Dayton Audio ME520MTM 5-1/4" Micro Edge Left-Center-Right In-Wall Kevlar Speaker
Dayton Audio ME520MTM 5-1/4" Micro Edge Left-Center-Right In-Wall Kevlar Speaker is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding! This is a great speaker despite the price tag! Quite a value considering the price tag!I ordered 5 of these for a custom AV room / production studio I am building. My initial plan to use four of the five, (I had no desire/need for a center channel) is working beyond my expectations, with no plans after early listening sessions with music and movies to install the center channel speaker. The front stage is wide and seamless and vertical height is good. The speakers are installed with their long dimension in the vertical orientation and installed about 18" to each side of a 60" TV in front, roughly centered vertically with the screen. The back two speakers are mounted in the side walls about 3' behind the primary listening position.Frequency response is quite smooth and accurate. It also extends much lower than one would expect from 5.25" speakers. With the acoustic treatment I have done in the room these incredible little in-walls are going down to subwoofer frequencies. I may add a sub for movie watching but with music a sub is absolutely unnecessary. Less is best in this case; these spekaers allow me to listen to full-range material without dinkering around with phase issues that exist at crossover in a room when adding a subwooofer. Well done guys!I would say these are the easiest in-walls I have installed to date. The templates were easy to work with and accurate. The mounting "flippers" all worked the first time, with no fiddling to get them to spin, a common problem I have had with other in-walls I have worked with in the past.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clean design, great fitUsed as the center channel for a 7.1 in-wall home theater. 6 speakers are 8" 2-way Leviton Spec Grade SGI8W speakers (they are great too). The system has good timbre match and balancing using Audyssy tuning built into my Denon AVR came up with only a slight .5dB difference. We ware breaking thing in still, but watched The Matrix and Abrams new Star Trek at THX reference levels with no rattles or buzzing. Nice clear voicing from this thing.Installation went smoothly. Sturdy clamping dogs pulled up the first time. The large grill with thin profile surround looks nice, but is not as flush as some and the grill is more fragile because it is so thin, be careful when opening the box and unpacking.BTW, The speaker is mounted flush in a wall with Roxul insulation with an AT screen mounted over it. Works great.

Is this center speakers magnets shielded for in wall installation directly under a TV?

Asked by: Numpty
This speaker does not feature shielded drivers. Shielded drivers are not necessary for newer flat panel style TV's, and only are necessary for the older tube type.

I have a surface wall consisting of gypsum and oak shiplap. Will the mounting clips accommodate a surface thickness of 1.5"?

Asked by: greyleopard
Unfortunately no, the thickest material the clips will handle is 1-1/8".

I'm looking to do a very minimalist computer install with no need for music/movie reproduction.

Can I use a single speaker for both the left and right system audio out on my computer?
Asked by:
This speaker only has one input so it will only accept one channel of audio. You may want to consider a stereo speaker, something like below.|25307These are all single speaker dual channel models.

I have 4 ceiling speakers, Dayton Audio CS620EC. Can I mate these in my media room to the Dayton Audio ME520MTM 5-1/4" Micro Edge Left-Center-Right In-Wall Kevlar Speakers and have good surround sound? The room is small, 15' x 15'.

Asked by: bittenbycobra
Yes these speakers will work perfectly fine together in an application like that.

What would be a good cabinet size for a tuned enclosure also port ID and length?

Asked by: Jferg2000
Unfortunately there is no way to properly model a vented enclosure for these speakers since the driver T/S parameters are not available for modeling purposes. In wall and in ceiling speakers are designed for free air or infinite baffle use anyway, so a ported box would probably cause very peaky bass and not sound smooth.
