Eminence Alpha-6A 6" Midrange 8 Ohm
Found a diy design that uses the alpha 8a. Crosses the via dx25 to the 8a at 1800hz. I can't use the 8a because it's too big. Could I use the 6a with the same crossover? (Design is the pispeakers 1pi)
You could use this in place of the 8a model, but changes to the crossover will probably be required.

I would like to know how these mids would work in my MTX AAL 2230 SPEAKERS.The original mids are lacking. Also would the open back mids have any issues with the sound pressure from the 2 - 12 inch drivers?
This depends on what is lacking in the existing mid. If they need a bit more output to match up well to the other drivers this will probably work well, but the crossovers may need to be modified to give you the best sound. This will require a separate enclosure to isolate it from the woofers.

Should this driver be countersunk in the baffle when used with a tweeter that needs to be countersunk? I assume it's typical to surface mount.
Flush mounting a mid-bass is not as important as a tweeter although it is still recommended.

what response do the Eminence Alpha-6A 6" Midrange have in a sealed enclosure
You need to insert the driver specs into a "speaker box calculator" to determine the volume of the box. Use the spec of Total Qts .707 for flat frequency response. You can search the web for the calculator. It will also let you play with the size and show you how the response graph changes, and also give you ported options if appropriate to the driver.

How realistically low can I cross these over in a 3-way system?
Contemplating a 3-way system with 2 12" woofers (subwoofers, more realistically, Eminence Lab-12) 6" midrange, and tweeter in a horn crossed over 4.5K. System will be bi-amped with 18db/oct active crossover. Hoping to let the mid-range to play starting around 90Hz. Maybe you can suggest more suitable 6.5" midrange.
You'll have a huge hole in the midbass with so much bass section and virtually no air moving in the midbass area. You can build an extended response system (full range), but will always get better performance from a sub when placed in a corner, or separately from the system. ie sub in corner and satellites in and away from walls for imaging... If you were to go with a single 12", I'd cross to a pair of Morel MW164's or something of that flavor. Not sure why you want a horn tweeter. Are you creating a home theater/music system or pro-sound system - the two are conceived in very different ways.

Do you carry a snap on metal grille that would fit these?
The grill referenced below will work with this speaker.
