Dayton Audio T1004K 10" Titanic Mk 4 Subwoofer Kit

The Dayton Audio 10" Titanic Mk 4 Subwoofer System is the latest evolution of a design that has received enthusiastic reviews from users and the press for over six years. With its 10" Titanic Mk 4 driver and SPA250 amplifier, the T1004 delivers punchy, accurate bass—exceptional for music playback and great for small-to-medium sized home theater systems. Expect useful bass output down to 30 Hz, and output levels up to 105 dB. Features high and low level inputs, built-in variable crossover, auto on/off, and 250 watts RMS output.

Dayton Audio designed the Titanic Mk 4 subwoofer kits to give you the performance you demand, at a price that makes plain common sense. Why buy a mass-market subwoofer that often has a markup of well over 10 times the cost of the parts? If you are lucky, you are getting a $20 woofer and a $20 amplifier. With the Titanic subwoofer kits, you know exactly what you are getting—nothing but the best in cabinets, drivers, and amplifiers.

Each system features one of our legendary Titanic Mk 4 subwoofer drivers—U.S.A.-built behemoths known for their excellent build quality and awesome low frequency performance. The driver is precisely mated with a high-power Dayton Audio amplifier that exploits the woofer's massive potential and provides the best sound quality and highest output levels.

Driver and amp are housed in a rigid, acoustically inert 3/4" MDF enclosure featuring an internal brace, a special satin-textured enamel finish, 1/4" roundovers on all edges, and a 1" thick MDF grill. Black chrome spikes, included with the system, rigidly couple the cabinet to the floor for improved bass clarity and output, while also adding a very classy and elegant touch. The finished systems are unobtrusive in appearance, but deliver awesome bass performance that is truly "titanic" in proportion.

