Dayton Audio ND16FA-6 5/8" Neodymium Dome Tweeter

Don't let the low price fool you! This versatile tweeter is a huge step above the average "budget" tweeter. Conceived with line array thoughts in mind, it is finally possible to achieve the inter-driver spacing needed to minimize comb filtering out to nearly 20 kHz. But their uses don't stop at line arrays-- they have the sensitivity, smoothness, and power handling to individually do a two-way with most small woofers. Give them a try for your next budget or micro speaker-- you will be pleasantly surprised!

Dayton Audio ND16FA-6 5/8" Neodymium Dome Tweeter
Dayton Audio ND16FA-6 5/8" Neodymium Dome Tweeter is rated 4.6765 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from They Sound Great!I bought these to suppliment two 3.5" BMR full range speakers. I wasn't happy with the BMRs in the higher end. I crossed them over around 4.3Khz and they sound really nice and clear. I had to add an Lpad to quiet them down about 5db but I'm very happy with the setup now. The small size of these teeters helped them fit very well into the enclosure that I didn't initially plan on having tweeters in. Make sure you drill the holes exactly 1.25 inches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! These are perfect!!! They are extremely clear and bright, You will probably have to pad them down a little. That's not a disadvantage though.I love the size. They also look great. I wish the mounting wasnt so critical, but it works. You get about 1/32 of play- miss and your tweeter will fall through the hole. 1 1/4" hole, no bigger no smaller!Rockin tweets at low and high volume. Can't beat these! Parts express is the best place to buy home speakers... I don't know who they know to get these things at these prices, but it's just awesome that we have them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Worth The UpgradeI use this to replace blown or cheap tweeters in mid to low quality speakers as a hobby. A dome Tweeter sounds so much more pleasing than a pizeo or paper tweeter to me and seems to be much easier on my ears. This inexspensive tweeter gets me into better class of sound than what is provided on most speakers I find at second hand stores.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding sound in a small tweeterI love silk dome tweeters. They have a very smooth sound that, for my tastes, is easy on the ears. After experimenting with some cheaper alternatives for little project, I stuck these in just to hear them. I was impressed. The sound seemed very linear even though the Fs was similar to the others and balanced nicely with the Aura NS6-255-8A 6" Paper Cone Woofer without a L-pad. They are perfect for small scale MT or MTM projects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Little TweeterThis little tweeter is amazing. It has greater definition that the tweeters that are in my Energy Connoisseur C-2 speaker. Dayton neo tweeters are the best value out there today. Don’t let the low price fool you. Within design parameters they can go toe to toe with Seas and Vifa.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Making it Sound Better...My customer walks in with a Panasonic RX-5025, Boombox, and says make it sound better becasue he loves this thing. Its his money, so I replace the midbasses with some recycled Bose 901 drivers and add these 5/8" tweets with a Highpass filter and MAN!!! Best sounding Boombox I ever heard. We were blown away.MAS

