Dayton Audio SSMB24 24" Speaker Stand Pair Square Steel Base
Dayton Audio SSMB24 24" Speaker Stand Pair Square Steel Base is rated 3.7778 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, solid standsAfter a few days scouring the web for some decent stands that wouldn't cause me to take out a second mortgage, I settled on these 24" stands by Dayton Audio. The stands were easy to assemble and appear to be sturdy and well built.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great speaker stands, heavy, solid.Bought these a couple of months ago for some smaller PSB Alpha speakers and they fit perfectly (speakers are the size of the top plate). The stands don't take up a lot of room, they seem solid and very sturdy--the only time the cat knocked one over is when she jumped on top of the speaker and jumped off, luckily I caught it before they crashed onto my subwoofer. The only knock I have for these stands is the weird feet and anchors they include for solid floors. The speakers have upside down metal cones to anchor them into carpet, but if you are using them on wood or tile, they have little feet pads that the cones rest on. Anytime you move the stand, half of the pads stick to the floor and require quite a bit more time setting them up then would be expected. Also, though they are adjustable, if your floor is uneven at all (i.e. two tile pieces not exactly at the same height), it is very likely that your stand will either be wobbly, or set up solidly at a tilt. Anyway, for the price, very good stands and I would buy them again, just wish I knew exactly what to expect before I did!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great if properly usedThe stand is an excellent value, but must not be used with heavy speakers on a carpet as it will tip over too easily due to the lack of mass at the base.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Came together in the endStands are great, took a few attempts to get all the hardware from PE. The parts and service people were great and quickly shipped me what I needed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not badNot bad for the $$$ . When the stands arrived the box was open on one end. When I picked it up a couple screws fell out. I quickly open the box and did a parts count. One screw short. After calling Parts Exspress they quickly sent me the replacement screw and one extra. Great customer service! The stands work perfect and look good too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Speaker Stand PairI love that it comes with feet for carpet and hard floors. My speakers are much larger than the platform and was a bit nervous. So I got some super strength Velcro and I feel a lot better.Only negative is that I had difficulty making one of the stands level, however I am a perfectionist so it might not be a problem for most people.

Since the "carpet spikes" don't seem to be spikey enough (based both on the reviews, and looking at them in the picture). Is there a Dayton spike kit that will fit the threads (assuming there are threads in the top cone thingy) in these stands? Thanks!

Asked by: Neoamor
I do not know what the thread size is on the stands, although I don't think the Dayton M6 spikes will fit. If you can verify the thread size on the stands as M6 the Daytons will work fine.

can these be shortened to 16-18 inches? sawing tubes down?

Asked by: mrgreg
The tubes have inserts on the ends to accept the bolts that hold them to the top and bottom plates, so cutting them shorter is not recommended.

How can I plug the large tube for adding sand, and is there a funnel with a small enough opening to fit in that tiny hole at the top?

Asked by: rickm
I would highly recommend using a bead of silicone to seal the bottom portion of the tube to the base of the stand. You should be able to find a funnel small enough to add sand at any automotive or hardware store.
