Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value!I had a home built sub and front speakers, so, this fit the bill perfectly to complete a surround system. I sent two of the speakers out to the deck, and used the center channel and a pair of the satellites to result in 5.1. Since wide frequency response is not so critical in those uses, these speakers worked just fine. I would never consider using a pair of these as primary front speakers though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from one box solutionThese speakers are very good at sound for movies as well as some music listening. Along with a sub they are better than most speaker packages that are 2 or 3 times the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent for a small budget and tight WAF.I bought a set of these to go with a Dayton 12 inch subwoofer and a Pioneer VSX521-K for my brother-in-law. He isn't an audio nut, but he wanted surround sound and I couldn't stand the thought of my sister buying one of those Coby HTIB from Wal-Mart. They live in a Condo and won't be moving any time too soon, so the volume demands aren't super high, and combined with the very strict standards of "cuteness" required by his wife, these fit the bill. They sound solid, but aren't "amazing", and and since they are used for surround sound WITH a sub, they work. The crossover has to be set pretty high. So high, in fact, that I think the 10" Dayton MAY have been a better choice. I found that I had to set it to 180hz to fill in right, otherwise they sound too hollow. If I was looking for speakers on a tight budget and the WAF wasn't such an issue, I would have gone with 4 of the Dayton B652's and a different center, which wouldn't have cost TOO much more, but these are so small and clean looking that they pass muster with the wife.OVERALL:Better than the low end HTIB speakers, but not "audiophile" by any stretch. I would rank them close to my Dad's old Bose cubes from the 90's, before he upgraded to Klipsch. These simply won't cut it without a subwoofer, so don't even think about it...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great speakers for the priceI was remodeling my house and needed smaller, but high performing speakers. I saw the price, and took a chance, and l couldn't be happier. Despite the small size, the speakers handle the full range of sound quite well. I use my home theater setup for music too, and have found no issues. The center channel absolutely rocks! I will be buying more products from parts express.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound for the money! These speakers put out a great clean and crisp sound, they deffinitly need a sub as they dont put out any lows with my sub turned off. I have them running through an Onkyo 260.Con: the only thing that annoyed me was I had to drill out the hole on the mounts to use the screws that came with the kit. I didnt want to use a smaller screw since I wanted them to stay stable on the walls

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive performance even if you're not on a limited budget.I'm very grateful to have a generous father who often upgrades to the latest and greatest, blessing me with a myriad of free "outdated" electronic devices. He had recently given me his "old" Denon AVR-2805 receiver and 1st generation PS3/BlueRay so naturally I had to buy my own 5.1 speakers on a budget. I'm 31 years old, just purchased a new house and car last year with my girlfriend and her two children so you see where this impedes our budget for luxuries such as 5.1 surround sound systems.I bought these based on the positive reviews and some good experiences with Parts Express in the past. I must say it's a very powerful package for little money. We also purchased the Sanus HTB7 stands and they work great together (#240-818).The speakers are best used with a subwoofer in 5.1 configuration. I also needed a powered sub on a budget and built one for a little over $200 using an Alphasonik 10" dual voice coil driver, a Goldwood vented car subwoofer box (#260-628), and a Dayton Audio SA240 plate amplifier (#300-804). You can see my reviews for both of those products under "Perfect amp/box for my ghetto home theater sub!"The whole system sounds very crisp and detailed with exceptional imaging and separation. Especially when driven by a decent amp with some juice. Even better if you have a receiver that can cut off the frequencies below 100hz like the Denon I'm using. Transformers 2 on BlueRay sounds incredible! The lower mids could be a little better but that's to be expected in a speaker this size. Even so, this package will not disappoint you even if budget isn't much of a concern.I'm no stranger to Hi-Fi systems or pro audio recording gear so I'm confident in saying I know good sound when I hear it. I also own a pair of ADAM Audio A7 monitors for my home studio. These Daytons are very good speakers and an excellent value for the whole package. Just remember to add a powered sub to get the full effect.

Dayton Audio HTS-1200B Home Theater Speaker System Black

About the curvature of the satellite speakers: If the speaker is set vertically on a flat service (like a speaker stand), does the tweeter actually aim upward? Or is the actual baffle really flat and vertical, and just the grill curves up?

Asked by: TWS4
The baffle is flat but it is angled slightly upward if the speaker is sitting on its base. Only the grill is curved.

Do these accept adjustable speaker stands that screw in at the bottom of the speaker?

Asked by: Rilo40
These do not have provisions for bottom mounting but they can be used with stands that screw into the back of the speaker.

Do these come in white or can I paint them?

Asked by: WackWack
These are only available in black. You could paint them, but I would recommend removing the grills to paint, and masking off the front of the speaker for protect the drivers.

Is the grill on these speakers removable? Will I accomplish better audio using 16 or 14 gauge wire instead of the 22 gauge?

Asked by: Lewis54
The grill is glued in place so removing it will likely cause damage to the grill. A thicker wire gauge will not be beneficial in terms of audio quality. It may be beneficial if you have longer runs to the speakers, although there is no reason to use anything bigger than 16 gauge. Even 18 will be perfectly suitable for most applications.

I have a receiver that delivers 90 watts rms per channel.. Will these speakers be able to handle that? Do I just have to keep the volume down?

Asked by: dukejsh
The receiver should either have a large/small speaker setting or a high pass filter to block low frequencies to the main speakers. You want the filter set around 100 Hz or the main speakers set to "small" in order to not over power them.
