Product Details

Dayton Audio ME625W 6-1/2" Micro-Edge 2-Way In-Wall Speaker Pair

Dayton Audio’s Micro-Edge™ speakers were created to combine the high-quality sonic performance of a premium free-standing speaker with sleek, contemporary in-wall styling, for a thoroughly modern take on the in-wall speaker. The ME625W model features a compact design that’s easy to install virtually anywhere, even where space is limited, and is perfectly suited for use as left, right, or surround channels in a home theater application. The low-profile perforated grill with ultra-slim Micro-Edge™ frame almost disappears into the wall entirely, and is easily paintable to match its surroundings.

The robust 6-1/2" woofer features a rubber surround and a woven black Kevlar cone that provides excellent transient ‘snap’ and crisp vocal clarity along with impactful bass, and the 1" silk-dome tweeter delivers rich detail that never becomes harsh, even at high volumes. The pivoting tweeter mount lets you target the best treble performance directly at the listening position, and the three-position room integration switch lets you decrease treble output if desired, for the best balance with your room's natural acoustics.

All Dayton Audio Micro-Edge™ (ME-series) speakers are timbre-matched for a seamless and consistent home theater experience when used together. For horizontal installation (e.g. center channel), model ME525MTM is recommended.

Dayton Audio ME625W 6-1/2" Micro-Edge 2-Way In-Wall Speaker Pair
Dayton Audio ME625W 6-1/2" Micro-Edge 2-Way In-Wall Speaker Pair is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from About As Easy As It GetsJust finished install yesterday(12/4/14). After setting everything up I have to say that the sound quality is above what I was expecting. I'm changing from a 2.1(boxed) to an in-wall 5.1 using all Dayton Micro-Edge speakers & an old M&K MX80 sub. In my medium sized room(about 13'x23'x) these were able to fill the room with plenty of sound at an effortless pace. I have my high pass/low pass xover set to 80hz @ 12 & 24db/octave respectively. Everything is powered by a B&K AVR507(150Wx7). The additional headroom from the 507 I feel adds to the punch that is in place from these speakers. If I had to upgrade this unit in any way there would be two small modifications. First, the mounting hardware should be a bit more sturdy. I didn't have an issue but know others have. Second would be a new pivot for the tweeter. While they are adjustable, they are not very smooth & some were downright difficult. Will have to wait and see about long term performance & reliability but initial impressions were very good. My old monitors(about $3k/pr) are now in a dedicated 2ch room. I was surprised at just how close these Dayton's performed above 80Hz in comparison. They aren't on the same level of course but the performance overall was very surprising considering the cost difference.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really impressed with this speaker.I bought these a few weeks ago, and my initial impression of them was that they were a bit bland -- but thought I should expect that from an in-wall. So before I came here to review them, I wanted to let them break in, and listen to a range of audio before I gave a full review.Overall, I don't think I could be much happier with these speakers (Unless if I waited until now to get them on Sale! This price is *WOW* for these speakers)Seriously, once these speakers got some watt hours on them, and I got the levels sorted out in my room, I'm blown away that a in-wall speaker can sound like these guys do. These are actually my primary speakers, and have 4 set up in a LRC configuration. Having 2 speakers being used for a center the highs were a tad sharp (Referee whistles sounded like they were slicing thru your soul), but once I dropped the co to -6db and adjusted the tweeter direction they really mellowed perfectly.Note: I have my center pair at -6db, Left and right are 0db.The mids are also surprisingly punchy. I can run these without a sub for daily TV, and they don't disappoint, but for any music volume above conversation level they can get a lil muddy if you try to force a bit too much low thru them. If you have the mounting room, I think the 8" version will help if you plan on going sans sub sometimes. So, why minus 1 star? The mounting posts and feet are plastic, and a bit fragile. Just need to be careful you don't over tighten when you mount them (Hand tight is tight enough) as you can strip the threads on the grab feet if you over tighten them. If you ever need to un mount the speakers do so slowly as you can stress the posts if you unscrew too far. Really, a minor issue -- just would of liked if they were metal.Compared to some name brand speakers at 2-3x's the price I listened to before purchasing these they easily meet or exceed all of them. Unless your budget is over $200 per speaker, I don't think you'll be able to beat these. Thanks Dayton! Keep up the good work!

Dayton Audio ME625W 6-1/2" Micro-Edge 2-Way In-Wall Speaker Pair

I'm planning to use a pair of these as surround speakers. One will be mounted in a wall as intended, but the other needs to be enclosed to sit on a shelf. Anyone know what volume enclosure would be optimum? No, it can't be as large as the wall cavity. :-)

Asked by: tomb
With a speaker like this, the larger the enclosure the better. If you can manage it, I wouldn't go any smaller than about 0.75 cubic feet. You would get best results using an aperiodic type vent in the enclosure so it would act more like an infinite baffle design.

I have a strange soffett where I intend to mount these, am curious if the grab feet can grab along the short side(top/bottom), or if they only grab along the sides of the speaker.  The sides in this case are the longer side in my question.

Asked by: MesMan
The dog ears on this speaker only grab along the sides, not top and bottom.
