Dayton Audio PMPC-2.2 2.2uF 250V Precision Audio Capacitor

In the process of re-wiring some old vintage Sony speakers, I discovered that I had a non-functioning 2.2 uF capacitor. It's an old bi-polar electrolytic ELNA. Max voltage is listed as 50V. My question is, does the voltage tolerance make a difference?

No, the voltage only represents the power handling of the cap itself. You can replace a 50v cap with anything rated for 50v or higher as long as the value matches the original.

The white dot would indicate negative or possitive side?

this is my first dayton cap so I am used toa - or + marking not a white dot...thanks...

All Dayton caps are non polarized so the direction does not matter.
