Product Details

Dayton Audio PA200-8 8" Pro Woofer Speaker

The PA200-8 8" professional audio woofer, from Dayton Audio, features high power handling by using a vented pole piece and voice coil gap. Black motor parts (including a black polyimide voice coil) help dissipate heat away from the voice coil and help to minimize power compression.

Extended, smooth frequency response and low distortion are achieved through the use of a powerful 50 ounce ceramic ferrite magnet, combined with a copper cap on the pole piece to reduce stray eddy currents and minimize voice coil inductance.

A strong, low-mass, carbon fiber-impregnated paper cone, together with an I-beam rolled-edge 1.2 mm steel frame provides the rugged durability needed to handle the rigors of touring and for stage use, while still offering the sensitivity and punchy bass that you need.

Dayton Audio's PA Series woofer packs all of these premium features into a value-priced 8" driver that is great for use as an upgrade to sound reinforcement or musical instrument speakers. The PA200-8 also excels in custom-built speakers.

Dayton Audio PA200-8 8" Pro Woofer Speaker
Dayton Audio PA200-8 8" Pro Woofer Speaker is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great woofer, made to be paired with a tweeter....I purchased this in the recent past. It was a little bit of a gamble for me, but thought I'd try it. I was using it as my main low frequency driver and it was about 85 percent there for me. Some lows I was hitting, with the power and box I had, though, were running it slightly into over excursion. However, that was my fault and I had space constraints which a 3rd order enclosure would remedy but I couldn't physically have one in my vehicle, per my specific life arrangement needs. The speaker, however, for such a small driver and its design was outstanding. I've never had such smooth and powerful sound come from a single 8" driver, and I've been around awhile. It was definitely designed to play well into upper mid-range frequencies and would pair well with a decent tweeter. As others have mentioned, getting into lower/sub woofer frequencies will require a decent sized 3rd order/ported enclosure and/or a low end crossover point/truncation factor, depending on power provided. As of such, no renegs on the speaker itself, but I (personally) did need another driver for my application. I sent the driver back in like new condition and Parts-Express credited me for the woofer. If you need the lower frequencies and want a speaker in this series/model of Dayton's line, then I'd recommend the 10" or the 12" at minimum, and potentially a 3rd order enclosure with the proper size and port frequency, etc. Nonetheless, as specifics of the application is everything, I still give the speaker 5 stars and know well its design is worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Driver. This driver has a frequency response up to 9000Hz and is extremely detailed and refined-hi fidelity indeed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CLARITYI replaced an Eminence Alpha with this driver and could not be happier. I think what makes the biggest difference is the size of the magnet, 50 oz vs 20 oz for the Eminence, both being ferrite. The bigger the magnet the better the cone control which translates into cleaner signal coming from said cone. Bass is much better defined, midrange is more open and treble is cleaner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great sound.. little powerful packageim new to speaker building.. ive had numerous car systems, and decided to take a go at building myself a set up for my house. i made two 1.1ft vented boxes tuned to 54hz out of 3/4mdf, glued screwed and sealed. with a 17inch port length. also put some morel mdt37 tweeters crossed it all over at 2000hz with a dayton off the shelf crossover.. and i have to say im impressed to say the least.. the lows rumble, and the highs are crisp and clear.. no they arent hifi.. no they arent the best thing on the market.. but at $41 each.. these speakers are a steal. they are loud clear, and hit all the right notes. next time i would like to use another pair of these, paired with an even bigger woofer or subwoofer in a 3-way cab.. but for now.. these will definately do the job

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome soundI originally purchased the Dayton PA200 as a replacement midrange speaker for a giant JBL unit. The sound results were so good, that another PA200 was order for the other speaker pair. I could hear the difference that this produced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great replacement for SWR 8x8 HenryI was looking for a good replacement for the Celestion 8" drivers in my SWR 8x8. Fender told me they don't have replacements any longer.....Eminence couldn't help....and I couldn't find any used......so I decided to bite the bullet and replace all the drivers with 8 ohm speakers and wire it differently (still to a 4 ohm load). A user on TB recommended trying the Dayton driver......so for the price I figured I would....the specs look good too. I have to say these drivers turned this cab into a tonal monster. It has a ton of low end now (much more than the stock drivers)......plus it handles a ton more power. I run my Hartke LH1000 through it bridged and it doesn't even break a sweat.I'd also like to mention that one of the 8 I ordered got damaged in shipping. Part Express was AWESOME with their customer service. I explained the situation and told the woman on the phone I needed the cabinet for gigs in a few days......she got the replacement on my doorstep in 2 days! AWESOME customer service. If anyone out there is looking to replace their 8" drivers in a SWR Henry......do this! You will love it!

What would be "ideal" dimensions and port size/length for a 4x8 bass guitar cabinet? Also, what would be the realistic freq. response and dB levels? Thanks!

Asked by: Anonymous
I would recommend external dimensions of 26"H x 22"W x 12"D with two 4" diameter ports that are 6" long for a tuning frequency of 48 Hz. This will handle 200 watts down to 40 Hz before reaching excursion and the model shows output in excess of 120 dB with the same power.

How would two of these work in a small, vented, line array style cabinet along with a PT2C-8 planar tweeter? I want to build a small line array setup for a permanent install in a medium room. I have subwoofers to cover 80hz and below.

Asked by: RobH70
Yes these will work well for an application like that.

What would be a good port diameter and length for one speaker in the 1.1 cu. in. cabinet?

Asked by: davidjohn
I would recommend a 2.5" diameter, 1.5" long port for a tuning frequency of 55 Hz.

Say Mattp? Could you give me an idea of how these would sound mounted in the rear deck of a car? Assuming good rigid mounting and isolation from a trunk, can you guesstimate how low these would reach?

Asked by: lpbman
These will reach into the upper 40's if used IB like that. They will not like more than about 20 watts before they have excursion problems below 40 Hz.
