Dayton Audio Sola Nero Bluetooth Speaker Black

Sola is the one and only stereo speaker you will ever need for listening to great music. Integrated Bluetooth technology allows quick and easy wireless connection to any Bluetooth-enabled device. The system features sophisticated speaker drivers coupled to an efficient, ultra-clean Class-T amplifier, filling any space, large or small, with energetic audiophile-quality sound unmatchable by similarly sized but battery powered speakers.

Sola's contemporary design complements any décor and is available in three finishes. A furniture-grade cabinet utilizes advanced acoustic construction that produces surprisingly full sound.

All volume and tone adjustments are made via your Bluetooth-enabled device, so there is no annoying mismatch or fumbling around between components. Sola also converts seamlessly to a speakerphone—you can conveniently answer incoming smartphone calls while listening to music.

A 3.5 mm audio input is included for wired connection of computers, MP3 players, and other devices as needed, along with a 3.5 mm audio output that allows connection of an active subwoofer system for even more bass. Dayton Audio’s Sola is a perfect fit for the bedroom, dorm, study, kitchen, or anywhere you want to enjoy great audio.

Specifications: • Power output: 15 watts RMS x 2 (30 watts total) • Total harmonic distortion: <0.1% @ 30 watts • Signal-to-noise ratio: 103 dB, A weighted • Frequency response: 70-18,000 Hz • Crosstalk between inputs: 80 dB • Input impedance: 33k ohms ±5% • Input sensitivity: 750 mV • Channel separation: 95 dB • Efficiency: 85% • Dynamic range: >100 dB • Electrical requirement: 18VDC @ 2A center pin positive • Dimensions: 3.75" H x 10.44" W x 7.75" D • Weight: 6.2 lbs.

Sola's cabinet is constructed using a dense non-resonant wood composite material that features a sophisticated acoustic waveguide to increase the bass output. This waveguide also provides additional bracing to form a solid vibration-free, acoustically dead enclosure. The cabinet is then sanded, primed, and painted three times to create a furniture-quality finish. Finally, the entire front baffle is covered with 6 mm thick acoustic grade felt material to reduce any reflections and diffractions caused by the grill and the cabinet's leading edge.

2-1/2" Full-Range Driver

This purpose-built driver was developed by Dayton Audio to extract the best performance from Sola's compact enclosure. Each driver's 3/4" diameter voice coil is wound on a heat-resistant Kapton former for increased power handling. It utilizes a natural sounding paper cone with butyl rubber surround. A tall, domed paper dust cap stiffens the cone while acting as a phase plug to reduce high frequency cancellations and improve dispersion. To minimize driver distortion and further increase high frequency response, an inductance-controlling copper cap for the pole piece was incorporated.

Tested and Tuned

Sola was developed via a lengthy process that included multiple samples, modifications, tweaking, and tuning by Dayton Audio's talented and experienced engineers. The end result is an audio speaker solution that combines clean aesthetics, practical functionality, and superlative sonic performance. Everything that carries Dayton Audio's label meets stringent quality standards and is backed by industry-leading warranties and support.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from For it's price point, it's great.I have had it a week and only have hooked it up to devices that have the ability to EQ the sound. Paired with Bluetooth or direct connection, I am happy with the sound I get out of this. Since it requires 110 VAC, it's not the solution for everyone. I do feel it will meet the needs of most looking to better their Android devices capabilities or to get a improved sound out of a Flat screen TV.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unpleasantly surprisedI love Parts Express, their products and the overall purchase experience. Unfortunately the Sola did not measure up to PE's norm. In fact, I am completely mystified at how poor the sound quality is. I understand that a full-range driver is not going to have great high-frequency performance, but the upper end is so attenuated as to sound like an AM radio. Also, I realize that real bass is not going to happen from a small little box, but not only is the bass minimal it is also very honky/congested. (My 1989 Proton clock radio sounds way better.) I can't figure out how it could get a basically favorable review in Stereophile. Unfortunately I am currently in Cameroon (ordered the radio and a visiting family member delivered it) or I would immediately return it. Very frustrated!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice for background musicThe sound is a little upper-bass heavy (OK, maybe it's a lot heavy! LOL). It's frequency response seems to be tailored for low level background music and for that, it is fine. . It gives the illusion of being a larger speaker. However it will play at modestly loud levels.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Too much bassiBasically it is of good quality. I feel there is too much bass with no individual knobs to adjust treble unless it is done through the phone. One app allows this but another app in same phone doesn't allow adjust. Good product if you are able to turn bass dn and treble up

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Second OneI purchased a Sola shortly after it came out and have been pleased with it - after a little break-in time. This purchase is a holiday gift.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Bass FixI just took the Sola out of the box and hooked it into my I-pod then my computer.I was not expecting it be great based on some of the reviews I had read. I plugged it into my I-pod and put on some Patricia Barber and thought it sounded surprising nice right out of the box. I turned the EQ off on the I-pod and this helped things. The I-pod would only push the speaker so hard so I hooked the Sola into my computer and started up I-tunes. The computer would push the speakers to higher levels. I put on some very bass heavy Amy Winehouse. As I pushed the unit harder (fairly loud considering the size) I definitely heard the overly ripe bass people had been turned-off by. In addition, the midrange lost clarity. OK folks but their 2.5" speakers how much do you think they will take ? There are limits.Having been an amateur speaker builder for most of my life I already knew what I would try first based on what I had read in the reviews. I took a piece of foam and cut it the length of the slot so it would stick into the slot a 1/2" when it was flush with the outside of the slot. I haven't tried different sizes, materials or completely blocking the port. This made quite a difference and all good. It tamed the bass and made it more "natural". It also cleaned up the midrange at higher volumes and gave the speaker a bit more powering handling capability. Why does this work, my thoughts are: that by adding the foam you are blocking some but not all the "bass" coming out of the port and helping tame cabinet resonances. This foam is adding some air resistance into the cabinet helping the little woofers from over extending.I think the midrange is improved by less cabinet resonance, less woofer excursion and midrange sound not escaping through the port. It really isn't a suttle difference and is so easy to do. This is a nice little speaker/amp system for the price, light, portable and something you carry to garage, deck or party. I might do some more modifications if the boys at PE will tell me how to get the grill off with out messing it up. But I may not as it sounds pretty darn good right now. Now if they will just make it battery operated. Recommended with foam plug.

Are there two speaker boxes or one speaker box in the Sola? I see two "drivers" for stereo but not two boxes... You don't get much stereo separation out of two drivers in one box...

Asked by: Mranalogstereo
This unit is one box with two speakers.

One of the reviews described a mod to add tweeters and caps for crossover. At $79 plus two tweeters, I'm thinking this speaker is now a good buy. I vaguely remember seeing photos and details of the mod online. Are any further details available? Thanks.

Asked by: speekerphan18
We do not have any specific information regarding any modifications to this speaker, and any mods will void the warranty. You would have to contact the original reviewer in order to get the details on this.
