Dayton Audio MA1240a Multi-Zone 12 Channel Amplifier

The high-density solution to the challenges of multi-room audio

The Dayton Audio MA1240a features a Class-AB output circuit that delivers superior audiophile sound quality and stable performance. Each of your installation's zones can benefit from the MA1240a's clean audio reproduction and exceptional functionality. The MA1240a can be stacked with other audio components and includes removable ears for mounting in standard audio racks (2RU).

You have to feed the machine—and it's easy!

Two common or BUS inputs feed audio signals from standard line-level audio sources to any or all channels. Each of the twelve channels has its own dedicated input and independent level adjustment to provide further flexibility. By simply flipping a single switch, two channels can be bridged to increase the total power output for that zone. This is helpful when extra power is needed in certain areas.

All of the convenience and system status monitoring you could need

The MA1240a's manual, automatic on/off, or triggered 12V input turn-on modes facilitate easy integration into automated systems. For quick and easy troubleshooting of the system, each pair of channels or zones has a bi-color LED to indicate its operational status.

Note: See setup addendum when using in-wall volume controls. You can find this document under "Manuals and Resources" on this page.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great so farDoes what it says. I have it in a large cabinet with plenty of room above and to the side and it does not seem hot at all when running every channel. I installed it so that I see the rear of the device when I open cabinet, so that I can adjust volume, input etc.. easily. Using this auto function means I never need to use front of unit anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for whole house sound systems.Got this after running whole house on a cheap Sony regular stereo head for a long time. This one is much better and appropriate since has nicely separated channels with optional switch controlled bridging and individual gain (volume) controls for each speaker. We had one minor issue, the unit had no output on initial hookup. I called Eric at ext 111 and he asked me to look at a small plug inside the unit that sometimes comes off during shipping. It was unplugged, and after plugging it in the unit worked perfectly. We've been enjoying the excellent power and sound quality since.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great amp to run speakers all over the housebought one for my house and loved it. so I recommended it to a customer and they love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good multi-zone amp for the price.I needed to expand my whole home system to several additional zones. Originally tried the Sherwood RX-5502, which had essentially 4 additional zones (8 channels). That thing was garbage and I don't recommend it. I decided to try the MA1240A and am very pleased. All of my additional zones have more punch than what I had using the RX-5502. There's no reduced volume or concerns with overheating. I love the fact that the unit has the auto-off and bridging capabilities too. I highly recommend this unit for expanding audio zones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great PriceI recently purchased this product to drive 16 speakers spead equally accross 4 zones in my new house which under construction. When I compared the features to the competition, I ws convinced this product will perform equally or better at a much lower price. Additionally this unit was smaller in size and will fit nicley in the custom cabinets being built.

Dayton Audio MA1240a Multi-Zone 12 Channel Amplifier

I want to plug 6 separate chromecast audio streamers in so they can feed audio to 6 different pairs of speakers.  The chromecast software will then handle any grouping I need.  Does each pair accept its own input?

Asked by: Hylton
Yes you can have each zone wired to a different source, or use the bus inputs and feed all zones the same thing.

Sorry stupid question, but does this unit really weigh 38lbs?? This seems very heavy (and for me is no good as I need to be able to ship it easily from one venue to another).

Asked by: Lexi
Yes the weight is accurate due to two large transformers.

I am considering using this amp with a Chromecast Audio device in order to stream music into 4 separate rooms (zones) at the same time. Can the channels be synced to play the same thing through multiple zones?

Asked by: Dorianstarbuck
Yes. If you plug the source into one of the bus inputs, you just have to select that input for each of the outputs you want the same thing played.

Is this rack mountable?  Also, will it work with a control4 matrix?  Thanks

Asked by: morcohen
Yes this amplifier is rack mountable and includes rack ears. I am not directly familiar with the Control4 matrix so I cannot say if they will work together.

If i buy this and 6 speakers shipped to New Zealand can you please provide a AUS/NZ Power cord instead of the US one?

Asked by: AnthonyBurman
We do have AS/NZS power cords available separately, but we cannot substitute them with the amplifier.

What is the maximum wire gauge I can use? Can I use 12 or 14 gauge speaker wire or it want accept anything larger than 16?

Asked by: wsap01
These should accept 14 gauge wire without a problem, 12 will probably be a pretty tight fit.
