Product Details

Dayton Audio PA465S-8 18" Pro Subwoofer 4" VC 8 Ohm

With over two decades of high-performance loudspeaker development experience behind them, Dayton Audio PA series subwoofers deliver powerful, dependable bass performance with all of the features and quality of pricey Italian-made pro subwoofers, but at a price that’s a whole lot easier on your budget.

Klippel Optimized Motor Structure

The Dayton Audio PA Series subwoofers feature optimized motor structures that provide over 11 mm of Klippel-verified Xmax (10 mm coil overhang) with excellent symmetry and linearity, preventing distortion where it often begins – in the motor itself. Cleaner bass means higher impact, and better musical detail. The enormous high-grade ceramic magnet is economical yet highly efficient and stable, providing parameters that are a drop-in replacement for most existing pro audio subwoofer enclosures, but a significant upgrade in performance to most OEM drivers.

Advanced Cooling and Ventilation

The key to reliable, high-output bass is to get the heat away from the voice coil windings. The PA Series subwoofers feature 4-inch voice coils that use inside-outside windings, improving heat transfer and reducing power compression. The coils are also wound on fiberglass formers, which are much more resistant to heat-related deformation. Finally, the high-strength motor structures employ extensive venting, below the spider, through the pole piece, and into the gap itself.

Rugged, Reliable Construction

The heavy-duty cones used on the PA Series subwoofers contain a blend of Kevlar and paper fibers, for strength, rigidity, and durability, and the ribbed cone structure provides the necessary stiffness to withstand punishing bass transients. The cone and voice coil assembly is supported by a rugged long-throw suspension featuring dual spiders and a treated and deep-corrugated triple-roll surround, for clean and low-distortion stroke. The cone is coated to withstand incidental exposure to liquid, and the dust cap is anchored by a heavy bead of epoxy for dependable cone integrity. It’s all held together by the finest adhesives and a tough cast-aluminum frame that’s ready to take some road abuse.

When you’re looking for a dependable, heavy-duty subwoofer driver to power your system’s low end through anything, choose the PA Series pro subwoofers from Dayton Audio! The 18” model is optimized for maximum deep bass extension in reflex-loaded enclosures. 15” model also available.

Dayton Audio PA465S-8 18" Pro Subwoofer 4" VC 8 Ohm
Dayton Audio PA465S-8 18" Pro Subwoofer 4" VC 8 Ohm is rated 4.6667 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Brainer....Don't let the Price Fool You!Massive power handling, HUGE Xmax, near perfect match (WinISD) for around a 7cu.ft. reflex box, all for under two bills? What's not to love? I replaced the stock drivers in my two Yamaha SW118IV boxes with these.(required minor box modifications to fit) and they performed so well I custom built two identical boxes and all four are loaded with these drivers. They hit way harder and go deeper than the stock drivers and while I had to add some internal bracing to stop the rattles on the stock boxes (1/2" plywood), the custom built boxes (3/4" birch plywood) are just plain solid and tight with massive bottom end and no cabinet rattles whatsoever. These subs hit hard and deliver solid clean bass all the way down to my HPF cutoff point @40hz.. They are a bit power hungry though so you need to feed them well else they just sit there and laugh at you. They will work "ok" off of less power but give them 1-2K watts per sub and they really come to life. Mine are used for live sound and crossed @100HZ and powered off of a QSC PL380 and yeeaaaahh........makes a grown man want to sit up and beg for buttermilk!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than expected! With all the subs out there that are several hundred dollars more, you wouldn't expect as much from a sub that is now less than $200, but wow what a surprise! I am amazed at how good this one sounds, even with low base (in the 20hz range) this sub puts out. I've listen to many different sound tracks from classical to rap and tested it in free air and in a 3 cu. ft. vented enclosure. The sound is clean, upper bass (@110hz) sounds tight and controlled while still being able to extend into the 20s before rolling off (f3). It is a tad bit less efficient and likes a lot of space, but when I got close to the 1000 watt range it started jumping like a rabbit in a forest fire. I am driving it with a KRELL KAV-2250 and a KRELL Showcase preamp crossed at 100Hz 12db. What sold me on this model was the 11mm Xmax.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from concert touringI have replaced all 16 of my McCauley 6258 18's with these. I could not believe how well these subs project a 38 to 90 Hz frequency band into a 37,000 sq.ft. arena.( Chest crushing bass ), very clean bass too, at 142 spl . No adhesive problems and they behave better at twice the input power. Power compression is not an issue either, I was expecting a little bit feeding them with 2 Lab Gruppen FP10000Q amps. seriously, these speakers are the real deal. They are not the typical China cones that look good on paper, but sound worse than a worn out 6x9 car speaker once it's put into the correctly calculated box. Excellent subwoofer .

box size and slot port size for 2 in same box.in home;music;700sq.ft.room.

Asked by: bobbo
I would recommend 13.6 cubic feet which would have external dimensions of 24"H x 50"W x 23"D with a slot port that measures 22.5"H x 4"W x 12"D for a tuning frequency of 32 Hz.

I am thinking of buying one of these subs to replace the blown sub in my Turbosound Milan M18B active subwoofer system. Would this sub make a good replacement, as all the specs seem to be fairly close?

Asked by: Nate01
This woofer should work very well in that enclosure.

What int. net volume enclosure and slot port volume  would get you to the 25Hz the specs say this will reach?

Asked by: MrNick105
Tuning a driver like this that low is not practical, especially for a pro sound application. About the lowest I would recommend tuning this woofer to is 32 Hz, which can be done with 6.9 total cubic feet and a slot port that measures 22.5"H x 2"W x 15"D.

Would this work well in a Yamaha SW118IVS cabinet?

Asked by: TecStiX
Using basic cabinet dimensions it looks like the internal volume of that cabinet is somewhere around 6-7 cubic feet which means this woofer will work very well as a replacement.

I am thinking of buying two of these to replace existing older Dayton 18 inch 4" VC woofers in bi-amped DJ rig for more power handling. How would (F3) calculate for one of these in a 7 ft^3 box with dual 3 inch ID ports? And how long should ports be?

Asked by: DJJohn
These will work very well in 7 cubic feet although you will need to change the port layout you have. Two 3" ports will only need to be 1" long for a tuning frequency of 35 Hz but you will almost certainly have port noise problems. I would recommend three 4" diameter ports instead that are 8" long for the same tuning frequency but will greatly reduce port noise.
