Denovo Audio Knock-Down MDF 0.23 cu. ft. Mini Bookshelf Speaker Cabinet

CNC knock-down cabinets make it easy for the beginner to end up with amazing finished results without all of the time and effort necessary to perfect your woodworking skills, perfect for speaker builders who don't have expensive tools or access to a woodshop. Assembly literally takes minutes!

During the CNC process, dadoes are cut into the top, bottom, and rear of the side panels to ensure a secure fit while maximizing the gluing surface and making assembly easy. The front baffle features roundovers on the sides for a professional look while minimizing diffraction, and the entire cabinet is made of MDF for an acoustically inert effect on speakers. While designed to be a 0.23 cubic foot bookshelf cabinet, this enclosure can alternatively be laid upon its side for center channel use.

Note: Panel dimensions and a 3D SketchUp model are included in the Manuals/Resources section. To open and use the 3D model, you need to download and install a program to unzip the file (7-Zip is free and recommended) and then download and install SketchUp to open the .skp file.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super easy to assembleBought two sets a month ago. I assembled them in about an hour. Use wood glue and I recommend several clamps. The glue held great. These are real solid cabinets. I have not tried to finish the exterior in any way. Can't tell you about that. Also, a jigsaw does a great job when cutting the whole for the speaker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glue trick works well!I read another reviewer recommend using white glue as the "primer" before final finish. It works! The edges of MDF can be a challenge to make smooth, but diluted white glue fills all the crevasses and imperfections.I tried about a 4:1 ratio, and it was too thin. I'd recommend 2:1 or even 1:1.Sand lightly with 180 or 220 grit between layers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great center channel optionI bought this cabinet to use a center channel in my new set up. The cabinet fit together nicely and was the perfect size for what I needed. I am using:HiVi F5 woofer (Part # 297-435 )Dayton Audio DC28F-8 tweeter (Part # 275-070)crossed with a Dayton 2.5k crossover (Part # 260-142)1.5" port (Part # 260-402).The clarity of the mids that the speaker can produce is impressive, and the bass is good for a speaker this size as well. It is probably the best sounding center I have heard and it matches my left and right main speakers which is nice. I would be happy using two of these set ups for some bookshelf speakers in the office or a smaller room. Aside from sounding amazing especially for the price, the parts I used all fit together perfectly without even having to do as much as trim the port length! Making this a very easy project and perfect for a first build. I would highly recommend this for a center channel or even for a pair of bookshelf speakers

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid. Easy assembly. Requires some sanding...Hello, I used these with the Dayton 6" reference woofer and Vifa dual ring tweeters with the cherry vinyl covering. They went together easy but needed to be sanded with my belt sander to get the seams smooth for the vinyl. Not much, though. The speakers sound great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good solid cabinetThe cabinet is veri well built. It is easy to assemble, and a very good quality kit. The value is a little bit overpriced, since for 60 bucks you can by the cabinet pair for the Dayton kit here at PE. The only "flaw" is the lack of a grill option.

Could you fit a 6.5 speaker on top?

As a first attempt at building a full range vented speaker for audio only, would this enclosure work for either the Tang Band W4-1320 or W5-1611? What size port tube should I use? I do have a subwoofer to complement these.

Asked by: bielecki
These will both work in that volume but of the two options the W4-1320SIF looks better. I would recommend a 1-1/2" diameter, 3" long port for a tuning frequency of 70 Hz.

What exactly is the finish on these cabinets?  Or is there any finish at all?  Can't quite tell from the pics.  Is it just particle board finish?

Asked by: 1957Teddy
These and all of our knock-down cabinets are bare MDF.
