Product Details

Dayton Audio DSS3-BC Black Chrome Speaker Spike Set 4 Pcs.

Rigidly coupling a loudspeaker enclosure to a floor by means of a "spiking" system dramatically improves clarity, stereo imaging, and bass response. This is especially apparent with subwoofer systems. These attractive spikes are precision machined from solid brass and then plated with a durable finish. Barbed insert nuts and 6 mm threaded studs are included for mounting in cabinets with walls up to 1" thick. Set includes four cone spikes, four floor discs, four barbed insert nuts, and four threaded studs. • Dimensions: 9/16" diameter, 1-5/16" high (including disc).

Dayton Audio DSS3-BC Black Chrome Speaker Spike Set 4 Pcs. is rated 3.3333 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from They're nice... butI'm sure they work OK, but I'll never find out.I bought these because my Klipsch KLF 20's were missing a couple cone feet, the threads "looked" like they would match so I bought them anyways as I needed some other things as well. The threads do not fit into the OEM nuts, and given the weight of the 20's I wasn't going to try taking out the OEM nut to use the inserts. Just not enough meat to take the weight. If the thread pitch had been listed, I wouldn't have ordered them in the first place just to try out.I'm sure they do as advertised and they look nice and all, but for my situation the possible risk of damage was just to great for me to try them out.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wish they were heavierThey really helped making my somewhat top-heavy speakers steady on a thick carpet, but I can't say I noticed much difference in acoustics. My speakers are heavy - 65 pounds each - and 2 of the cast metal inserts into which the spikes screw cracked while hefting the speakers around to place them optimally in the room. I replaced them all with solid brass inserts from a woodworking supply company, and they held up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Little unstable but helped a lot.Bought these to put under my 2 15" Subwoofers. My bass response is much tighter now and also much smoother with music. They were very easy to install with drilling a 3/8" hole before. The only thing I didnt like was trying to place them on the 1/2" circle that they provided. My carpet is thick but not like shaggy and I had the hardest time trying to get them to stay on the feet so they didnt poke through the carpet all the time.

What type of threads are on the top of the spikes? I'm probably going to implement these into a design in which I will not use the insert nuts and need to know what type of threads they are ahead of time. Thanks

Asked by: Rocca1290
These use an M6 thread.

How much weight can the spikes and discs handle?

I'm having a hi-fi rack made, and those little discs will be underneath it all. There's likely to be 200-250 lbs of weight bearing down on the spikes and the feet they sit in. Are the spikes, and especially the feet they sit on, at risk of breaking under such weight?

ANY HOME TYPE SPEAKER LESS THAN 100 LBS SHOULD WORK