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy add-on Super TweetI had some small cheap JVC speakers that came with a radio/CD player and had only a 'full-range' 3" driver, port loaded. Of course, full range misses either end of the audio spectrum, so I simply too a 1 1/4" spade drill bit to the JVCs and installed these tweets with a simple Xover. Nice to hear the rest of the music again...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Consider before ribbons and planars-SERIOUSLYThis dome has articulation on par with the Maggie ribbon. It has an MMS of about 125mg. Considering the proximity of the magnet structure, this thing is FAST. Ribbon fast, not dome fast. The silk rings very little. The dispersion is tremendous. Remove the stupid "horn" & it's over 180* at 21,000hz although the 1.25" horn is really enough as it's 180* is still 11,000hz. I think it is the articulation, the stunning transients and the lack of ringing that makes this on par with anything. It's ONLY failing is of course output of which is limited. Think about arrays.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice sounding tweeterI'm using these in my car in addition to my Seas tweeters. Currently I'm running a front-stage only 3 way system, 7" midbass in the door, 4" Peerless and 1.25" Seas tweeter in the kickpanels. I'm using these tweeters at dash level to help out the higher frequency response. I crossed them over at 12db @12K and what a difference they make, i'm also using an L-pad. Listening to Steely Dan, each instrument sounds more alive than before installing these little guys. Have great clarity and you can't beat the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what the audio doctor ordered - HONESTLY!!!!I built my very first full range speakers using some NOS Radio Shack 40-1354 drivers in a 0.70 cubic ft bass reflex box and the upper end just didn't have quite the "sparkle" I liekd and I read in some Internet audio forums that this little (about the size of a quarter) tweeter could add some help and let me tell you it made my system go from being a 7 out of 10 to a BIG 10!!! I used a 2 uF capacitor in series as a high filter crossover and it worked great. It really has some good overall dispersion and was easy to integrate into my design because it was so small. I'm thinking of adding an L-pad to get just the right level of sound because it is a little higher efficiency than my RS drivers but not by much. I will be buying this tweeter again when I build my Pioneer B20FU full range speakers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small but mighty tweet; good for smaller roomI am building bass reflex full range speakers using the Radio Shack 40-1354 driver and needed just a small inexpensive tweeter to give the speakers a little more "sparkle" on the high end and these tweets were recommended on some DIY speaker forums and their efficiency matched well with the Radio Shack driver. I hooked them up with a 2 uF capacitor for a high pass filter and let me tell you it made my full range speakers go from acceptable to highly acceptable. It adds just enough and maybe a little too much high end. I'm thinking about get some L pads to hook up to the tweets so that I can adjust their volume. A very good buy and will probably get again when I build my Pioneer B20FU full range speakers in some Large Advent cabinets that I have laying around.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from These fit in the Minimus 7 tweeter plateThese are the smaller press fit tweets and they are not quite as smooth and extended as the slightly larger Daytons. Nonetheless they are nice bargains. They happen to fit the tweeter plate of the Minimus 7 with a little help from some sticky stuff (I used graphite golf club epoxy from Golfsmith.) If you have an old pair of M7's drop in the Tang Band 4" driver and this tweeter and try a crossover around 5k-6k for a fun project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from will never buy high end tweets againI've used hellava expensive tweeters from Dynaudio MD130 and the Scanspeak 9700 for car audio. The 10 degrees of separation between a very good tweeter and great tweeter is almost nil in the car environment for day-to-day use. I have these Dayton tweets paired up with the Seas TBFG (which is another value winner) and I have imaging like never before. The Seas are in the map pockets, the Daytons are in mounted on my rear view mirror reflecting off the windshield. Kinda like a poormans hack of a Reusaudio system. Seas mag cones take on the midrange. My car cannot sound better for 10 times the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Close to morel sound in a nice little package. They are very tiny. Probably the size of a quarter. Very easy to integrate.I am using these tweeters as ambient tweeters in my vehicle to raise my sound stage up higher. I have them high passed @ 9 kHz @ 12 slope on a passive crossover. What a difference it made. Very nice air and shimmer. Not as sparkly as I like, but it does well. Reminds me of some older morel tweeters I had. I only wish I can hear them playing lower, but they are stuck at this setting since I am using a passive crossover. I am very happy with these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great valueI used two ND16FAs to replace the factory tweeters in my Cadillac. They are much smoother and less fatiguing than the originals, exactly what I had hoped for since Im in the car for hours every day. I have several other Dayton drivers, mostly used in sealed sub boxes, all of which I would rate 5 stars! Dayton has yet to disappoint me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Far better than BMW's Harmon Kardon!I used these tweeters along with Dayton RS150-4 drivers and Tang Band W2-803SM drivers to upgrade my factory HK stereo in my BMW 330 cic. It took a little engineering to get everything to fit(had to pry out the oem tweets and carefully drill an 1 1/4 hole in the same location), but WOW!!! There is no comparison to the HK system. I don't think I had ever realized the The Eagle's "Witchy Woman" had RAVEN hair!!! Buy these! You will not be dissapointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I didn't get the high rating when I heard itWhile interesting to make a tweeter the size of a quarter, it doesn't project a deep soundfield and isn't critically transparent as previously reviewed. This tweeter works okay on a 2nd order crossover, pitched up very high. Otherwise, its lower sounds are a tad louder than its higher sounds. That's because its horn loaded, and that does make a nice dispersion control feature for harmony with larger drivers. The word "lackluster" comes to mind, despite its excellent measurements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent value for the priceI also paired this tweeter with a 8" Pioneer fullrange speaker, in a B/R design front ported. A 2uF Capacitor was added to the tweeter and it really opens up and complements the full range driver. very easy to install excellent value. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic little tweeterMated this tweeter to the Hi-Vi A3N 3" buyout and they make for a nice compact speaker. Surprised at just how good these tweeters are, especially for the money. Much better than your average cheap-o mylar domes. Do yourself a favor and pick up a 32mm forstner bit and install will be a breeze. I tried an 1-1/4" hole saw and it wasn't quite right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from get them!I paired this tweeter to my 8" Pioneer fullrange speaker, until this tweeter with 2uF of Capacitor was added the speaker sounded dull (like a veil of curtain), now the speaker sings and clear. Amazed at the quality. Just need 1 1/4" opening and fits snug. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent with 8" Pioneer fullrangeUnique in that size has to be near perfect (I use Router with circle jig) and sounds excellent. I build a DIY speaker with 8" Pioneer fullrange, and added this tweeter and sounds fabulous. Before adding the tweeter sound was somewhat veiled. Now excllent, sounds good. Added 2uF cap. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from small and easy to work withI've used several of these budget neo tweeters and they all are great for background sound applications. I've used them in several coffee shop and bar settings without failure or too much effort to integrate. Smooth response off axis and good power handling.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't be beat for the pricesmooth and pleasant sounding, used in a 3 way active system, Sony reciever amp, no eq, from 3.5k up, 24d/octave. Prefered this over the aura NT tweeter. No measurment set up yet so no objective analasys, but it's clean enough to have that certain "something" on cymbal work thats makes me smile when listening :) Thinking of using them in a LA next.

