Dayton Audio RS722CK Speaker Kit Cherry

Inspired by the DIY Project Showcase's popular "Dr. K's MTM." The RS722 speaker system features two of the most popular Dayton Reference Series drivers: the RS28A-4 1-1/8" Aluminum Dome Tweeter, and a pair of RS180S-8 7" Aluminum Woofers. A carefully tuned crossover design composed of premium capacitors, inductors, and resistors integrates these world-class drivers. The results are simply astounding, with soundstage, presentation, and accuracy rivaling much higher priced off-the-shelf speakers. If you demand a speaker that excels at imaging, dynamic range, and sheer realism, the RS722 system is the clear solution. Available in your choice of cabinet finishes (gloss black, cherry, maple), and in straight- or arc-sided versions. Sold individually.

Now shipping with pre-assembled crossovers. No more soldering!

Dayton Audio® loudspeaker kits are designed to offer the speaker-building hobbyist truly high-end sound quality and aesthetic appeal. Because they are based on the Dayton Audio finished loudspeaker cabinets, the appearance of these systems is world-class. Your choice of three beautiful exterior surfaces (gloss black, cherry, and maple) and two styles (straight- or arc-sided) is sure to blend with any decor.

All engineering from cabinet to crossover was done in the U.S.A., ensuring Dayton Audio speakers will faithfully reproduce the music that you know, with tonal qualities that you prefer. Strong bass and a very smooth top end without unnatural midrange glare are traits common to all Dayton Audio designs. The superb performance of these speakers is guaranteed; the choice of which one is for you should be based on cabinet size, output requirements, driver preference, and personal cosmetic appeal. Although Dayton Audio kits can be assembled by a beginner in one or two hours, the speaker systems' acoustical performance reveals their superb technical pedigree.

Since these speakers are in kit form, you will realize substantial savings by building them yourself. All woodworking has been done; assembly consists of securing drivers and ports, attaching damping materials, and wiring the crossovers and drivers. The process does not require expensive tools or measurement equipment—a general knowledge of electronics is helpful but not required. Crossover networks are completely pre-assembled and ready to connect to the drivers and input terminals using the supplied wires and push-on terminals. No soldering required!

Dayton Audio offers a completely new level of quality previously unavailable in commercially available loudspeaker kits. All of the critical aspects of high-end loudspeaker design and manufacturing have finally been combined into the ultimate DIY kit-building experience. You can own a finished speaker system rivaling those found at exotic high-end salons, and best of all you'll be able to say "I built it myself!"

Dayton Audio RS722CK Speaker Kit Cherry is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great replacement for tired speakersI selected a pair of RS722CK's to replace my tired 3-way speaker system. I've wanted to try building my own from a quality kit. Previous reviews convinced me this was the way to go. Speakers due wear out, and I was surprised at the clarity of this 2-way system. Assembly was simple with clear instructions for each step. Proof of course is when these speakers are heard for the first time. To my delight the mid and high end detail was clear and distinct. The bass response was full, smooth and accurate. I'll enjoy these speakers for years to come. Thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding home theater center channelBuilt one of these as a center channel, mounted horizontally just below the screen, for a home theater in a moderately-sized room. Performance has been outstanding for both music and movies. In particular, vocals have stunning clarity. Enclosure finish is beautiful -- even my wife approves.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Imaging Champs, Micro Dynamics Champs!I have owned over 20 pairs of speakers in this crazy hobby and I like to describe each by the first 1 or 2 things that come to mind when describing the speakers. For these it has to be great imaging, great at micro-dynamic contrast. They do other things very well as well but are terrific at serving up detail without being in your face. They are very business like meaning they don't try to dazzle, they just go about playing whatever you feed them in a very competent way. Excellent with acoustic music. They sound good at low, medium and high level. I finished one side ahead of the other and had it paired with a famous $ 2000 monitor from a world class speaker manufacturer and they trounced them. I would put these up against any speaker up to $ 3000 retail. Weakness? the bass while nicely extended and full may be a tad polite.I tried to upgrade a lot of the parts in the pair I built to get the most out of them and bring them up a notch but I am sure a stock pair will sound almost as good, usually these upgrades act like someone cleaned up the glass window a bit more. I used upgraded binding posts, oxygen free silver coated teflon jacketed wire, bypassed all in series capacitors with Dayton film and foil caps, upgraded the in series caps to Jantzen standard Z series and the in series resistors to Mills resistors, and used WBT silver solder throughout. The service at parts express is excellent. The kit was short one capacitor that they promptly shipped at no cost. Also when one of the cross overs for the tweeter did not work they were willing to repair it at no cost under warranty, but I choose to figure things out on my own since I used some parts outside the kit (turned out to be a bad cross over board, I just redid it with point to point wiring). All in all an excellent kit that goes about playing music in a very competent way, very balanced up and down, does detail and micro dynamics very well and images like crazy.Cheers!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great BuyWent together quick and easy. I've tried all these parts before in my own designs and knew what a great deal this was. After a few hours (about 30) break-in, sat down for a listen. Very good imaging. They definitely shine in the mids, X-over seems almost perfect. The tweeter has no problem and in fact shines with the low crossover point. I like this tweeter allot and have used before in my own speakers, very smooth but only missing the most upper air. Nice sounding low end. The bass response seems a little shy at the deepest octaves. (The biggest problem, IMHO, the woofers need more cabinet. It isn't large enough to let the dual woofers breath.) Don't get me wrong this is an excellent sounding speaker kit that will blow away any other store bought speaker you could buy, for anywhere near this price. Possibly even double the price. But I know this woofer can achieve lower bass. What's there is punchy and fast with hardly any boom. I'm glad I bought this speaker kit to help me evaluate my own progress and designs, overall this is an excellent speaker and I will be recommending to all my D.I.Y. newbie friends.

Dayton Audio RS722CK Speaker Kit Cherry

good for center channel?

Asked by: Greg Hedges
It would work fine for a center channel if the amplifier is rated for a 4 ohm impedance load, which is the rating for this speaker

I'm interested in building a set of studio monitors; could we please get test results for these? Same for the other kits using 'reference' drivers would be a super cool idea. Especially interested in the freq response.

Asked by: Stu Dubya
And by test results I mean the various two dimentional curves like db/freq of the completed cab at 1watt/meter.

This item is listed at 4 Ohm in one place and 8 Ohm in another...  Which is it?

Asked by: Hebdar
This kit is 4 ohm nominal since it uses two 8 ohm woofers in parallel.

Can the speakers be changed such that the end result is an 8 ohm impedence speaker

Have an expesive amp. I wish not to damage speaker or amp.
Asked by: Orey
no... sorry but that's not possible without a total redesign. why not just buy a different set? Part #: 302-772 or Part # 302-952
