Dayton Audio RS180S-8 7" Reference Shielded Woofer 8 Ohm
Dayton Audio RS180S-8 7" Reference Shielded Woofer 8 Ohm is rated 4.6061 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 6+ Years Later - Still AmazingWhen I chose the MTM project to build, I wanted power, precision and durability in a package I could afford. Well, I got it. Critical listening sessions, home theater, PC gaming, loud parties... these drivers have delivered on all fronts, every day, often for 5+ hours a day. The heart of the system is, I feel still the crossover. However, without such excellent drivers the project would not have been nearly as satisfactory. This is a driver that's gotten the job done for me for years, at a very reasonable cost. I'm not sure what more one could ask for. At this size, in the do-all woofer category this is the high water mark.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound and value and attractive speakerThis is a substantial speaker that sounds excellent, at a great value. What more could you want in a mid-woofer of this size? I have used them for the past 5 years in an MTM design and couldn't be more pleased. I'm using 2 of them per speaker in a ported and braced 1 cu. ft. enclosure with a 4th order crossover network and in conjunction with the RS-28F tweeter. Great low frequency response (especially for a 7" driver) and clear, articulate and non-colored midrange. Had to recently replace one because of my error (accidentally sent massive amounts of distortion through them, on two occasions, when I turned off my tube pre-amp/DAC before turning off the DIY amp. Duh! As a testament to the durability of these speakers, only one of the 4 woofers and neither of the RS28F tweeters blew out). I was pleased to see that the replacement looked and sounded exactly the same as the original purchased so long ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional valueLow distortion, clean sound, excellent build quality, bucking magnet, easy T-S params to deal with. The result in a correctly designed enclosure is far better than what you can expect for the money. Or anyway, what you could have expected before this driver came out. The 8" is great, too. Total steal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid speaker.4 years and still sounding strong as a satellite replacement in some Cerwin Vega SAT6's. They actually seem to take a little more power than rated, high pass crossover 6db 120Hz; powered by Adcom GFA-555. Very happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice build and sound quality for the moneyMounted in a .3 cubic foot sealed enclosure. Audible bass(I have no way to measure dbs)to 50hz. Sounds great! Awesome midrange. Have not used them with a sub. I would like to with a low pass of 75 to 80 hz. I imagine they would sound even better (cleaner).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Xmax - detailGreat looking mid/woofer with lots of displacement. Had to upgrade my factory Infinity passive radiators to accomodate their long throw. Low on midrange detail, maybe needs two to keep SPL up with the tweeter.

Dayton Audio RS180S-8 7" Reference Shielded Woofer 8 Ohm

I'm looking for a 7" mid woof for a Mission 700  two way from the '80s. The Mission's are 6ohm but all the 7" 6ohm options are too expensive.  Would a 8 work ok as a replacement or would the internal c/o blow it or my 50 watt amp?

Asked by: mission Impossible
Edit to above question:I want to know if I can replace the 7" 6ohm speaker with a 7" 8ohm speaker.

Hi Apart from the RS722 speakers, are there any two way projects which could use this woofer paired with the Dayton DC28 or Dayton RS28 tweeter? And would the Dayton XO2W-2K crossover be OK? My amp can't cope with4 ohms. Thank you Geoff

how would these sound 2 in each car door crossed at 80 hz ?

hello what would the sealed box size be on 2 of these in a sealed encloser?i would have these paired with a dayton rs28f silk tweeter, these would be low passed around 80 hz and somewhere around 16k hz.thanks Brian
Asked by: baj1969
They would sound fine. You could prob cross them lower if you are using a 3rd order or preferably 4th order crossover. If you are using it in an infinite baffle application you should use a steep slope on a speaker with a low qts to protect it from over excursion in the sub bass frequencies.
