Product Details

Dayton Audio VS8 8" Universal Low-Profile Subwoofer

The Dayton Audio VS8 subwoofer was engineered to accommodate the challenging space requirements of modern home audio installations. Despite its emphasis on compact size and flexible connectivity, the VS8's designers maintained Dayton Audio's typical commitment to faithful audio reproduction. A VS8 can be installed permanently in walls, floors, or ceilings, but is attractive enough to deploy in "opportunistic" locations like behind a sofa, beneath a table, or tucked into a corner.

Performance-wise, an 8" long-throw dual voice coil driver and complex bass reflex design that utilizes a flared port produce much more bass than is expected typically from such a small loudspeaker enclosure. The Dayton Audio VS8 low-profile subwoofer is finished in a dark brushed aluminum-look vinyl wrap that complements any décor.

The omni-directional dispersion characteristics and shallow enclosure of this subwoofer facilitate limitless placement options. The VS8 fits between wall studs, and is easy to install (requires a Dayton Audio VS8IG in-wall mounting kit, coming soon!). This subwoofer can also be mounted on the wall externally or placed behind furniture.

Down-firing use beneath furniture is aided by the VS8's included rubber feet, which elevate the subwoofer and protect surfaces. Coupling to the floor via spikes is also possible, and Dayton Audio speaker spikes (sold separately) may be installed as an alternative to the rubber feet. Or, lay the VS8 on its back and use it in an up-firing configuration.

Dayton Audio VS8 8" Universal Low-Profile Subwoofer
Dayton Audio VS8 8" Universal Low-Profile Subwoofer is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features!!This dual voice coil, non-powered subwoofer is most useful with the recent roll-out of Dolby Atmos. Multiple subwoofers together with corresponding three or two way bookshelf speakers allow full range speakers to be deployed at both the 'listener level' as well as the 'height level' speaker positions thus augmenting or otherwise eliminating the need for the LFE speaker(s) in a surround sound home theater system. Parts Express should strongly urge Dayton Audio to continue the production run of this speaker unit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Underwhelming, even considering the constraints.I have worked with speaker enclosure design software and have successfully built many speakers before. I bought this with a blind "trust" that due diligence was done in the design; however, I should have relied on my experience in that an 8" driver can not be adequately designed into an enclosure of these dimensions. One would be much better off attempting this size sub using a 6" long throw subwoofer with a passive radiator. The sensitivity was extremely low and even a 150w plate amp driving this sub did not provide enough bass to notice it was there. (I was adding this to a 6.5" MTM speaker pair.)Not worth it. Not with 2 of them, not with any number of them combined. I remember a "scary bass" project at parts express years ago... I'll likely be looking that one up and constructing it for my needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for use in an RVWorks great with a car stereo amplifier for use in a motorhome. (Placed under jackknife sofa).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Try it ,you'll like it.I cant say how happy I am that I came across this sub-wooferat the 2013 Midwest event, so happy in fact I bought 2.I will admit, I was skeptical at first, but do not regret mydecision. I am using these as stands/ sub-woofers for myMagnepan MMG speakers. I have the SV8 in the downwardfiring position over carpet. The SV8 is exactly the same widthas the MMG's so it is a perfect match visually. Acoustically, thematch up works perfectly for me,as the speed of the smaller 8"woofer does an outstanding job in keeping up with the MMG.The versatility of this unit is another issue all together, making this an even better deal than it already is. I willbe getting 2 more to use in another system as sub / ampstands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the swiss army knife of low profile subwoofer cabinetsIf you don't have the room for a traditional sub cabinet for whatever reason this is the cure and can be used in a multitude of ways . Pretty innovative design. It is meant to be matched with the SA230 sub amp with it's built in 9 db boost at 40Hz.How does it sound ?At the moment I'm using it in my exercise area to reinforce the MTM's I built in 1.0 cu. ft. cabinets with the Klipsch 6.5 buyouts ( 299-101 ) and a Vifa dome tweeter . The MTM's have excellent sound but fizzle out around 80 Hz . Now I can hear a Fender Bass , Hammond Organ or drum sound the way it needs to be . Nice round low end and gets loud enough for the area I'm using it in .Can be used up or down firing , vertically, in wall joists , on wall , in wall or under chair . behind couch . You get the idea .I don't have a sub amp.... yet. But am using the Audio Source Amp 100 bridged with an ART 31 band EQ so I can boost 40 Hz and cut off 18 db's from 100 Hz on up

I got 2 of these subs but one of them often rattles and/or has hums during movie playback. Would it be the problem of the sub or with the amp? I output the sub signal through my Yamaha receivers, 2 sub outs to a stereo amp and then to the subs. Thanks.

If I put this behind the couch, will that significantly reduce the sound quality of the bass coming out of it?

Asked by: TLudlam
The quality of the sound should not differ as long as you leave an appropriate amount of room in front of the woofer and port.
