Denovo Audio Knock-Down MDF 2.0 cu. ft. Subwoofer Cabinet for Dayton Audio 12" Ultimax Subwoofer

Even the easiest do-it-yourself subwoofer can turn into an arduous project; from uneven cuts, to measuring mistakes. CNC knock-down cabinets make it easy for the beginner to end up with amazing finished results without all of the time and effort necessary to perfect your woodworking skills. This cabinet is designed for speaker builders and designers who don't have access to expensive tools or a woodshop.

This particular cabinet is designed specifically for the Dayton Audio 12" Ultimax subwoofer, but works for any subwoofer with an overall diameter of 12-3/8" or less, and a cutout requirement of 11-1/8" or less. For optimum performance with the Ultimax 12" subwoofer, add one pound of Acousta-Stuf polyfill for a Qtc of 0.707 and an f3 of 36 Hz.

During the CNC manufacturing process, rabbets and dadoes are cut into the back panel for precise panel alignment. A unique two-piece brace adds superior rigidity without affecting the subwoofer's performance. Both side panels feature 3/4" rabbeted extensions with recesses to perfectly install the first piece of the two-part, double thick baffle.

The end result is a resonance-free, sealed subwoofer cabinet that is purpose-built to extract the best performance from Dayton Audio's 12" Ultimax subwoofer. All that's left to do is finish it to match your décor or paint it to stand out. When your friends ask about it, you get the pleasure of saying, "I built it myself!"

Specifications: • Panel thickness: 3/4", front baffle is 1-1/2" • Panel material: Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) • Finished net cabinet volume (subtracting the double thick baffle, bracing, and subwoofer volume): 2.0 cubic feet • External dimensions: 19" H x 16" W x 20" D • Subwoofer recess: 1/2" • Weight: 41 lbs. • Made in the U.S.A.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like a brick ship houseI have made in my life at minimum 100 subwoofer enclosures, towers and book shelf speakers from scratch. I am now lazy so I purchased one of the 2 cu. ft. Knock down's. Let me say, this is a TANK! I'm not sure if I could have built one better! It's very easy to assemble and the best part I didn't have to sand it!! Don't hesitate if your thinking of one.I installed a Titanic MKIII that I've had laying around and WOW! (That's another review all together)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well ManufacturedThis was my first attempt at a home subwoofer. I do not have the greatest woodworking skills so I relied on Parts Express to supply the pre-fabricated box. I took my time in gluing and setting the panels together. I used Gorilla Glue and Irwin Vise Grips to hold together while the glue set. I then used a caulking sealant on the interior seams and joints to help stabilize the box. After sanding and priming and painting and installing a Dayton Audio Ulitmax and 1000 watt amp, the result?.....Tremendous, tight, punchy bass!! Very happy, but the neighbors are not! Ooops! Thank you Parts Express!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As Advertised......Fits the 12" Ultimax and RSS315HF sub drivers. Nice bracing and over all solid feel. However, unlike some of the other models of sub cabs on this site, there is no scribing for the plate amp cut out. Neither are there instructions anywhere concerning plate amp installation and the need to cut one of the braces to make a plate amp fit. Can't give 5 stars due to those reasons. Other than those issues, nice job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to assemble, quallity box.The first one I received had some really banged up corners. Parts Express took care of me and rushed out another which arrived in perfect condition. For someone like me who is not even a novice woodworker, putting this together has been a slow but simple process. The CNC cut pieces align perfectly, and all I have to do is glue and clamp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Knock-Down Boxes are the wave of the future!!!First review for Parts Express and a long time customer. I purchased 2 Dayton 12" Ultimax's and don't think they had these boxes yet. So after a failed ported box project, I ordered these knock down boxes and decided that this would be the way to go.I was skeptical because I have never had a sealed box but these Ultimax's are specifically designed for the 2cf boxes. Free shipping makes this is a great price and value. But if you don't own 24" clamps, that can be a high added expense.Never made a box without using screws either, but I purchased Titebond Ultimate for the glue.So the shipment arrived safe and sound. Everything fit and went together great. The only thing is you have to make sure your braces are "squared" because mine were not with just eyeballing. I had to sand the front for the panel to set flush.Other than that, the fit and quality of wood is awesome. The 3/4 inch partical board I have used all my life is not like this and MDF board which is not sold by Home Depot in my area. Its much more dense and does not chip.Well, I double stacked these and all is needed is glue - lolThe sound is great but I am still getting use to not having the room pressurized from a ported box but I like what I hear. I also have all ports plugged SVS PB13 Ultra along with this sub.I am using a 1200 watt Bash amp and these Dayton's will take everything I give them in these boxes.I will buy Knock Down boxes from Part Express again for other projects. It's the way to go for me!!!

Denovo Audio Knock-Down MDF 2.0 cu. ft. Subwoofer Cabinet for Dayton Audio 12" Ultimax Subwoofer

Would a woofer with a cutout diameter of 11.4" and an outer diameter of 12.5" fit in this box?

Asked by: mschachtjr

What do you recommend to get a cherry colored finish on the outside of the cabinet? Regular paint or some type of laquer?

Asked by: Chris Branstrom
The easiest method on MDF is to cover the enclosure in veneer and stain that. Painting MDF can be done but is very tricky and takes a lot of prep work. There are many threads about this on our Tech Talk forum, so you may want to check there to see different peoples applications.

Will the baffle cutout accommodate Eminence Lab12? The dimensions of both the woofers look almost the same unless I am missing something.

Asked by: alok
Yes this should work well with the Lab 12 woofer.

Would one roll of the Band-It veneer sold here at PE be enough to finish all sides of this cabinet? If so, how much room for error is there?

Asked by: Sintek
One roll will cover the sides, top, bottom and back although we recommend painting the front due to the rounded over edges. Covering the 5 sides will leave roughly 10" of veneer left over.
