Dayton Audio H6512 6-1/2" x 12" Waveguide 1" Threaded

The Dayton Audio H6512 high frequency waveguide is precision molded from durable ABS plastic, and has an industry-standard 1-3/8" x 18 TPI throat for mounting screw-on style drivers. Its unique flare geometry exhibits a nominal 90° horizontal x 50° vertical coverage pattern, and will provide useful acoustical loading down to 1,000 Hz. Used in many DIY audio Econowave designs.

Specifications: • Throat diameter: 1" • Driver mounting: 1-3/8"-18 TPI • Nominal coverage: 90°H x 50° V • Cutoff frequency: 1,000 Hz • Dimensions: 6-1/2" H x 12" W x 4-1/4" D • Cutout dimensions: 5" H x 10-1/2" W.

A waveguide couples the high frequency driver to the listening space without the harmful distortion artifacts of marginally designed and implemented horn loading. It achieves this through the use of non-traditional geometries and lower expansion rates.

The resultant sound has less distortion, with an "open" characteristic not often associated with typical "pinched" or "honky" compression driver/horn combinations. Dayton Audio professional waveguides reveal all of the articulate, accurate sound reproduction that your HF drivers are capable of delivering, whether the application is live sound, critical studio monitoring, or demanding home audio playback.

Dayton Audio H6512 6-1/2" x 12" Waveguide 1" Threaded
Dayton Audio H6512 6-1/2" x 12" Waveguide 1" Threaded is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Workhorse sound reinforcement hornWe have bought several of these over the past three years. We use them in our proprietary medium room cabinets which are loaded with the Dayton PA-380 15" woofer and an Eminence 1.6kHz two way crossover. With this set up they simply work very well. They get plenty loud without the real pinched honky horn business you usually encounter. Are they perfect, NO, but they are a workhorse horn that sounds good.NOTE!Make sure you fully support the high frequency driver to keep unnecessary loads off of the plastic horn and it will last a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good inexpensive lens :)Auditioned several different type lens for My new 212 monitor design, I went with the Dayton. The HF responce is the clearest, most articulate natural sounding I have heard on ANY live sound stage monitor, includeing the ones that cost 3K...... And yet they cut through everything else without haveing to "blow your head off", although they can do that to... I have used these for 5 shows now, and without saying anything before they do, I get "Man these monitors sound good" And thats what We want...Happy coustomers!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from JBL ReplicaThis is the same horn, from the same casting, as the JBL JRX series horns. Nice smooth frequency spectrum and smooth wide angle dispersion. The Selenium D220Ti is superior to the drivers JBL uses for this combination but it is a very hot (SPL) driver. For me, the Selenium D220Ti 8 ohm driver over powers a 4 ohm efficient extended range 15" speaker, I have found that the D220Ti-16 (16 Ohm version) is a better match. Just remember your crossovers have to be designed for 16 ohms on the high end.Peace Out fellow speaker builders

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for econowaveUsing this waveguide with a Selenium DH200E-E with very good results, very smooth articulate sound. Build quality seems to be very good in terms of durability. However; on the three I have received so far there is some rough edges from the mold at the thought, but nothing that a small file and a minute of time couldn't deal with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth soundingWorks great with Eminence ASD1001---see my review of that driver for more info on my project. Probably would work great with most HF drivers.

What will happen if I use any horn like this that has a 1000hz minimum usable frequency with a horn that is cut much lower at 600hz? Will those bottom 400Hz not make it out?

Asked by: digitalryan
That is correct, the horn will not support a wavelength shorter than 1,000 Hz.

You say, "industry-standard 1-3/8" x 18" while you cal this thing 1". You don't find that confusing?

Asked by: Bullet
This horn has a throat (or exit) diameter of 1". That's measuring the diameter of the hole the sound comes through at the back of the horn. The industry standard thread diameter for driver mounting is 1-3/8" by 18 TPI (threads per inch). This will naturally have to be larger in diameter than the throat opening or it wouldn't thread into the horn. Both dimensions are industry standards for 1" threaded horn lenses and drivers.

How would you ad this waveguide+ 1" driver to a 8" horn loaded speaker or a 10" onken cab

I am thinking that instead of the overpriced Fostex bullet tweeters, I can get a pair of these and a pair of high end 1" compression drivers. What would be the ideal set up to attenuate and control the outputs? My fostex is a Sigma 208 driver that begins to taper off at 14K.My onken 10" woofers are older Vifa drivers whose cut off I do not know.
Asked by: Bemopti123
The application of an L-pad would be the standard solution for attenuating high frequency drivers. The correct L-pad for your specific situation will be determined by the impedance of the driver you're attenuating, and the power you're sending to said driver. Here is a link to our selection of L-pads for your convenience:http://www.parts-express.com/wizards/searchResults.cfm?srchExt=CAT&srchCat=196
