Dayton Audio TW-0.75BK 0.75 cu. ft. 2-Way Speaker Cabinet Gloss Black

If you want to create a loudspeaker without investing the time and money building one from scratch, these cabinets are the answer. Dayton Audio pre-made enclosures eliminate the time-consuming and messy steps of cutting wood, assembling the panels and braces, gluing veneer, and finishing. Using Dayton Audio speaker cabinets will guarantee superior results every time. 3/4" MDF side and back panel construction is reinforced by a 3/4" MDF "shelf" brace running vertically up the sides and across the top and bottom. The entire cabinet, including the rear, is covered with a piano-quality black lacquer finish that is extremely glossy and reflective. The baffle is 1" MDF with a black satin finish and rabbeted construction. It offers the flexibility of the B-REX replacement system and comes pre-finished without any driver cutouts. The grill is secured to the baffle by neo magnets in line with the machine screws that fasten the baffle to the enclosure. Two 1/4" holes on the back simplify installation of Dayton Audio knock-in binding posts. The cabinet is extremely rigid and solid, with minimized panel resonance. Complete with baffles, hardware, and grills. Add crossover parts, port tubes, damping materials, binding posts, and your drivers to create a complete system rivaling the appearance of the most lavishly presented audiophile speakers.

Dimensions: 17" H x 10" W x 12.5" D.

Note: Cabinet dimensions do not include grill

One of the most innovative features is the exclusive Baffle Replacement and EXchange (B-REX) system, which allows the front baffle to be easily removed for prototyping and construction. The satin black finish baffle has 4 pre-drilled holes for machine screws that line up with matching threaded inserts, to secure the baffle to the cabinet. The baffle can be installed or removed an infinite number of times. This is great for initial driver cutouts, allowing the work to take place on a piece of flat stock, rather than on a finished cabinet.

Thanks to the B-REX system, if you are uncertain whether your speakers are complete, the machine screws by themselves can be used to hold the baffle in place. Once you are ready to finalize the design, they then act as clamps too hold the baffle in place while your glue is setting. Blank baffles are available separately, allowing further possibilities in terms of using a single cabinet for multiple pairs of drivers. As you can see, the versatility offered by the B-REX system is unmatched in any other pre-finished cabinet!

Dayton Audio TW-0.75BK 0.75 cu. ft. 2-Way Speaker Cabinet Gloss Black
Dayton Audio TW-0.75BK 0.75 cu. ft. 2-Way Speaker Cabinet Gloss Black is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Some Extra SpecificationsThese enclosures seem to have plenty of reviewsabout their performance and sound qualities, soI'll just add some information and measurementsabout this particular cabinet that don't appearin the Product Details above. The cabinet has a black gloss finish on the backand sides. The front panel is 1" thick fiberboard, with a satin black finish. It is held onwith four screws with a 3 mm Allen wrench head.(A wrench is supplied, but is kind of cheap.) Thescrews also serve as the ferromagnetic mount forthe front grill which has magnets in each of thefour corners. The front panel is beveled at itsedges so that the area free for mounting speakersmeasures 9" by 16". The inner dimensions of theframe of the front grill limit that available areafurther down to 7.5" by 14.5" minus a little moreroom for the gussets in the corners. I managed tomount a 8.5" diameter speaker in it, but I had tocarve out grooves in the grill frame.Overall, the pair of these that I purchased havedone the job, and look good. But it requires alot of care in the shop to work with pre-finishedwood products.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Resonates!!!I had to do a lot of extra bracing to rid the cabinet of "ringing", pretty exterior, but I feel these are a bit overrated.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful exterior, useful boxVery nice finish and workmanship on the units I purchased. Not the stiffest or least resonant box, and the internal brace limits what one can add to the box. I sued this with drivers and an active amplifier, so there was additiona work to do. Also the front baffle is removable, but seems to be designed to be glued in to seal. Recommended.

2 6.5" Woofers and Tweeter?

I am looking at building a portable bluetooth speaker (i know), and was thinking about using something like this to save time. Do you think I could fit two 6.5" woofers and a tweeter? Haven't selected the woofers yet, but this would be a lower power device. Thanks in advance and feel free to ask questions or make other suggestions.
Asked by: TheHunterOfShadows
This would be an awfully tight fit unless you used a very small flange tweeter. The "usable" size of the baffle is an inch smaller than the published dimensions due to the roundover, so that would leave you with about 3" of space between the woofers. You may consider the MTM version of this same cabinet for more height.

@mark, thanks. However I meant 1 in each box. I think i worded my question wrong. I guess i meant the specs of the speaker .75ft cubic feet.

I just need to look for a xover and a tweeter for it. I am thinking of at least 100rms can you help me look and suggest some parts?
Asked by: StrokerAce
Gotcha - You're going to have to play with the porting on the cabinet a bit. At .75 cubic feet it's very close to the .85 required for an F3 of 44hz. Make sure not to confuse the Vas for the volume required by a speaker. Always use a box calculator or go to the woofer selection guide on PE for help. If you haven't already bought the cabinets - you might want to opt for the 1 cubic foot and reduce the volume with bracing. In a ported application - the woofer should sound really nice... You have a lot of options for a tweeter - only limited by your budget. Your woofer has an efficiency of about 91db (1w/1m). In your budget area - a soft dome will be a good match. Cross over around 2500 hz. Use a 6 db/oct crossover. There are crossover calculators on the site. If you can find a tweeter that is 91db efficiency, you won't need a level control for it. The driver with the higher efficiency will need to be "Padded" to match the other driver - that's why you see level controls on the rear of the cabinet.

I got 2 goldwood 8" woofers model gw-8pc-30-4 and was wondering if I would be able to fit these on these cabinets?
Asked by: StrokerAce
The fit is a bit too tight. At 8" around by 2 - that's 16 inches. Add 1" for grille on each side ant that's 18". This cab is only 17" tall. While these cabinets are an great value - I'm not sure I would want to sacrifice one trying the experiment.
