Product Details

Dayton Audio DTA-120 Class T Digital Mini Amplifier 60 WPC

Dayton Audio has revamped the popular DTA-100 mini amplifier with an all-new design that improves on every part of the DTA-100's performance. The result is the Dayton Audio DTA-120 Class T digital amplifier. It's everything you need in a mini amp, delivering the performance of enormous hi-fi gear, and smart features you'll wonder how you lived without...and thanks to the space-saving design, it fits and installs practically anywhere!

Big-Amplifier Power

The DTA-120 amplifier delivers the power of a monster amplifier, but in a tiny package. Thanks to Tripath's proprietary Class T technology, plus a robust Dual Parallel BTL configuration, the DTA-120 tackles the toughest speaker loads with ease -- while delivering the sound quality and low distortion of a conventional Class AB amplifier. The dual-power-chip design delivers 60 watts (RMS) per channel of efficient power into an 4 ohm load (up to 120 watts total), and 40 watts (RMS) into 8 ohms – continuously, with no reduction in output. That means powerful bass and clear output that keeps on going, even with the most demanding speakers.

Convenient, Small Size

With the DTA-120 amplifier, you get the most power possible from the smallest footprint imaginable. At under 3-1/2" wide, 2-1/4" tall, and 6" deep, the DTA-120 delivers more power per cubic inch than any other mini amplifier. All this is thanks to the revolutionary, cool-running Class T digital PWM amplifier technology and the extruded aluminum heatsink case. The robust external switching power supply hides out of sight. But since it can supply high current with even higher peaks, the DTA-120 can easily drive HUGE speakers.

High-End Features and Quality

The DTA-120 amplifier delivers the features you expect in a much more expensive amplifier, at a fraction of the size and price. The housing is black-anodized aluminum, with a thick machined faceplate and a silky-smooth volume control. The rear panel features high-quality, gold-plated RCA inputs and shielded, gold-plated 5-way binding posts that accept any type of speaker cable. A high-current DC power jack is also used to ensure maximum power transfer to the amp. On the front panel, there's a second 3.5 mm audio input jack, as well as a 1/4" headphone jack that receives its signal from a separate, high-quality headphone amplifier stage controlled by the main volume knob. (3.5 mm to 1/4" adapter included.)

Works With ALL Your Sources

In a world of changing digital and wireless specifications, the high-quality analog design of the DTA-120 remains virtually future-proof. Just connect it to any device with a headphone output jack and begin enjoying powerful, high-quality audio through your own speakers. Short signal paths inside the amplifier preserve all the quality of the input signal, and the DTA-120 automatically switches from the rear inputs to the front input when connected. No switches to flip, and just one knob. The DTA-120 is the perfect complement to your smartphone, tablet, laptop, PC, television, or any other audio source.

Head-Fi Friendly Design

The DTA-120 is the ultimate desktop amplifier. Not only can it drive even the smallest and least-efficient speakers to almost painful levels without strain, making it perfect for powering desktop mini-monitor speakers, but it also offers a separate solid-state headphone amplifier stage capable of powering even the most demanding headphones to high listening levels while preserving clarity, detail, and a refined sonic character. However you like to listen at your desk, the DTA-120 is the perfect partner.

Dayton Audio DTA-120 Class T Digital Mini Amplifier 60 WPC
Dayton Audio DTA-120 Class T Digital Mini Amplifier 60 WPC is rated 4.8378 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent product for the money.I bought two of these amps to power some modest sized speakers that I built with Dayton drivers for my kids. The amps are small and simple, and sound a lot bigger than they are. I can't give them 5 stars, because that would imply they are what they're not, which would be something comparable to my Audio Research gear. What they are is great little amps for the price, and I recommend them highly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Desktop Solution / TriTrix AmpI bought this as part of my downsizing as I'm soon to be married and will reducing on my personal space... Having had a 5.1 system set up in my bedroom before which is now mostly being split up into our home theatre system, I needed an amp to keep my TriTrix speakers kicking with my computer set-up. I searched locally (Lower Mainland, BC, Canada), but had a hard time finding as elegant a solution as this for such a low price point, and I also was quite happy with the TriTrix kit I had ordered in the past from Parts Express.I was worried that this amp would not provide enough power, as I was going from an Onkyo 5.1 receiver which was rated for 400W, but it only took a moment of turning it on to realize that this thing has more power available than I'll ever need to use for my purposes. I listen to a lot of music, primarily Classic Rock, New Folk, and some other odd bands here and there, as well as gaming and watching Netflix. I rarely turn the volume dial past the half-way point, and that is with my volume set quite low on my computer as well.I'm not a tried and true audiophile, but I like to think it provides a more dynamic sound than the receiver I was using before. The headphone jack is also a definite positive, and seems to be a good match with my Audio Technica ATH-M50's. I also appreciate the 3.5mm input on the front of the unit, which which automatically overrides the RCA inputs on the back, making portable sources easy to use. The only negative thing I can think of is that the blue LED that lights up when the amp is turned on burned out within a day, but I don't care all too much. I would definitely recommend this product, and I would buy again if I ever need to set up another 2 channel system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected!I purchased this to power a set of bose 121 outdoor speakers an it rocks. A niceclean sound even at high volume. Plenty of bass, crunchy mids, and crispy highs.Well worth the price and it's minimal size will fit just about anywhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SmoothFirst of all , when I got all the cables and wires put all together and turned it on, there was no hiss or hum ! Clean ! Then , when the music started, I heard very smooth sound ! It's hard to believe what a DAC would do to improve because the sound is already good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact amp works great in tight placesI am using this to amplify my cable audio in the outdoor cabana. It's perfect if cabinet space is small. The quality of sound generated is great for this type of application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Little Amp!Bought this from PE a few months ago to run some speakers out by the pool for the summer. I used an Apple airport express to feed music from our iphones to the amp via AirPlay. These had plenty of volume and clarity with my old stereo speakers. Decided to get some Dayton IO655 Outdoor speakers for better long term results. However, School started back (I'm a teacher) and I took the IO655's/DTA-120 to school for use in my classroom. This turned out to be an awesome combination and fills my large classroom with plenty of sound. Bass response is even very good (Except for the lowest notes which should be produced by a subwoofer). This amp has never lacked power, had any sort of hiss, or given any problems. My only con would be a small turn on thump.

With a source such as a Walkman NWZ-ZX1 or an iPod, which input should I use, front or back? Is there any difference?

Asked by: Jack In St Joe
It makes no difference. The front input will override the RCA's on the back, but that is the only different between the two.

What is it's signal to noise ratio, A and C weighted? I bought another model of same manufacturer Class T amp and it was clear but noisy. Notably this spec in not mentioned in your literature.

Asked by: roilier

Sorry for the spam but, is it possible to use an adapter of sorts to go from a uk to edison style plug and use the amp like that, or would it affect the quality of the sound/cause any negative effects to the amp or speakers?

Asked by: Rohit12359
Since the power supply will accept a wide range of voltages, all you will need is a standard plug adapter and it will work as advertised with no ill effects.

Hey I was just wondering if you guys sell this with a UK plug?

Asked by: Rohit12359
Unfortunately no, the adapter will accept 100-240 VAC input but it is only available with an Edison type plug.
