Dayton Audio TW-0.50BK 0.50 cu. ft. 2-Way Speaker Cabinet Gloss Black

If you want to create a loudspeaker without investing the time and money building one from scratch, these cabinets are the answer. Using Dayton Audio speaker cabinets will guarantee superior results every time. 3/4" MDF side and back panel construction is reinforced by a 3/4" MDF "shelf" brace running vertically up the sides and across the top and bottom. The entire cabinet, including the rear, is covered with a piano-quality black lacquer finish that is extremely glossy and reflective. The baffle is 1" MDF with a black satin finish and rabbeted construction. It offers the flexibility of the B-REX replacement system and comes pre-finished without any driver cutouts. The grill is secured to the baffle by neo magnets in line with the machine screws that fasten the baffle to the enclosure. Two 1/4" holes on the back simplify installation of Dayton Audio knock-in binding posts. The cabinet is extremely rigid and solid, with minimized panel resonance. Complete with baffles, hardware, and grills. Add crossover parts, port tubes, damping materials, binding posts, and your drivers to create a complete system rivaling the appearance of the most lavishly presented audiophile speakers.

Dimensions: 14" H x 8.5" W x 12" D.

Note: Cabinet dimensions do not include grill

One of the most innovative features is the exclusive Baffle Replacement and EXchange (B-REX) system, which allows the front baffle to be easily removed for prototyping and construction. The satin black finish baffle has 4 pre-drilled holes for machine screws that line up with matching threaded inserts, to secure the baffle to the cabinet. The baffle can be installed or removed an infinite number of times. This is great for initial driver cutouts, allowing the work to take place on a piece of flat stock, rather than on a finished cabinet.

Thanks to the B-REX system, if you are uncertain whether your speakers are complete, the machine screws by themselves can be used to hold the baffle in place. Once you are ready to finalize the design, they then act as clamps too hold the baffle in place while your glue is setting. Blank baffles are available separately, allowing further possibilities in terms of using a single cabinet for multiple pairs of drivers. As you can see, the versatility offered by the B-REX system is unmatched in any other pre-finished cabinet!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT BETTER MYSELFThese pre- made cabinets are something to behold.CNC milled, internal bracing, high gloss finish, not muchmore you could ask for. I've seen hi end stereo salonsuse these cabinets and ask pretty hefty prices!I would, however, like to see the omission of the pre-drilledspeaker post, and perhaps some different paint colors.I think it goes without saying, that these cabinets are a realtime saver, but if you have the time and would like to be alittle more involved in the actual construction, then perhapsthe Parts Express knock- down speaker cabinets are whatyou are looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful CabinetsI used these cabinets on my first speaker build since I didn't want to build my own enclosures for my first try. These cabinets are awesome! The build quality is great. They are very heavy and extremely sound structurally. The biggest surprise to me was the extremely beautiful piano black finish. It is nothing short of incredible. It looks incredible with the HiVi M6N's. I will be building a voice matched center channel and the hardest part of constructing the cabinet myself will be matching the glossy piano finish. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Cabinets, Cannot build better at the cos.The cabinets are great, especially the black finish. It feels very high quality, nice and shiny. Unless you have a professional shop you wont be able to build anything of this sort. Just the finishing alone would cost more. The only thing i wish parts express made larger cabinets maybe around 2 cube towers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent ProductI recently purchased a pair of these cabinets for my speaker building project. Normally I build my own cabinets, but decided to give these a try. Very impressed with their overall construction quality and finish. The high gloss piano black finish was flawless and beautiful. I plan to order Parts Express cabinets again in the future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good cabinet.- Very good high gloss finish.- Reasonable price I'm living in Norway, so the the total cost for me is twice shopping price. - Good stiffnes & bracing. To be in the high end range a little more bracing is needed on the front baffle and the back. In addtion damping with bitumen pads are recommended in addtion to normal daming material.- The front baffle is not high gloss. I would have liked that better.- Very practical for the DIY speaker builder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Brainer Speaker Boxes!!!It's one thing to ba able to build your own box, and it's another to come up with this First-Rate finish for 72-Bucks. Construction integrity is ROCK-Solid, too. Side, rear and front baffle thickness, internal-bracing are better than most "audiophile" brands in the sub-$1,000 tier. If the Prince of England commissioned me to custom-build a price-is-no-object monitor, I wouldn't hesitate to use these. As titled, it's a NO BRAINER!

What sort of glue do you recommend for securing the baffle?

Asked by: Wagud
The baffle of these cabinets is designed to be held on with the four screws in the corners. If you choose to glue them in place, standard Titebond wood glue will work fine for this.

new to this, do i need to cut the holes for the woofer and tweeter and all the other stuff? is all the MDF 3/4" on the dayton audio .5 cabinets '

Asked by: ernoselm
The finished Dayton cabinets come with blank baffles so the holes will need to be cut. These same cabs also use 3/4" MDF on all sides and 1" thick baffles.
