dbx 234s Stereo 2/3-Way / Mono 4-Way Crossover

If you want great performance, ultra low-noise, rugged reliability and four decades of dbx knowledge and expertise in building the world's finest processors then the 234s crossover is for you. The 234s uses precision filters to separate the audio signal and direct the correct frequencies to your loudspeaker drivers. By directing only the specific frequency bands to each speaker driver the 234s leaves your amplifiers free to use their full power on the usable signal eliminating distortion and giving your PA system a cleaner and better sound. dbx's 234s dual channel crossover has everything you would expect from a professional product. It features independent output gain controls for level matching, Linkwitz-Riley 24 dB per octave filters, output phase inversion, 40 Hz low cut filter, and optional mono summing of the low frequency (subwoofer) output. Everything in the design exudes great precision from the high quality 1/4" TRS inputs and outputs to the solid "click" controls.

Inputs: • Connectors: 1/4" TRS • Type: Electronically balanced/unbalanced, RF filtered • Impedance: Balanced >50k ohm, unbalanced >25k ohm • Max input level: >+22 dBu balanced or unbalanced • CMRR: >40 dB, typically >50 dB at 1 kHz

Outputs: • Connectors: 1/4" TRS • Type: Impedance-balanaced/unbalanced, RF filtered • Impedance: Balanced 200 ohm, unbalanced 100 ohm • Max output level: >+21 dBu balanced/unbalanced into 2k or greater

Crossover Frequencies: • Stereo mode: Low/High 45 to 960 Hz or 450 Hz to 9.6 kHz (x10 setting); Low/Mid 45 to 960 Hz or 450 Hz to 9.6 kHz (x10 setting); Mid/High: 450 Hz to 9.6 kHz (x10 setting) • Mono mode: Low/Low-Mid 45 to 960 Hz or 450 Hz to 9.6 kHz (x10 setting); Low-Mid/High-Mid 450 Hz to 9.6 kHz; High-Mid/High 450 Hz to 9.6 kHz • Filter type: Linkwitz-Riley, 24 dB/octave, state-variable

Function Switches: • Front panel (Low Cut): Activates 40 Hz Butterworth, 12 dB/octave high-pass filter, one switch per channel • Phase invert: Inverts the phase at the output, one switch per output • Rear panel: x10: Multiplies crossover frequency range by 10, one switch per channel • Mode: Selects stereo/mono and 2/3/4-way operation
• LF sum: Selects normal (stereo) or mono-summed low frequency operation

Overall System Specifications: • Bandwidth: 20 Hz to 20 kHz, +0/-0.5 dB • Frequency response: <3 Hz to >90 kHz, +0/-3 dB • Dynamic range: >106 dB, unweighted, any output • Signal-to-Noise: Ref: +4 dBu, 22 kHz measurement bandwidth • THD + Noise: <0.004% at +4 dBu, 1 kHz; <0.04% at +20 dBu, 1 kHz • Interchannel crosstalk: < -80 dB, 20 Hz to 20 kHz • Common mode rejection (Ref: +4 dBu, 22 kHz measurement bandwidth): Stereo mode >94 dB (Low Output), >93 dB (Mid Output), >90 dB (High Output); Mono mode >94 dB (Low Output), >94 dB (Low/Mid Output), >92 dB (High/Mid Output), >88 db (High Output) • Operating voltage: 100-120 VAC 50/60 Hz; 120 VAC 60 Hz • Power requirements: 15 watts • Operating temperature: 32°F to 113°F (0°C to 45°C) • Dimensions: 1.75" H x 6.9" D x 19" W (4.5 x 17.5 x 48.26 cm) • Weight: 4.0 lbs. (1.8 kg).

dbx 234s Stereo 2/3-Way / Mono 4-Way Crossover
dbx 234s Stereo 2/3-Way / Mono 4-Way Crossover is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from good gear, makes speakers betterI've just converted to a 3-way full active crossover system (from a 3-way active woofer passive mid/tweeter system) and I'm convinced that it was a good investment, and this crossover has so far proven to be a good piece of gear: good build quality, performs as described. I'm using it in a home system with components with RCA signal connections, so I purchased a bunch of TRS-RCA adapters to get everything connected, and that seems to be working fine so far.I know that many speaker builders consider designing good crossovers an interesting challenge, but I found the arguments in favor of active crossovers (they waste power, introduce phase problems, and are pricey if you use good components) compelling, and after trying my current MTMs (Dayton reference 5.25" with Morel 1 1/8" tweeters) with both my homebuilt custom passive crossovers and with this unit (the low end has been the same 12" Eminence woofers, with active crossover and the same amplification in both configurations), I find the sound with the DBX 234 significantly better. And the other thing: When I build new speakers, I don't have to buy new crossover components.

dbx 234s Stereo 2/3-Way / Mono 4-Way Crossover

Is it possible to modify the LOW CUT button to operate at a frequency of 80z or so? Has anyone done this successfully?

Asked by: Thomas Jeffery
I am sorry, we do not have any modifications for this. That would void the warranty.
