Designing/Building Speaker Systems 4th Edition Book
Designing/Building Speaker Systems 4th Edition Book is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad, could be betterThis book is 233 pgs long and is ok for beginners. It begins with the basics:1. How a Speaker Works - good2. Kinds of Speaker Encloures - good3. Speaker-Box Construction - better than other beginner books4. Closed-Box Speaker Systems - good5. Ported-Box Speaker Systems - good6. Crossover networks - good7. Fun with Computer Programs - useless; just buy WT3 and RTA equipment8. How to choose and use your speakers - better9. Testing your speakers - very good10. Projects - good11. Appendices - making choke coil, useful formulas - all good to have. The section on enclosure construction is pretty basic and could be updated with more comprehensive coverage of damping materials (pro/cons) and building ported enclosures. No coverage is given regarding infinite baffle designs. The section on Xover design is useful, but fails to go the extra step and demonstrate how to build an actual crossover. It's mostly text, equations, and schmetics - which is needed, but more pictures and practical examples would have made this section better.I rated value as 4.0, because the section on testing is useful and worth the price of the book.I really feel this is a big miss for beginners. The Xover section does not cover in any real depth elementary information, such how to go about assembling, soldering, and installing crossovers. The videos offered on PE are actually more helpful regarding XOver building than this book. much needed information on how to practically build your first XOver. For example, no suggestions are offered on the gauge of wiring to when connecting speakers to your Xover.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Add this one to your collectionVery good IMHO, many useful chapters! I modify vintage speakers along with building custom enclosures and I found this book to be full of valuable information. As a bonus, there is also a chapter full of all the useful formulas which are easily forgotten such as how to figure parallel or series capacitance and inductance. I want books which help me to understand existing systems, not so much on how to design from scratch, and this books helps in that respect. Many of the books I have bought tend to focus only on new builds and are full of projects and fail to encompass the math and learning to modify or upgrade existing crossovers. Most important, this book uses a simple approach and I found most of the text easy to follow. Clearly a book I shall reference again & again .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One book you shouldn't be withoutMy personal favorite. For either begineer or the advanced. Mr. Weems has a way of explaining things in a very precise & easy to understand manner, Some might say it's lacking but it does have everything anyone needs to know & is easy to read. This book will give anyone a complete understanding with a explaination of why

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Get Speaker building 201 insteadThis book has little up to date information and and very poorly concieved advice. It was interesting only because I enjoy the subject but gave no information of value. Buy Speaker building 201 and save your time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from HelloActually the very first book is the best it has alot more info and ideas at 336 pages and it is a very good intro into speaker building, I started in 1976 and bought the book in 1978, but since the first edition it has been pared down, still not a bad book for the beginer.
