Dayton Audio DMPC-0.47 0.47uF 250V Polypropylene Capacitor

polarized vs non-polarized caps in bypass application

I replaced an electrolytic bypass cap with this Dayton part, now the gain is -5db down. Could it have been the difference between polarized and non-polarized caps? Why do amplifier makers use electrolytic's for stage to stage coupling? Should I be replacing bypass caps with same family?
Asked by: StevensHiFi
It sounds like you are talking about a coupling capacitor rather than a bypass capacitor. Furthermore, I presume you are talking about a solid state amp... There are two reasons this isn't done. 1. cost. 2, space. You would need a cpacitor between 4.7 and 10 uF. (both would be quite large...) I'm trying to put a 60 uf as a DC blocking capacitor in my speaker and it's HUGE. =PSo the two things to check are: Did you choose the correct value, and, are your solder joints good.