Titanic systems are available in an easily assembled kit form that requires a few basic hand tools and approximately one hour to complete. A subwoofer driver, amplifier, and custom cabinet are included, along with instructions and all necessary hardware. The cabinet itself is ready-to-go because the hard work has already been done: driver cutout, amplifier cutout, pre-installed T-nuts for driver mounting, and pre-installed T-nuts for the floor spikes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough to Beat this SubI've been using this sub for a few years and have done some comparison listening sessions with 10" subs at 2x the price. Most revealing of the tests was against the $650 Paradigm which revealed the Dayton's superior control. Dramatically tighter. I'm not a speaker designer nor an engineer so I'm just guessing its the Titanic driver.I'm so impressed and plan to buy another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I wanted. All I really wanted for Christmas was a little thump to go with my Klipsch WF-35's. My priority is music, but also like nice audio for movies. The build was easy - just like everyone says. Hooked it up to sub output of Yamaha RX-V467 (5.1) and let it rip. After fiddling for a few minutes I left the gain and crossover each at about half and popped in Ace of Base (well, you KNOW which track :). Fantastic!! Plenty of thump and plenty of adjustment to make it suit your taste. That little shred of doubt about whether I should have gotten the 12 or 15 evaporated in about 2 seconds. No buyer's remorse here! Believe what everybody says and don't throw your money away on a big dollar name-brand sub. This thing is a beast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome little subI was trying to decide whether to go with one large sub or 2 smaller ones. I finally decided on 2 smaller subs as they would fill the room better. I had one 12" sub that worked ok but the sound was just muddy. This 10" sub is just fantastic, and 2 of them together is just phenomenal. The build was very easy, had both of them built in just over 2 hours. Build quality was very good. The sound is truly exceptional. You'll get decent bass from just one, but if you want that visceral feel of the bass you'll need 2 or more. You'll spend less on 2 of these then you would on one large sub. Plus the smaller subs are easier to fit in to areas.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Terrific sub and great valueThe performance of this sub is excellent with lots of clean output (used primarily for music, after break-in)Build is easy except for some ill-fitting bolts and threaded inserts which took lots of WD40......even then I could not use the spikes which would not fully engage threads. I ended up using Herbies isolation devices (highly recommended) on wood floor.Still, overall, I am very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long-time customer - DennisThis is one solid, quality unit.Kit is easy to assemble.Speaker is a super solid, for-real deal.It can tak a real load and not even blink. You could spend more bucks, but you will not get a better thump for the buck!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Some Tip for putting this togetherOrdered a pair of Titan 10" subwoofer kits which arrived pretty quickly. I just finished putting them together so this is not a review but more of a tip for future buyer. As careful as I was with the first one, one of the screwed that use to secure the woofer ended up free-spinning even thought I tested all the screwed into all the holes to make sure they worked properly before trying to screwed the woofer in. The solution is to get a can of W40 and grease all the screws plus the T-nut. With the W40, the second woofer assembled without much of an issue. Here are the steps.a# Lubricate all the screws and T-nut for mounting the woofer with W40. Test the screw into the T-nut to make sure every thing screwed in and out with ease.b) Install the speaker spikes. Remove the speaker spike tips so they don't cut you while you put the rest of the subwoofer together.c) There are 6 walls inside the cabinet but only 4 need to have the foam installed since the cut out for the woofer and plate amp took away two sides. The kit comes with two sheets of 18" x 24" foam. Cut each foam sheet into two 18" x 12" pieces. The cut the 18" x 12" piece into one 12" x 12" and one 6" x 12". You should end up with four 12" x 12" and four 6" x 12". The four 6" x 12" pieces will be used for the 2 walls with the brace install. Two of the four 12" x 12" pieces will be used for the wall without the brace. In other words, you should ended up with two pieces of 12" x 12" foam left over for other project.d) Use the 3M glue and spay each inside wall of the cabinet then install the foam piece inside the cabinet one by one. In order word, do one wall at a time and start out with the wall which has the speaker spike installed.e) Cut and strip the end of the amp wire. If you have soldering iron then use it to tin the tip of wire.f) Install the amp.g) Push the wire into the woofer binding posts.h) Install the woofer. This is the toughest step since it is a bit hard to align the holes and this is where thing can go wrong so take your time.It should take a bit more than an hour if you take your time. The last thing you want to do is to re-open the box because you forgot to do some thing right.I set this pair up to suplement a pair of nOrh marble 9.0 bookshelf speaker which has the Scan Speak relevator tweeter and 5 1/2 inch woofer.Electronics consist of a modified APL Pioneer DVD player, Purist IRD preamp. and Audire Forte Amp. Test CD was Tag Mclaren test CD.First impression with zero break in:They are not fast enough to keep pace with the nOrh 9.0. They sounded muddy and slow in general #relatively#. No judgement yet since neither the amp nor the subwoofer are broken in yet. I will write a follow up review in 6 months and hopefully they will do what I hope which is good enough to keep up with the nOrh 9.0 for music. If this work out, I plan to get the 15" version of this kit for home theater purpose.

I am looking for a small project to work on after my TBI and would like to know how the DIY Dayton Audio BR-1 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Monitor Speaker Kit would pair with this powered sub? I will be using a Onkyo TX-8050 for my receiver.

Asked by: mikey34
Yes this sub will work well with the BR-1 kit.

Are any gaskets included for the amp and driver openings?

Asked by: sassuki
Both the amp and driver have gaskets built in, so there are no new gaskets necessary for installation.

It is unfortunate that the amplifier is less powerful than the driver is capable of. Can an additional price be paid to upgrade to a 500 watt plate amp such as 301-514? Would it fit in the opening?

Asked by: aceinc
Unfortunately the kits are only available as-is on the site, however you can buy each item individually and purchase a different amplifier this way. the opening on the back will need to be modified to fit anything other than the amps included in the kits.

What plate amp is included currently with this kit? What amp will be included with the Mk 4 kit?

Asked by: aceinc
The SPA250 is currently included and will be included with the MK4 versions as well.
