Dayton Audio T1204K 12" Titanic Mk 4 500 Watt RMS Subwoofer Kit

Dayton Audio's 12" Titanic Mk 4 Subwoofer System combines power and musicality, and offers excellent all-around performance for serious home theaters or music listening setups. The modestly sized enclosure will fit into most rooms, yet the system's deep and powerful bass will dramatically enhance any application. A powerful SPA500 500 watt amp and long-excursion Titanic Mk 4 driver allow this system to achieve in-room SPLs of 110 dB, with output down to 25 Hz. Amplifier features stereo line-level as well as LFE input, variable low-pass crossover, full parametric EQ, and auto on/off. Also available fully assembled.

Dayton Audio designed the Titanic Mk 4 subwoofer kits to give you the performance you demand, at a price that makes plain common sense. Why buy a mass-market subwoofer that often has a markup of well over 10 times the cost of the parts? If you are lucky, you are getting a $20 woofer and a $20 amplifier. With the Titanic subwoofer kits, you know exactly what you are getting -- nothing but the best in cabinets, drivers, and amplifiers.

Each system features one of our legendary Titanic Mk 4 subwoofer drivers -- U.S.A.-built behemoths known for their excellent build quality and awesome low frequency performance. The driver is precisely mated with a high-power Dayton Audio amplifier that exploits the woofer's massive potential and provides the best sound quality and highest output levels.

Driver and amp are housed in a rigid, acoustically inert 3/4" MDF enclosure featuring an internal brace, a special satin-textured enamel finish, 1/4" roundovers on all edges, and a 1" thick MDF grill. Black chrome spikes, included with the system, rigidly couple the cabinet to the floor for improved bass clarity and output, while also adding a very classy and elegant touch. The finished systems are unobtrusive in appearance, but deliver awesome bass performance that is truly "titanic" in proportion.

Titanic systems are available in an easily assembled kit form that requires a few basic hand tools and approximately one hour to complete. A subwoofer driver, amplifier, and custom cabinet are included, along with instructions and all necessary hardware. The cabinet itself is ready-to-go because the hard work has already been done: driver cutout, amplifier cutout, pre-installed T-nuts for driver mounting, and pre-installed T-nuts for the floor spikes.

Dayton Audio T1204K 12" Titanic Mk 4 500 Watt RMS Subwoofer Kit
Dayton Audio T1204K 12" Titanic Mk 4 500 Watt RMS Subwoofer Kit is rated 4.5714 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Paradign Servo-15 or Titanic Mk III?This sub was purchased for another user, however, it became my enjoyable task to construct the kit. Currently this 12" sub is setting right next to my Paradigm Servo-15 purchased a number of years back. I have not come to definitive conclusions avout preference after about 20 hours of listening (after all the Titanic should be broken in before the user receives). The Paradigm Servo-15 does go to a lower frquency, however, there are distinct differences in sound between the two subwoofers. The short is the Titanic is much tighter and offers much higher transient response giving drums and other base instruments very high definition. Base is certainly deep enough on most music. In contrast the Paradigm does sound a little less "colored", almost as if the enclosure were much stiffer. The sound is not as tight, almost mushy by comparison to the Titanic subwoofer. As mentioned before though the bass extends deeper which is clearly heard on albums such as Titanic where there are true bass notes in the low 30's hertz range. The titanic offers very good value and does compare very well to more expensive subwoofers per my brief and limited comparison.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Save with easy kitI'm very value oriented that's why I like kits. Speakers are one of the last audio areas you can still DIY and save and this is kit/speaker building at its easiest. I do not have another subwoofer to compare performance. It seems adequate to me. If you have a lot of equipment, be prepared to deal with a ground loop issue (extra equipement needed, well explained in the instructions). I didn't like the spiked feet but easy to fix. (Who started this spike thing anyway and why?)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great performanceThis is a great sub, well designed construction, and nice looks. Construction took a little longer than expected because they sent the wrong box that didn't have the cutouts already. Over all im impressed all the a/c vents and well every thing in the house rattles and shakes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good performance- great priceThe speaker/amplifier performance is very good. This is a very easy kit to assemble. This sub is being used with a set of Polk RTi12 front speakers and a JVC receiver. The sub has plenty of power and fills the room with great base. I am still working on setting up the speaker in the system and finding the proper placement in my room. I initially had a lot of 60Hz hum in the sub until I corrected the ground loop problem. The sub has a grounded electrical plug which adds to the ground loop problems. I found that the antenna connection to my system created the largest problem with the ground loop. There are useful instructions with the sub on how to eliminate ground loop problems. However, some of the solutions require the purchase of additional equipment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Product -- Good ValuePROSI purchased the kit version. Parts Express shipped the same day and had it here quickly. As advertised, I had the system assembled and running in less than one hour. There is nothing cheap about this product. All materials, including the cabinet and damping material, are of substantial quality. The sound is excellent -- tight and smooth -- and the soft clipping does what it says it will do. The amp is very quiet and runs cool. I have not had the time to experiment with the notch filter but I can hear that it would be very helpful in certain situations -- this is a strong bass.CONSFor this price, I would like to have seen a remote control as many of the "commercial" subwoofers are now offering. I might be helpful to provide a little more guidance in the instructions as to how to position and secure the damping material. It went smoothly but I was not sure I did it optimally.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome subI bought the sub as a kit to save some money. The kit came in 2 big boxes. Assembly was easy and straightforward. It is very solid. I had to buy some 3M spray adhesive from Ace hardware to attach the foam lining. I could not use the metal spiked feet since I was not on a carpeted floor so I had to buy some rubber bumpers from (p/n 9540k36) and use m6 screws to protect the floor. This sub brought a big smile to my face. It had so much power that I had to turn it down to avoid rattling the windows. I am happy with it and would recommend it.
