Product Details

Dayton Audio MA1240a Multi-Zone 12 Channel Amplifier

The Dayton Audio MA1240a features a Class-AB output circuit that delivers superior audiophile sound quality and stable performance. Each of your installation's zones can benefit from the MA1240a's clean audio reproduction and exceptional functionality. The MA1240a can be stacked with other audio components and includes removable ears for mounting in standard audio racks (2RU).

Two common or BUS inputs feed audio signals from standard line-level audio sources to any or all channels. Each of the twelve channels has its own dedicated input and independent level adjustment to provide further flexibility. By simply flipping a single switch, two channels can be bridged to increase the total power output for that zone. This is helpful when extra power is needed in certain areas.

The MA1240a's manual, automatic on/off, or triggered 12V input turn-on modes facilitate easy integration into automated systems. For quick and easy troubleshooting of the system, each pair of channels or zones has a bi-color LED to indicate its operational status.

Specifications: • Rated power output per channel: 40 watts into 8 ohms, 60 watts into 4 ohms (0.09% THD) • Bridged output: 80 watts into 8 ohms (0.30% THD) • Signal to noise ratio: 95 dB A-weighted • Input impedance: 18K ohms • Input sensitivity: 380 mV • Frequency response: 5 Hz - 20 kHz • Channel crosstalk: 80 dB • Dimensions: 16.7" W x 4" H x 14.25" D (tabletop configuration) • Power requirements: 115/230 VAC, 50/60 Hz • Stand-by power rating: 115V, 0.264W • Weight: 30 lbs.

Dayton Audio MA1240a Multi-Zone 12 Channel Amplifier
Dayton Audio MA1240a Multi-Zone 12 Channel Amplifier is rated 4.75 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for whole house sound systems.Got this after running whole house on a cheap Sony regular stereo head for a long time. This one is much better and appropriate since has nicely separated channels with optional switch controlled bridging and individual gain (volume) controls for each speaker. We had one minor issue, the unit had no output on initial hookup. I called Eric at ext 111 and he asked me to look at a small plug inside the unit that sometimes comes off during shipping. It was unplugged, and after plugging it in the unit worked perfectly. We've been enjoying the excellent power and sound quality since.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good multi-zone amp for the price.I needed to expand my whole home system to several additional zones. Originally tried the Sherwood RX-5502, which had essentially 4 additional zones (8 channels). That thing was garbage and I don't recommend it. I decided to try the MA1240A and am very pleased. All of my additional zones have more punch than what I had using the RX-5502. There's no reduced volume or concerns with overheating. I love the fact that the unit has the auto-off and bridging capabilities too. I highly recommend this unit for expanding audio zones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great PriceI recently purchased this product to drive 16 speakers spead equally accross 4 zones in my new house which under construction. When I compared the features to the competition, I ws convinced this product will perform equally or better at a much lower price. Additionally this unit was smaller in size and will fit nicley in the custom cabinets being built.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Multi Zone SoulutionI Purchased this Amp over Two Years ago and run it with two Channels Bridged for a total of Ten Channels that run Five Zones of Sonos Audio Distribution in my home. It is a perfect Amp for this purpose, although I have never really driven it to it's potiential, as rarely do I have more than three zones on at any one time. For Whole House Audio, it does very well.

- Will the BUS input override the input from individual zones and function as a paging input or will the BUS input only play on zones where the BUS 1 is selected?

Asked by: Davidnyc
The BUS inputs will only play when BUS 1 is selected, this amplifier does not have a priority mode.

- I have rooms with 2 or more pairs of speakers. Can i bridge 2 zones for more power and use a impedance matching device to connect more than 2 pairs of speakers to those 2 bridged zones?

Asked by: Davidnyc
You cannot bridge zones, only the two channels of a zone can be bridged. A bridged zone is limited to an 8-ohm speaker load. I do not recommend using impedance-matching devices with home audio amplifiers, of which this is one.

Can I bridge two/four channels for more power and use Bus 1 as an input for all zones including the bridged ones?

Asked by: Jpandes
You can bridge two channels on this amp, but not 4. You can still use bus 1 as the input if you like though.

Hello, I am looking to run 6 speakers through an office. So basically 6 individual rooms. Would I be able to wire one speaker per zone?

Asked by: dcd1980
Yes this is perfectly possible. You can bridge each of the 6 pairs of outputs to have 6 individual channels with double the power output.

Will the Dayton MA1240a amp allow for the operation of zones independently? Say, could I only have zones 1-4 running one day and then all 6 on another day? I want to supply my garage and patio areas with music but would not always want music going to them

Asked by: rick44720
This amplifier is capable of doing this, although in order to turn the individual zones on and off you will have to select a different input on the back of the unit every time you wish to do so.
