is operating in the ideal pass-band for a large format pro-audio subwoofer. Don t let those xmax figures fool you either; in a bass horn you rely on a moving column of air to create output, not the cone s direct motion on a baffle firing into the venue. I ve done numerous paying gigs with Tuab36 s equipped with Eminence 4012 HO's and always have more bass than any other system using the same amount of power and or cabinets. You simply cannot compete with the sensitivity of horn loaded subs. The bass goes deep too, I run my HPF at 33.5Hz for war volume and drop it down to 20hz for moderate playback. The bass just seems to come from everywhere and hug you. You get great piece of mind from the motor structure in the Eminence 4012 HO's, they take a fantastic amount of abuse and I have yet to blow one in my rig; and I have done some very bad things to them. A horn loaded sub with two of these drivers will make a great renter as a careless user will likely not destroy them. This driver really brings a well designed bass horn to life. Main draw back of these drivers; they are heavy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Bass Guitar speakerI purchased 2 of these to go into a 2 X 12 (Aguilar style) cab I built. I am running 700 watts into the two in parallel ( 4 ohms ). They kick out a clean sound and truly blow my pantlegs aside when I hit the e string!!! Great speakers.

Eminence Definimax 4012HO 12" Driver

I have a Gallian Krueger MB 200 and would like to replace the original speaker with one that might handle the B string. I am looking to use this speaker as that replacement. The sealed cabinet volume is 0.7109cu ft. Will this speaker work for my needs?

Asked by: Lonny
You will be hard pressed to get a solid 31 Hz from any 12" driver in that volume. The enclosure itself is the limiting factor and in order to get a tune that low the volume of the enclosure will have to be increased quite a bit.

Need to replace the speaker in my mesa boogie walk about scout. How would this on work? Is the a 4ohm version?

Asked by: CapRoss
This is an 8 ohm woofer. The Walkabout Scout looks like a very unique design that uses a passive radiator and a port. I would recommend either re-coning the original or trying to get a replacement from Mesa Boogie directly.

The best woofer option for this cabinet would actually be the Dayton Series II 12" woofer.http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-st305-8-12-series-ii-woofer--295-120

What sealed volume is recommended for mains if used with a subwoofer.

Asked by: darrellh44
The recommended sealed enclosure for this woofer is about 0.7 cubic feet which will provide an F3 of around 100 Hz. This will work well assuming it is high passed at 80 or higher.

Suggested box volume for two of these?

I have 4 of these and would like to make two 2x12+horn front cabinets for my PA. I would like suggestions for volume, dimentions, ports, sealed, and even type cabinet for full range PA cabs. Thanks
Asked by: DDDD
I would recommend 2.7 cubic feet for two woofers with two 4" diameter ports that are 8" long. This will tune the box to 48 Hz. I would not recommend sealed for this design.
