Dayton Audio DS175-8 6-1/2" Designer Series Woofer Speaker
Dayton Audio DS175-8 6-1/2" Designer Series Woofer Speaker is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Changed an infinity woofer to matchThis is the second woofer that I bought in order to change the infinity woofer to match a blown speaker that I fixed with this same designer woofer from Dayton Audio. I mentioned in the previous review that the response matched a pioneer center channel speaker at 40hz. Now the whole front hits at the same level, quite impressive for a 6 1/2" woofer! This set is connected to a Sony STR-DH740 AV receiver in a small media room with a JBL powered subwoofer and Sony center channel surrounds in the rear for a 5.1 set. Just know in advance that this is a 5 hole mount and in my case required tapering the whole to fit the frame, but it is well worth the work!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OK, it is just WOW!I bought this woofer to replace a blown infinity bookshelf woofer that I had sitting packed up in the garage. I did not measure the hole and guessed the size to be 6 1/2", but it was actually 6", so as you can imagine, I had some air tool work to do. 30 minutes later, I had finished the work with my engine head porting tool and was ready for install. The cover bracket which held the tweeter had to be cleared for a screw head since this is a five hole mount. This speaker was joining it's original twin in a small media room as front high mains in 5.1 setup. The center was a Pioneer dual 6 1/2" woofer center channel speaker which kicks down to 40 Hz. To my surprise, this setup matched the center bass output of the dual woofer center! Now, I have to upgrade the original infinity to match this new little behemoth! Great job on this speaker, Dayton!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great WoofersUnfortunately, the metal flange surrounding the speaker was bent, presumably during shipping. I was able to straighten it with pliers, but it was still a bit unsettling to see bent metal upon unpacking. It would be nice if they used better/more packing material. That said, the speakers work great, they arrived in a timely fashion, and I couldn't be happier with them. I used these to replace the woofers on an old Klipsch 4.1 PC speaker system. I now have more bass than I know what to do with. Hopefully I'll get another 12 years out of this speaker system.

Dayton Audio DS175-8 6-1/2" Designer Series Woofer Speaker

I have tapered transmission line box in need of new drivers. Weem's design: 6.5" wide, 8" deep, 39.4" tall. Woofer opening is at the top, throat at bottom. Will this woofer perform well in this box ? If not, what woofer(s) do you recommend ? thanks

Asked by: bwmac256

I just replaced my Dayton classic 6-1/2 speakers with the designer series because the box was to small for them and these were supposed to be a better fit the box is about .6 cuft portedbut they have no where near the bass the classics what should I do

What port size would you recommend for a .25 cubic ft enclosure? Thx.

Asked by: Andyld
I would recommend a port that is 2" in diameter and 8" long for this volume.

I have a pair of DC28F-8 1-1/8" tweeters and I'm looking for a good woofer match for a set of powered computer speakers. Is there enough frequency overlap in these two drivers? If so, would 2,500Hz be a good xOver freq.?

Asked by: RobSwindol
Yes these two will work well together, anything between 2k and 2.5kHz will work well.

what is a good x-over point for this woofer? would a 2nd order work?

Asked by: jasm
The recommended crossover for this woofer depends on too many variables to provide one number. Please email our tech support with details about the tweeter you plan on using for more help with this matter.

What will be the result if you use port # 260-476 in the volume of 14-15 liters?

Asked by: 200861ksv
With that volume and port, the tuning frequency will be 45 Hz which looks very good.
