Eminence D-fend SA300 Loudspeaker Protection

Eminence's D-fend™ SA300 is the loudspeaker industry's first all-digital, programmable loudspeaker protection and attenuation system that is specifically designed to solve problems associated with overpowering speakers.

With the Eminence D-fend loudspeaker protection system, there are no more worries about blown speakers and subwoofers, HF drivers, or crossovers. Even worse... fire caused by excessive heat! Not only does D-fend keep your system safe, but your venue and audience as well.

The user simply sets the thresholds, and D-fend monitors and limits the amount of input power it passes through to the loudspeaker. A built-in USB port connects to your laptop or desktop PC for programming D-fend's parameters to your specifications. Just set it and forget it.

Protect your products, venue, customers, and your reputation, with the first passive speaker protection system that is virtually indestructible. D-fend's power handling is rated at 4,000 watts @ 8 ohms, 2,000 watts @ 4 ohms, and 1,250 watts @ 2 ohms. D-fend is ideal for:

Word of mouth can be an installer’s best friend or worst enemy. D-fend will not only protect your carefully installed equipment, but also gives you peace of mind knowing your reputation is protected as well.

By using D-fend you can rent out your speakers and know that you’ll get them back in the same condition they left. So what comes in on Monday can go back out the door again on Tuesday.

End UsersEnd Users

Own some passive speakers? Chances are you’ve come closer than you think to blowing a driver. There’s nothing worse than stopping a show in progress because you just lost your subwoofer.

Digital Signal Processing

With on-board digital filtering, D-fend provides multiple frequency dependent thresholds and independent attack/release timing parameters. This enables the user to employ D-fend technology prior to passive filtration, and allows increased sensitivity in specific frequency bands such as woofer over-excursion bands or high frequency peak damage regions.

Digital Attenuation

Significantly reduced heat, no bulbs, no light output.

Fully Programmable

On-board microprocessor allows user customizable attack, release, and threshold settings to maximize loudspeaker performance.

High Power Handling

Capable of protecting high power woofers and sub-woofers from over-power conditions as well as mechanical damage thresholds; an achievement unseen within the audio industry.

Allows damage-free operation of woofers, tweeters, and/or midrange devices. Any combination of parallel, series, or parallel-series connected speaker systems can be used on the output of the D-fend. The SA300 is designed for use with transistorized amplifiers with a low-impedance output.

Attenuation slewing algorithms provide lamp-like musicality without the nuisance of light and flammability concerns. Think of it as a high-power, speaker-level limiter allowing the user to guarantee unmatched levels of protection for their unpowered loudspeaker solutions.

Eminence D-fend SA300 Loudspeaker Protection
Eminence D-fend SA300 Loudspeaker Protection is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from used the OEM Beta versionI build custom loudspeakers for professional installation. I was sent one of the protoype beta evaluation kits. We put it through it's paces with several cabinets and then dropped it into a nightclub subwoofer that had been regularly being destroyed by DJs. I have an order placed for the first 10 of this unit when they begin shipping. It takes a bit of understanding to program the unit correctly, and I haven't obviously seen the support documentation that comes with this aftermarket version yet, so I can't say if Joe Average User will be capable of deploying these correctly without guidance, but if you can't understand how to program it I'm willing to bet the nice folks here at PE Tech support can help you in a matter of moments. The OEM Beta had somewhat limited frequency options for the LP & HP points on the function triggers, OEM custom versions will be preset to several of your custom frequency points, again it remains to be seen what frequency options will exist in this version's software. The beta needed an external power supply when used in subwoofer applications, but not when used with full range cabinets, Eminence said that would be addressed with the final version.Bottom line is, it does exactly what you want it to if you have it programmed correctly. It will stop loudspeaker overexcursion and overpower damage dead in it's tracks! It will do so inaudibly, and without stressing your amplifier in any way.Absolutely my strongest recommendations go out for this product.

Eminence D-fend SA300 Loudspeaker Protection

Do you use 1 per channel of the amp or i unit per 2 channel amp?

Asked by: Sinusshaphard123
Each unit will have one input and one output. So one D-fend unit would do one channel of an amplifier.

Asked by: Vann
