Dayton Audio DS315-8 12" Designer Series Woofer Speaker
Dayton Audio DS315-8 12" Designer Series Woofer Speaker is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent replacementShopped around for tower speakers to replace my old Cerwin-Vega D5s. Didn't find any I liked AND could afford, so I replaced the woofers in the D5s with these. They sound better than the originals and I saved some bucks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous bass response!I bought these speakers to replace another pair of 12" woofers in the hopes of improving the bass output of my home-built speakers. I have to say that I am not disappointed. The reproduction of low frequencies is in my opinion likely better than any speaker I've ever owned or built. I'm even tempted to turn down the bass control on my amp because the bass is so powerful. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SolidI have a pair of early 1990's Infinity Studio Monitor 120's (12"-3Way). They needed new woofers and for the price and power rating, these Dayton's are excellent ! I did have to enlarge the opening (no problem; duct tape, jig saw, and a vacuum cleaner) and they slipped right in. With the speaker grills off, the replacement speakers look like the originals. A great look. Even better, of course, is the sound. They sound Great !! I am very pleased. Great sound, great looks. Value is excellent. Paul

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent replacement woofers. My original Cerwin Vega speakers had four screws and the Daytons have five.I was a little skeptical at first about these replacements, but after I drilled the new holes and screwed them tightly to the cabinets I realized it was worth the time and effort. When I turned on the tuner and slowly cranked up the volume the speakers sounded fantastic. A very crisp bass sound and a different sound from the drums which I never really heard from the original speakers. Like the drums were more audible and not sounding in the background. Hard to describe the difference. Just better sound quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit and great soundI purchased 2 of these to replace the 12" 8 ohm drivers on my circa 1990 3-way Optimus 950 speakers , one with a torn surround. The new surrounds were too large so to keep the speakers working, I found these which required the smallest boxes available, checked with Tech support and then ordered them. Great sound, much better than the un-torn original. The magnet ~2X as heavy & self gasket helps also. Cutout data is wrong, however, as my 10.625 cutout took speaker perfectly & unfortunately I had unnecessarily cut ~1/8 " on one speaker to fit their supposed 10.75 drop in cutout requirement.

What size port would you reccomend for this drover in a 1.5 cubic foot enclosure?

DS315-8 #295-434 Being used in a volume of 2.55 cubic foot. According to recommended tuning, will a 3" DIA. x 5" or 5.5" long port work OK? Looks to be about 30 or 28 Hz range,

Asked by: jeffst
I would recommend using a 3" diameter by 8" long port.

Hello; if used along Dayton Audio SD315-PR 12" Passive Radiator, do I need one or two radiators per box.? Could you please advice me as to what enclosure volume and passive radiator "weight" use for such application.? Looking for F3 around 30 Hz.

Asked by: OjoRojO
I would recommend using two 12" passives with each of these woofers. A volume of 2 cubic feet with 200 grams added to each passive will result in a tuning frequency of 30 Hz.

Hi.  Can you recommend a high frequency speaker which would  be a good match for this woofer in a two way system in a sealed box?  Also, what would be an appropriate crossover?  Thanks.

Asked by: auroraaudio

I have a box I will re-work for this speaker. It will be a 3-way system, but the woofer will be the only occupant in a 1.65 cu. ft. box. Would you provide the proper port dimensions> Thanks.

Asked by: denzee300
I would recommend a port that is 3" in diameter and 10" long for a tuning frequency of 31 Hz.
