Dayton Audio DS135-8 5" Designer Series Woofer Speaker is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great 5"!Bought these for another experiment in the venerable PVC enclosure. Crossed at 2500 Hz with a scrap Paradigm tweeter. .17 square foot enclosure with a 1" port 4" long. Designed to hang and vent port upward. Sound amazing and will use these again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good replacement speaker.Bought a pair of these in early December and just now getting around to reviewing due to the holiday season. I used these to replace some 4 inch drivers in a pair of mini monitor type speakers that I made back in the '80s. Originally a sub woofer was employed and the system worked fine. Over time I'd always wanted to update the speakers to use as full-range bookshelf speakers for my personal listening system. These speakers fit the cabinet with only a slight amount of modification and mounted very cleanly. The resulting sound is even over the sound spectrum to my ear. Very pleased with these drivers and would highly recommend them to other folks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a good buyuse in biampinge, excellent dynamic range - it is impossible to overload. Thanks partexpress for assistance and advice on the project. Amplifier is built on a 4-tda7293, active crossover frequency - 2kHz. I want to do the next project on discrete elements and speakers based on DS175-8 6-1/2 "and Vifa NE25VTS-04 1."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little speaker! These were purchased to replace the woofers in a set of JBL bookshelf speakers in which the foam surround had dried up and gone away. These are actually a better speaker than what the JBL boxes had in them to begin with. Installation was fairly easy. The cutouts for the original speakers was about 1/4" too small for the frame to drop into, so a bit of work with the Dremel tool was necessary. I was actually surprised at how good they sounded once everything was back together! Much better than I expected, all around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Drop in change with great full soundIn redoing a circa 1990 set of Optimus 950 3-ways, I found that all the mid surrounds were gone. Instead of buying new surrounds, I picked up a pair of these, dropped them in, hooked them up and screwed them down in their sealed compartment. The magnets were 2X heavy and sound is more than 2 x better. A great purchase. As my cabinets were in great shape, they look & sound like new speakers. The T-S specs with their low Qts really helps with a full sound.

Dayton Audio DS135-8 5" Designer Series Woofer Speaker

I plan on putting two of these in each 3 way tower that I'm building. I'm assuming due to the power handling of these drivers coupled to a 100+ watt amp that having the pair in series in a .34cubic ft cabinet with a 1"x4" port would serve well?

Asked by: MikeyMike
The port area is on the small side but the volume works well. I would recommend a 2" diameter, 8" long port instead for a tuning frequency of 55 Hz.

Decided to make floor standing speakers on these drivers. The volume of 14 liters, port # 260-407 - what will be the result?

Asked by: kettle
Assuming one woofer per enclosure, you will have a tuning frequency of 48 Hz and an F3 of 48 Hz with that port.

Is there a recommended tweeter for this woofer? I was thinking  of the Goldwood GT-510 1" Soft Dome Tweeter, but this is my first speaker build and I am trying to find one for about $20. Will this one work well? Also, what is a good crossover point?

Asked by: Steven L
We have many tweeters that will work with this woofer. The Goldwood is a good option, or you may consider the Dayton Classic DC28 as well. Either of these tweeters will work with a 2,500Hz crossover like below.http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-xo2w-25k-2-way-speaker-crossover-2500-hz--260-142

I am going to use this woofer and a 1" tweeter with the suggested vented enclosure. It seems impossible to put a 4" port on the back of the enclosure due to the depth of the enclosure (with the driver making it even less). Should the port be on the front?

Asked by: Steven L
The port can be located anywhere it will fit, it will not matter in terms of the sound you will get.
