Dayton Audio® loudspeaker kits are designed to offer the speaker-building hobbyist truly high-end sound quality and aesthetic appeal. Because they are based on the Dayton Audio finished loudspeaker cabinets, the appearance of these systems is world-class. Your choice of three beautiful exterior surfaces (gloss black, cherry, and maple) and two styles (straight- or arc-sided) is sure to blend with any decor.

All engineering from cabinet to crossover was done in the U.S.A., ensuring Dayton Audio speakers will faithfully reproduce the music that you know, with tonal qualities that you prefer. Strong bass and a very smooth top end without unnatural midrange glare are traits common to all Dayton Audio designs. The superb performance of these speakers is guaranteed; the choice of which one is for you should be based on cabinet size, output requirements, driver preference, and personal cosmetic appeal. Although Dayton Audio kits can be assembled by a beginner in one or two hours, the speaker systems' acoustical performance reveals their superb technical pedigree.

Since these speakers are in kit form, you will realize substantial savings by building them yourself. All woodworking has been done; assembly consists of securing drivers and ports, attaching damping materials, and wiring the crossovers and drivers. The process does not require expensive tools or measurement equipment—a general knowledge of electronics is helpful but not required. Crossover networks are completely pre-assembled and ready to connect to the drivers and input terminals using the supplied wires and push-on terminals. No soldering required!

Dayton Audio offers a completely new level of quality previously unavailable in commercially available loudspeaker kits. All of the critical aspects of high-end loudspeaker design and manufacturing have finally been combined into the ultimate DIY kit-building experience. You can own a finished speaker system rivaling those found at exotic high-end salons, and best of all you'll be able to say "I built it myself!"

Dayton Audio RS621BK Gloss Black Speaker Kit Pair
Dayton Audio RS621BK Gloss Black Speaker Kit Pair is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality for the MoneyThe speakers are everything Parts Express claims. They image well, sound very natural, play realistic bass to about 70hz and are flat all the way to the high end. I would like them to have more "presence" in the mid at about 2-4Khz. The louder they are played the more this region comes to life. I am using them with a Rotel RA 12 integrated amp which only has bass and treble at the usual 100Hz and 10Khz and no loudness control. Current home theater receivers will have no problem boosting this range a little. This is true whether I play vinyl on anold Pioneer PL-510 with current Grado Blue cartridge or my old Sony ES CD player using its built in DAC. Next I will try using the Rotels built in current DAC, and I have a Cal Audio Labs DC1 CD player to try. Finally, they are not the most sensitive speakers, they will not play loud with 20 watts per channel. They do play VERY clean and loud at 60 watts! I am using them with a dedicated sub amp crossed at about 80hz. They are impressive whether playing classical, pop or hard rock/metal. You can not beat them for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Speakers!I bought two sets of these speakers back in January for my home theater. This was my first speaker build so I was a little hesitant at first not knowing what I was getting into, but after I watched the video on building them it was a breeze. The first speaker took about an hour (I was very cautious), after that it was about 20-30 each. I've got a 7.1 system and I use these speakers for my surrounds, they sound really great. I'm no audiophile but I know what good music and movies sound like. The cabinet is solid and mine were spotless when they arrived.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value, Easy AssemblyWith the crossovers pre-built, this package only took a few hours to assemble. The speakers sound better and better as they break in. Don't be alarmed if they're a little meek sounding at first, they fill out. They're not quite as deep or full as I had thought they would be, and they suck down the wattage like there's no tomorrow. That's the sacrifice with sealed speakers. They have decent enough imaging. (I can usually trick guests into thinking the center channel is on :)The 12" 500W Dayton MKIII Titanic Sub Kit is a good match and fills in any bass complaints I would have had about these speakers running solo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for beginners!I recently started upgrading my home theater system, and needed better speakers to match up with my Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver. (My old speakers were cheap 5.1 PC Speakers). I bought one of these kits to get into the speaker building world as I figured it would be a fairly simple introduction. The first kit did not have pre-assembled crossovers and that resulted in me having an issue with a solder connection that was driving me crazy. Still, I got it figured out and the results were amazing. The sounds I'm now hearing from my movies and music are shocking as I never heard them before. GREAT speakers for a GREAT price. After buying the front two, I went and bought another kit for the rears. This time, the kit came with preassembled crossovers and that made a HUGE difference in ease. The only issues that still remained were that the cabinets themselves are a bit small so it's tough to maneuver in there. Also, the tweeter/woofer connection wires are barely long enough to reach, so it's difficult to attach them to the crossovers. I just decided to solder my own wire to the crossover connections and then solder them to the drivers. That made it nice and easy.If you're looking for new speakers and are just getting into the hobby, this is the purchase for you

How can these be mounted to a wall for surround speakers?

Asked by: Carwash
You will have to use a universal type mount that will support the weight of the speaker and will likely need to be drilled into the cabinet. Unfortunately we don't have any wall mounts available that will support the weight of these.

These speakers are sealed, right? Also, do these speakers have enough bass to be used without a subwoofer?

Asked by: somz
Yes these are sealed. They have a decent amount of bottom end, but whether they have enough for your application is entirely up to you. For most music applications they should do fine.

What is the assembled weight of each speaker (not packed weight)?  What is the approximate crossover frequency?  What are the dB limits on the freq. resp. spec provided (e.g. +/- 3dB)?

Asked by: Doctor Lew
Each assembled enclosure will weigh roughly 15-17 lbs. Based on the frequency response in the manual, the overall response tolerance appears to be about +/- 4dB. The crossover point is 2,300 Hz. You can see these details
