Dayton Audio RS1202K 1000 Watt Dual 12" Subwoofer Kit

Is this wiring diagram correct?

This wiring diagram is from the user manual. If it's correct, then the two speakers will move out of phase (180 degrees# and their movement will cancel each other. I just want to make sure this is correct. I thought the two speakers should be wired crossed over #+ to - and - to +) in order to move in one direction.
Asked by: Bash300
The diagram is correct. The drivers would have to be wired out of phase with each other in order for them to move in opposite directions to cancel each other. With both cones moving inward and outward at the same time the enclosure is still pressurized.

Can this kit be ordered with an unfinished cabinet exterior? This sure would look great in piano white.

Asked by: bb53chevpro
Unfortunately no, this is only available as a finished cabinet.

Ok, I have carpet - so which spike kit would be the most compatible and interchangeable with the rubber feet?

Asked by: Semper Fi to HiFi
The spikes that we offer are all M6 thread. The spikes I generally use are one of the large brass cone type, the color is personal preference.http://www.parts-express.com/term/dss4?srch=dss4

Asked by: Audio Nut 55
The woofers and amplifier have gaskets included on them.

Would a spike kit enhance the performance? If so, which one is recommended?

I built this dual sub kit over a year ago using two 4-ohm drivers in series to make an easier load on the amp. Although I lose 3db max headroom, I don't notice it and have been quite satisfied with the results.
Asked by: Semper Fi to HiFi
This is difficult to answer. On a hardwood floor I doubt there will be a noticeable difference, I generally use spikes for carpeted floors so the subwoofer isn't "floating" on the carpet fibers. I cannot say this actually makes an audible difference, I personally do it for peace of mind.

Are there online instructions?

Before deciding whether or not I want to go the trouble of putting this together, I would like to see the step by step instructions. Can they be found online?
Asked by: KidHorn
The instruction manual for this is located in the right hand column next to the item description. It is under the heading Manuals/resources

Im thinking of buying this kit mainly for my home theater but the parametric EQ intimidates me, I dont know nothing about equalizer.

Do i need tool/s before making adjustments. Thanks
Asked by: rneclps
There are a number of ways to adjust this EQ. some will do it by ear, but a test tone source like a CD or DVD can be helpful as well as a way to measure. RTAs are popular for this, but some have been able to use SPL meters as well.

How Big Is The Output?

Will it be as loud as two C1500K? 300-770
Asked by: aquser
After modeling both designs, the RS1200K is technically 1.2 dB louder with 1000 watts when compared to two of the C1500K kits with 250 watts each. These are only modeled responses and room placement will be the determining factor. The RS1200K will likely play lower at higher volume levels due to the longer woofer excursion although a pair of the C1500K kits will provide better room placement options and get rid of room nodes easier.

Is this sub accurate enough to be used for music recording?

Asked by: Herb
Yes, this unit has a very flat response right out of the box, and with the parametric EQ, you can adjust it to be as flat as possible in your specific room, or make adjustments according to the requirements of your project. The internal EQ can also be bypassed, allowing the use of outboard components to EQ the unit.

Does this sub have a performance curve? Does it perform better then the T1503k 15" sub? Do you have plan to build it and add it as a project example

Asked by: Gabe
A performance curve is listed on the second page of the manual which is accessible via this link: http://www.parts-express.com/pdf/300-766m.pdf.Better performance is subjective and will vary with each users personal opinion and room placement. There are currently no plans to include this subwoofer within the Project Showcase.

how does this actually work? dont the subs actually cancel each other out?

Asked by: dxr6262
The opposite firing drivers are wired in phase so that they combine in acoustic output. They move in opposite motion to cancel out cabinet vibration.
