Dynavox LW5004PMR 5-1/4" Woofer

Dynavox is the best kept secret in high end loudspeaker drivers. They were engineered in France and their motor structures were optimized using Finite Element Analysis techniques. The mid-bass drivers feature die cast frames, butyl rubber surrounds, one piece polypropylene cones and huge 3" voice coils. The unique motor structure uses magnets located inside the underhung voice coil. The result is a vast improvement in driver linearity and a reduction in harmonic distortions. They also feature vented spider and pole piece to reduce air compression and ensure maximum power handling.

    Dynavox LW5004PMR 5-1/4" Woofer is rated 4.2857 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMAGAWDalright, so first things first, I will be useing this in home theater, but so far dont even have it in an an enclosure, working it out, strying to see what this speaker is capable of. i have it running in series with two other w4-1720's from tangband, and these three are run in paralell to my 25-1719s ceramic tweeters also from tangband. setup is crossed at 2000hz. the speaker has amazing... and I mean AMAZING vocals articulation. right now the two fourways are behind me, playing shine on you crazy dimond part 8, siting only two feet apart from eachother, and I can still clearly hear the soundstage reverberating from the sides of the room. im thinking on crossing these with a 6db slope at about 70hz in the tower setup, using a similar encousure as the audiotechnition dude who also wrote a review. meanwhile, ima let the w4's go down to about 50hz , two per box with a pasive radiator. I have had alot of experience with listening to audio, and though this is my first hands on with such speakers, Ive spent the entier summer and the beggining of this fall learning for this... should be cool.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not ImpressedThe speaker wasn't put together well at all. Although I damaged it installing it for a cadillac srx sub replacement I noticed the glue for the cone wasn't dry. I super glued it back together and re-installed it and the sound wasn't satisfying. IMHO it lacks the thump I was looking for in a subwoofer. But I already purchased more speakers for my sony surround sound boxes. Hopefully they will be better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little wooferI bought 2 Dynavox LW004PMR 5-1/4 not knowing how they would sound, To my surprise they sound great. For a small woofer they can take a bit of Power, just make sure you have a nice size port I had to enlarge mine, but overall very clean sound.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dynavox 5 1/4 woofer and tweeter togetherI am smitten with the combination of the 5 1/4" Dynavox woofer and 1" tweeter combination together. They have a synergy together I have seldom heard before in my 40 years of building speakers. With the system I have now created I absolutely need a subwoofer, but using this woofer and the Dynavox tweeter together the sound is seamless and liquid. I am very impressed with this combination, and have each speaker about 7 feet from my head on each side of my bed. It is much better than an expensive pair of headphones. These image like crazy and the sound does not seem to eminate from the speaker, but rather the speaker area. The crystaline highs of the tweeter are exceptional and this is the first really great sounding pair of speakers I have ever built that sound better than many store bought speakers costing thousands of dollars. I guarantee you I have built over 40 pair of speakers in my life, but this is the first pair that really sound better than many I have purchased in high end shops. In the arrangement I am using I absolutely need a subwoofer, but the sound together is amazing. Incredibly revealing, yet ultimately musical. A hard combination to achieve. I have less than $300 in the pair because I bought these on sale. I have them paired with a Linn Classic, so I am only cranking only about 50 wpc, but the sound is absolutely incredible. I seldom crank them up past 50, and I just enjoy listening to the music. These speakers have made me love listening to music again. Cymbols and highs seem to float across the room over my head. Midrange is pure and spot on. Acoustic guitars sound like acoustic guitars. Carlos Santana's distorted guitar sounds incredible - I can hear all the disthortion correctly, the way it sounded when recording. Revealing, yet musical. Well done Dynavox. One caveat - My Klipsch 10" subwoofer fills in the bottom end and makes the speakers sound just right. They were missing something until I added it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good woofer, but must match with high-end tweeterMany moons ago, my friend and I built a two-way floorstander for his "party room". I am a professional designer with a custom loudspeaker hobby business, so I hope that you trust my calculations. We built a 20.53 liter cabinet that measured internally at 6"w.X 6.5"d.X 32 1/8"h. We used a 1.5" dia.X 3.5" port tube for an F3 of 33 Hz. We put 2"high runners on either side of the bottom of the cabinet to lift the speaker off of the floor and ported the speaker at the bottom (similar to older Polk Audio power-port designs). We then experimented with crossover points and decided on a fourth-order filter at 1,800 Hz with a third-order low pass. Although the low x-max of 3 mm. won't allow for high SPL's , The sound was so awesome that we began to laugh when we listened to them...(He calls me "the mad scientist"). I won't tell you about the tweeter that we used, but I would use a high-quality Morel or Scan Speak driver. Seriously people, I have built MANY loudspeakers and, if you experiment a little, you can get these babies to sing! Very neutral sound but are only effective to 2,000 Hz max. Better than most 5" Morels at a cheaper price. If you are into experimenting and can afford the cost, please try our design! You won't be discouraged!!! In this design, maximum RMS is 100 watts of high-current power into 8 ohms. Hope you have as much fun as we did!!!

    Dynavox LW5004PMR 5-1/4" Woofer

In the specification sheet, it is stated that it's a 6 ohm impedance ... Is it a 6 or 8 ohm ?

    Asked by: Philos
With a DCR of 5 ohms, this could be considered either nominal impedance. Since the spec sheet states 6 ohms, this is the number I would trust and I will have our site updated.

    Do y'all have a 5 1/4 BMW subwoofers

    Asked by: chill
Unfortunately we do not have any flat or replacement BMW subwoofers available. We have many options that may work although they may require modifications in order to fit properly. Something like the Dayton below would be a good shallow choice.

    Thanks Doug76 and Big Mike

This one will be floor standing.I have double Dayton low range 5.5s now. The box is 8 inch wide front and back.12 inch to the back and 4 ft high.Ported at the bottom ,On 2 inch thick boards. It sounds good now but I blew a low range and i like to experiment anyway,So want this Dynavox 5.5 with the Dynavox tweeter. The Dayton LR is from the Tritrix kits.4 Ohms. <> What do you guys suggest? I would take pics but both my PVC five ft towers and the 4 ft boxes are unpainted.People generally like noisy furniture because looks are the main interest. I go for quality sound.
    Asked by: clod
5.5" is not a "woofer", in my opinion. I assume you're using a seperate sub?

    Dynavox High and low range

These are the two I want next >Dynavox TD2801XL 1-1/8" Silk Dome Tweeter(Dynavox TD2801XL 1-1/8Part # 275-200 AND >>Dynavox LW5004PMR 5-1/4" Woofer <<< Do you think I could make a two way speaker with those and still have decent low range? Then which two way crossover from this site? Or if I must add another 5.5 low range would the Dayton woofer match up OK with the Dynavox 5.5?
    Asked by: clod
It sounds like you are building an efficient 2 way bookshelf speaker. I think you have good speakers picked out and a single woofer in the right box should give tight lows.PE has several passive crossovers that would work well.

    A crossover for this speaker?

Do you have a crossover for this speaker and a tweeter you would recommend in about a 1.7 cuft enclosure? Tell me which ones to order if you can.
    Asked by: clod
From it's response graph, looks like up to 3KHz would be fine. See graph here

Where is the specification sheet with graphs?

    Asked by: Geoffrey
At this time we have not been provided with a specification sheet for this driver. We do provide the Thiele-Small parameters, which will enable you to design a proper enclosure.
