Dayton Audio MTM-1.0CH 1.0 cu. ft. MTM Speaker Cabinet Cherry

If you want to create a loudspeaker without investing the time and money building one from scratch, these cabinets are the answer. Dayton Audio pre-made enclosures eliminate the time-consuming and messy steps of cutting wood, assembling the panels and braces, gluing veneer, and finishing. Using Dayton Audio speaker cabinets will guarantee superior results every time. 3/4" MDF side and back panel construction is reinforced by a 3/4" MDF "shelf" brace running vertically up the sides and across the top and bottom. The entire cabinet, including the rear, is covered with a very rich, genuine cherry wood veneer with a semi-gloss finish. The baffle is 1" MDF with a black satin finish and rabbeted construction. It offers the flexibility of the B-REX replacement system and comes pre-finished without any driver cutouts. The grill is secured to the baffle by neo magnets in line with the machine screws that fasten the baffle to the enclosure. Two 1/4" holes on the back simplify installation of Dayton Audio knock-in binding posts. The cabinet is extremely rigid and solid, with minimized panel resonance. Complete with baffles, hardware, and grills. Add crossover parts, port tubes, damping materials, binding posts, and your drivers to create a complete system rivaling the appearance of the most lavishly presented audiophile speakers.

Dimensions: 22" H x 9" W x 13.5" D.

Note: Cabinet dimensions do not include grill

One of the most innovative features is the exclusive Baffle Replacement and EXchange (B-REX) system, which allows the front baffle to be easily removed for prototyping and construction. The satin black finish baffle has 4 pre-drilled holes for machine screws that line up with matching threaded inserts, to secure the baffle to the cabinet. The baffle can be installed or removed an infinite number of times. This is great for initial driver cutouts, allowing the work to take place on a piece of flat stock, rather than on a finished cabinet.

Thanks to the B-REX system, if you are uncertain whether your speakers are complete, the machine screws by themselves can be used to hold the baffle in place. Once you are ready to finalize the design, they then act as clamps too hold the baffle in place while your glue is setting. Blank baffles are available separately, allowing further possibilities in terms of using a single cabinet for multiple pairs of drivers. As you can see, the versatility offered by the B-REX system is unmatched in any other pre-finished cabinet!

Dayton Audio MTM-1.0CH 1.0 cu. ft. MTM Speaker Cabinet Cherry
Dayton Audio MTM-1.0CH 1.0 cu. ft. MTM Speaker Cabinet Cherry is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from No better speaker cabinet for the priceThe quality and look of this cabinet, especially in cherry, is simply astounding. I'm a woodworker - I build wooden kayaks in mahogany marine plywood for a hobby, so I know at least a little bit about wooden structures. These cabinets are the real-deal. Better than anything but an expert craftsman can duplicate, and I think, offered at a pretty fair price, If you don't have the talent and time needed to produce this level of quality craftsmanship then by all means purchase this cabinet! I've bought a pair, and am about to buy another...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eye Catching CabinetsThe pair of cabinets I purchased are certainly great looking! Beautiful cherrywood/satin finish with no blemishes of any kind. No issues with internal bracing, solidly installed, no gaps etc.. The baffle was just as nice, no issues and a beautiful satin black. Very Pleased with these cabinets, a great value and look great in my living room

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Some things need to be fixedThe precut binding post holes do not match up with the binding post plates PE sells. Concurrently, they are far too close together to begin with. Also, please note, the brace mentioned in the description, runs the height of the cabinet, and is mounted in the center. It has two large (estimated 6" holes) cut in it for an MTM layout. However, the airflow maybe be resttricted by this brace, even in an MTM design. Just something to be aware of.Finally, only one or two types of binding posts that PE sells will mount through this cabinet. Be sure you order the posts that are at least 1.5" long or you're in for a surprise. The premium or WBT posts won't make it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An underated bargain! At $119 a speaker enclosure, I do not know how Parts Express does it!!!!! The precision build quality of this product could be 3 times more expensive elsewhere and still be a good value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great speaker cabnet at a great priceI just finnished building a great surround sound system and I did it using these cabinets.I started by cutting three holes in each cabinet to hold one 1-1/8 in. tweeter and two 7-in. woofers.Next I ran 2 sets of wires into it(for by-amping the speakers), applyed accustic deading material to the inside and stuffed each box with poly-fill.I then mounted the speakers, hooked them up and they sounded great. And one of the reason for that great sound was because of these cabinets.Their easy to work on, have have prenty of room inside(1-cub.ft.) and are built solid as a rock.the walls have no give or "flex" as its called and look great.thank you all for helping me build the speakers I've been dreaming about for a long time.

Dayton Audio MTM-1.0CH 1.0 cu. ft. MTM Speaker Cabinet Cherry

Can I use this for the Invictus by Kurt Campbell in lieu of his sealed stand mount monitor?

Asked by: edna
The internal volume is about perfect but the baffle is about a 1/2" wider which can cause slight changes in the response. This may not be a huge problem however since the edges are rounded over. I would shoot Curt and email and ask his advice.

Is this cabinet large enough to mount 8" woofers? It says that it is nine inches wide but you have to account for the width of the 3/4 mdf. .

The woofers I am looking at have an 8 1/2 overall diameter and a 7 1/4 cutout. I want to mount 2 woofers and then use a small dome mid and tweeter in the center and use this as a center speaker.
Asked by: nice
The front baffle is 9" wide with just a hair of roundover which means the lips of your driver are going to be very close to the edge. If you intend to route them in and flush mount them, you may be cutting it very, very close. As far as the 3/4 inch boards, that leaves you with 7.5" between the outside boards and your cutout is 7.25 so again you are very close. It wouldn't scare me in the least to cut them out for the speakers you have, but I have a circle jig for my router and years of experience. If you are the same or at least confident with the tools, you shouldn't have any problems.

Where is the internal bracing?

This'construction is reinforced by a 3/4" MDF "shelf" brace running vertically up the sides and across the top and bottom'Does not seem to match the review'the brace mentioned in the description, runs the height of the cabinet, and is mounted in the center'

I've attached a photo of the inside of one of these cabinets. Please pardon the cell phone quality of the picture, it should be clear enough to provide a representation of exactly how the cabinet is constructed.
