Rated 4 out of 5 by from awesome sounding speakerI built a portable job site radio because nothing on the market is loud enough to hear where I work lots of background noise it has a dta120 amp and Dayton crossovers paired with the Dayton speakers and selenium st350 tweeter the enclosure is 22x12x10 with a 1/2 x 10 tall x 6 deep slot port it also has a Motorola Bluetooth module that has a 300ft range everyone is extremely surprised how loud it can get and it still sounds amazing

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great speakers! Lexus SC430Great speakers! I used them to replace the 6x9 door woofers in my 04 Lexus SC430. The only issue I ran into is that they are deep and the magnets are huge but that equals great sound so it was worth it. I had to use ½ in spacers when mounting them so they wouldn’t be in the way of the window. Car sounds much better now!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dayton Audio DS175-8, 6.5" wooferI have to give credit where credit is do, and the Dayton Audio DS175-8 is an exceptional mid priced, small 6.5" woofer, with a lot of BIG output. Before its final mounting destination, I simply cutout a hole in the box it came in, apply extra tape to the box to seal it well and stiffin it up, then add a little insulating poly foam and mount the speaker to the box for initial testing purposes. I ran the woofer on 3 separate amplifiers/receivers for clarity comparison. The excursion was beyond exceptional, without overpowering it. No popping or rattling, plus the mid freq. upper range (4000hz +) of this woofer was crystal clear through the excursion. I knew the actual bass response freqs, would be inaccurate through this initial testing, but still, I was impressed with how it sounded and performed so far. Ultimately it was finally mounted in a fair size enclosure, coupled with a midrange/tweeter and through the specifications P.E. provided, it was the perfect driver that I was looking for. Fair power handling, perfect freq. range for lows + mids, poly coated cone and center cap and rubber surrounds (a plus for deflecting moisture and humidity), 1.4" voice coil, 30 oz. magnet, 2 mounting gaskets cover the rear of the mounting flange, and a venting hole through the rear of the magnet are some of the positive features that held my interest toward buying 2 of these drivers.Overall this is a quality product that performs excellent for my application. I would recommend this woofer, and backed up by P.E.s staff and great policies, you just cant go wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Changed an infinity woofer to matchThis is the second woofer that I bought in order to change the infinity woofer to match a blown speaker that I fixed with this same designer woofer from Dayton Audio. I mentioned in the previous review that the response matched a pioneer center channel speaker at 40hz. Now the whole front hits at the same level, quite impressive for a 6 1/2" woofer! This set is connected to a Sony STR-DH740 AV receiver in a small media room with a JBL powered subwoofer and Sony center channel surrounds in the rear for a 5.1 set. Just know in advance that this is a 5 hole mount and in my case required tapering the whole to fit the frame, but it is well worth the work!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OK, it is just WOW!I bought this woofer to replace a blown infinity bookshelf woofer that I had sitting packed up in the garage. I did not measure the hole and guessed the size to be 6 1/2", but it was actually 6", so as you can imagine, I had some air tool work to do. 30 minutes later, I had finished the work with my engine head porting tool and was ready for install. The cover bracket which held the tweeter had to be cleared for a screw head since this is a five hole mount. This speaker was joining it's original twin in a small media room as front high mains in 5.1 setup. The center was a Pioneer dual 6 1/2" woofer center channel speaker which kicks down to 40 Hz. To my surprise, this setup matched the center bass output of the dual woofer center! Now, I have to upgrade the original infinity to match this new little behemoth! Great job on this speaker, Dayton!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great WoofersUnfortunately, the metal flange surrounding the speaker was bent, presumably during shipping. I was able to straighten it with pliers, but it was still a bit unsettling to see bent metal upon unpacking. It would be nice if they used better/more packing material. That said, the speakers work great, they arrived in a timely fashion, and I couldn't be happier with them. I used these to replace the woofers on an old Klipsch 4.1 PC speaker system. I now have more bass than I know what to do with. Hopefully I'll get another 12 years out of this speaker system.

What happens if these three drivers to load 30 liters with a resonator # 260-478? Or for that volume optimal another port?

Asked by: Grey
Three of these will work in that volume, but I would recommend cutting the port to 4" in length for a tuning frequency of 44 Hz.

I want to build a set of three way towers with these woofers.  what would be good box deminisions for s vented box?  I am running a subwoofer what would be a good croosover point for them too?  thanks, Arron

Asked by: Arron52
A pair of these will work well in 0.9 cubic feet with one of our 260-478 ports. This will provide a tuning frequency of 40 Hz. This will provide a lot of flexibility when crossing to a sub, usually they are crossed around 80-100 Hz.

What is the recommended air space and tuning for two of these in a single cabinet that will yield the lowest freq? Also, what is the highest usable crossover freq (in terms of SQ)? These will be rear mounted in cabinet with front facing mid and tweet.

Asked by: btucker
I would recommend a volume of 0.8 cubic feet total for both, with a 3" diameter, 10" long port for a tuning frequency of 45 Hz. If these will be rear facing you will want a relatively low crossover frequency between 150-250 Hz which these will handle without a problem.

Will this speaker work well as a replacement for a BIC fh65b 6 1/2 inch horn tweeter bookshelf speaker? They are ported and are a decently well made( $90 a piece) Don't know the exact measurements of the cabinet though but the power rating is about on par

I'd like to try using this woofer in the BR-1 cabinet. 2 questions: Can it be mounted on that baffle, without further routing? And, will the port and tuning work well with this woofer? Thanks in advance.

Asked by: Mike Porper
The cabinet volume and tuning will work fine, but it will require cutout modifications in order to fit on the baffle since this frame is larger than the stock woofer.
