Product Details

Denovo Audio Knock-Down MDF 4.0 cu. ft. Subwoofer Cabinet for Dayton Audio 18" Reference Series HO or Ultimax Subwoofer

Even the easiest do-it-yourself subwoofer can turn into an arduous project; from uneven cuts, to measuring mistakes. CNC knock-down cabinets make it easy for the beginner to end up with amazing finished results without all of the time and effort necessary to perfect your woodworking skills. This cabinet is designed for speaker builders and designers who don't have access to expensive tools or a woodshop.

This particular cabinet is designed specifically for the Dayton Audio 18" Ultimax or Reference Series High Output subwoofer, but works for any subwoofer with an overall diameter of 18-1/4" or less, and a cutout requirement of 16-3/4" or less. The sealed enclosure design with minimal fill creates a subwoofer system with a Qtc of 0.644 and an f3 of 40 Hz when used with the Dayton Audio RSS460HO-4, or for the Ultimax a Qtc of 0.714 with an F3 of 32. Adding five pounds of Acousta-Stuf will create a critically damped subwoofer system.

During the CNC manufacturing process, rabbets dadoes are cut into the back panel for precise panel alignment. A unique two-piece brace adds superior rigidity without affecting the subwoofer's performance. Both side panels feature 3/4" rabbeted extensions with recesses to perfectly install the first piece of the two-part, double thick baffle. Plate amplifier installation is made easy by following the scribed interior guide with a jig saw and by modifying one of the braces.

The end result is a resonance-free, sealed subwoofer cabinet that is purpose-built to extract the best performance from Dayton Audio's 18" Ultimax or High Output Reference Series subwoofer. All that's left to do is finish it to match your décor or paint it to stand out. When your friends ask about it, you get the pleasure of saying, "I built it myself!"

Specifications: • Panel thickness: 3/4", front baffle is 1-1/2" • Panel material: Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) • Finished net cabinet volume (subtracting the double thick baffle and bracing): 4.0 cubic feet • External dimensions: 23" H x 20" W x 20.75" D • Subwoofer recess: 1/2" • Weight: 62 lbs. • Made in the U.S.A.

Denovo Audio Knock-Down MDF 4.0 cu. ft. Subwoofer Cabinet for Dayton Audio 18" Reference Series HO or Ultimax Subwoofer is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from AdaptableThis box is well machined and adaptable with a good quality 15 " sub woofer rated at 30 hz fs .Im able to go below 20 hz with out a vent, however ,you'll need a powerful amp rated at least 1/2 Kilowatt .No boom and very musical and defined bass.A good amp should have eq abilities to roll of upper fqs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spend a little money, save a lot of timeThis enclosure went together flawlessly. I could have built it myself, but it would have taken the better part of a day. The CNC routered parts are nice, and everything is slotted / indexed. Tossing it together, carpeting it, and dropping in my JL 18W6 took about 3 hours with taking my time.As soon as I get the amplifiers wired, I'll drop it in the truck and see what it can do.

Why no 8cu ft ported versions?

Asked by: wheelman990
I’m sorry, we do not currently carry any cabinets like that. I will forward this e-mail to our new products division so that we may evaluate this product. Suggestions to broaden our product line are always welcome.

Is there any reason one couldn't assemble two of these back to back (with cutouts in the two mated faces) to make an enclosure of twice the volume. Seems like an obvious way to make a proper yet very easy vented cabinet for an ultimax, no?

Asked by: Timmytom
There is no reason you couldn't do this although the bracing would have to be modified for the driver to fit anywhere other than the designated cutout.

I have a pair of Eminence Kilomax 18's that are not presently in use. What F3 and Qtc could I expect from that driver in this enclosure with varying degrees of fill? Thanks in advance!

Asked by: basin_and_range
In that volume with fill varying from none, minimal, typical and full, you can expect results of (F3/Qtc): 51.21/0.841, 51.18/0.825, 53.26/0.766, 55.97/0.694, respectively.

I just ordered this cabinet for a JBL 2241H, and was looking for some tuning tips. Will polyfill be necessary or should lining the walls with fiberglass suffice? This is just going to be a home theater sub.

Asked by: McMagic
The recommended ports for this application would be a pair of 4" diameter dual flared type, that are 12" long each. This will tune the enclosure to 33 Hz. The bracing will probably have to be cut and modified for these to fit and they will not fit on the front of the cabinet. This alignment will play quite loud but will not reach very low. The 2241 driver is not designed to play much lower than about 35 Hz with a lot of output.

Hi I am interested in using this for an SI HST18. I read that the driver on that sub is a bit too deep to fit in this box without modification. Would it be possible to order an extra front baffle or two with the ring already cut out?

Asked by: toadtongue
Unfortunately we do not have separate front baffles available for these.
