Dynavox LW8004PMR 8" Woofer

Dynavox is the best kept secret in high end loudspeaker drivers. They were engineered in France and their motor structures were optimized using Finite Element Analysis techniques. This mid-bass driver features a die cast frames, butyl rubber surround, one piece polypropylene cone, and a huge 4" voice coil. The unique motor structure uses magnets located inside the underhung voice coil. The result is a vast improvement in driver linearity and a reduction in harmonic distortions. This also features a vented spider and pole piece to reduce air compression and ensure maximum power handling.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A superb WooferI use this driver in the EnABL reference system. The inherent low distortion allows the EnABL reduction of reflections and diffraction to provide outstanding performance with a first order crossover into a 3 inch dome midrange. Plus, you can disassemble the motor structure and mark the pieces for alignment and it goes back together without fuss. Thus allowing treatment of both sides of the cone surface, to eliminate resonances caused by energy storing reflections. Highly reccomended.

Dynavox LW8004PMR 8" Woofer

How would these work for guitar?  I have a 2x8 cabinet and am not impressed with the speakers. It sounds like one of them is going up and I want something that can handle some power. I like bag end cabs for 12" but am trying for a more portable solution.

Asked by: Udertyrat
I would not recommend this for a guitar application. It handles a decent amount of power but lacks in sensitivity so you will not gain anything. I would recommend something like an Eminence Beta 8 for this, which handles a good amount of power, has a more extended frequency range and way better sensitivity.

Rebuilding Genesis I Speakers

I'm rebuilding a pair of Genesis I speakers and was looking at the DynaVox LW8004PMR speakers. Can you confirm if this would be a good choice for the sealed box size of 11x8x19 and the 1800Hz crossover? If not, what would be a better coice and why?
Asked by: MrBill2U
Yes this will work well in that enclosure volume and with that crossover point.

Asked by: zinger084
I have verified that the DCR of this woofer is 5.2 ohms, which could be considered either a 6 or 8 ohm resistance. i will have our website updated to match the spec sheet.

Is there a way this woofer can work in car application in either sealed or IB?

Asked by: dozyproductions
Yes. If you have a trunk, or the back area of an SUV, you should be able to handle a cabinet with an internal volume of 2.2 cubic feet for a ported enclosure... Tune the vent or an f3 of 32hz. You can use a box calculator, easily searchable online, to get the port diameter and length specs. Make sure you give this amp good clean power.

Magnet weight?

Is the magnet weight available? If not maybe a best guess or weight the whole speaker? Thanks!
Asked by: nonsuchpro
This used to be a very valid question. But now we have neodymium and other rare earth magnets - so a smaller neo is much more powerful than older magnets. Also - weight isn't critical as the same magnet can be charged to a different gauss. In the case of this driver, it utilizes a very special structure of multiple magnets to create a unique field - similar to woofers costing up to $600. If you want to know more about this - you need to visit the mfgr's website. Hope this helps

Can you publish a frequency response graph or data sheet for this driver?

Asked by: drkorb
When we have graphs, specs, etc for a driver, we do publish them on our site. On this particular driver, we don't have the information and therefore, cannot provide it to you. My apologies.