Crossover

Im planning to pair this tweeter with the ND91-8 fullrange woofer to get som better treble. How can I easiest find a suitable crossover software to get the scheme and components? I hope i don't need get some measurement software and hardware.
Asked by: klas
You will definately need a crossover, but no measurement software unless you intend to build your own.A good 2-way at around 3500hz will do just fine. One other thing you will need will be a way to balance the output of the tweet and the woof. An l-pad will allow you to get it just right. The tweet is a lot hotter.Hope this helps.

Linaeum Pro-LX550 Tweeter Replacement ?

I blew a Linaeum tweeter in a Pro LX-550. The specs look close enough to what I remember from a few years ago, I think they were 3000-25K, 6 ohm, box is 75 watts, x'd over, this should be ok but no 360° dispersion. Fit is a problem, 50mm diameter is pushing it. Any better one ? I search, I find no recommendations. I can listen to the linaeums for hours without getting my ears pierced, too bad they went out of biz.
Asked by: poundasound
The Radio Schumck version was reputed to be mylar while RCA version wos supposed tp be silk dome. Specs are close, they're priced reasonably enough, give it a try. It's not much risk even if PE wasn't as customer friendly. Too bad, a boxed set just went as new for about 120 on ebay or one of those.

Does it fit Dayton Audio B652 ?

I'm looking to change my Dayton Audio B652 tweeters. Do they fit them? Does changing to this tweeter have significant difference? Thanks!
Asked by: nikklaus
Well, they're both 5/8" and LOOK very similar, but as I have never had either in my hands I can't give you a definitive answer. The question is why would you want to? Thr B652 goes up to 20K while this goes to 27K. Hearing snobs aside, there is very little musical information above 20k and if you're over 25 you can't discern it anyway. What I would suggest is you get a couple and CAREFULLY try them. If they aren't as easy to switch as they look, keep them and build something a little more upscale performance-wise.As to whether or not the change will result in a significant difference, only your eaes can answer that. The extra 7K range is mostly useless even if you could hear that well. You might appreciate the difference a soft dome makes. It's an inexpensive change, so give it a try and let us know.Hope this helps.

Can these tweeters be used without a crossover?

If these tweeters need a crossover or high pass filter, what are some recommendations? Thanks!
Asked by: Skiller
The minimum reccommended crossover for all tweeters (unless otherwise specified) is a 2nd order, ie a series capacitor and a parallel inductor. For this part, due to it's 6-ohm impedance, you will probably need to use some software and play with the parameters until you obtain characteristics you like. Parts express carries some software but I would probably go hunt for some web-based software first.

How does this mount

I guess i am used to flanged drivers. How does this mount?
Asked by: pizzachef
If you cut the hole in the baffle to exactly the right size, you can then mount this tweet using a rubber mallet of exactly the right size. I'm pretty sure that's how it's done with this one.

actual dementions?

I am concerned about apparent inaccuracies listed of this tweeters dimensions. The dimensions given in the "specifications sheet" shows the outside diameter to be merely 32.5mm or 1.2795" that is 9mm deep but, a close examination of the photograph provided by PE indicates a narrow lip extending beyond the 32.5mm outside dimension. What are the measurements of this obvious lip?
Asked by: tinkerToy
My caliper is reading 32.5mm for the outside diameter.
