This unit was designed with the goal of the producing the highest possible output from a driver its size. Great for use in small stage monitors, as a midrange in multi-way systems, or even as a hi-fi midbass. Construction includes a steel frame, paper cone, treated cloth surround, vented pole piece and high-power-handling 1-1/2" aluminum voice coil.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dayton Audio MidsI bought these purely off the reviews and I am glad that I did. I ordered 5 mids, 4 to use, 1 for a on hand replacement. They have a warm sound without too much peaking in the higher frequencies like many mids do. They get quite loud on relatively low power which is great. But I rated features low because you cant tell where the 20 dollar price tag comes from. The surround, cone, and dust cap are all paper or some paper combo that looks and feels cheap. Don't get me wrong, they are amazing for the price. The are crisp and clear at ALL listening levels, low or extremely loud. I have been blasting the 4 mids all together for a while now and show no signs of slowing down. Purchase this if you are even remotely thinking about it. It wont disappoint, especially for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Guitar Speaker Ever!!!!!!what do guitarists of the electric rip snok variaty want?...a bull nosed vertion of a square wave...forget the celestion green backs...these litte bastards'll OooooozzzzeitZero X-max = gobs of progressively bass heavy,sweet,natual compression..go sealed box 1/3rd Cu.ft per pair,accoustistuffed, line array stack...scoop the eq. and prepare to be sonicly molested.

Dayton Audio PA165-8 6" PA Driver Speaker

Hoping to build a smaller line array with 2 of these. I'd like to use a slot/shelf type port at the bottom to get some decent base, when I run w/out subs. What size box, and port, should I use?

I would recommend a volume of 1.1 cubic feet total, with a 3" diameter port that is 1" long for a tuning frequency of 70 Hz.

1.Can I use two of these wired in parallel in my each of my car doors? This way the amp sees the 4 ohm's that it needs instead of the 8 ohms using an individual driver. 2. Also would the door work as a suitable enclosure?

Yes this is absolutely possible. These will not play much below about 80-100 Hz due to excursion so the car door should be perfectly adequate.

Would like to mount (8) Dayton PA165-8 6" vertically with mounting flanges touching to make a tall array cabinet for heavy electric guitar. Lowest note would be C+ 69hZ. Should I go sealed or ported and what cu. in., port size/length. Thanks a bunch!

I would recommend ported, at 2.1 cubic feet total for all 8 and two 3" diameter ports that are 3/4" long for a tuning frequency of 68 Hz.

What is the xmax?

The Xmax on this driver is called an "even-hung" type, whereas using the standard overhang formula, the result is zero (as our spec sheet states). Midrange drivers like this do not require loads of Xmax and this driver will move 1-2mm each direction before BL loss is a factor.

According to our modeling program .25 cubic feet is ideal but is only good down to about 130 Hz.
