Dayton Audio DC130A-8 5-1/4" Classic Woofer Speaker
Dayton Audio DC130A-8 5-1/4" Classic Woofer Speaker is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from dayton 5/14 driver for optimus pro 77 speakersThis driver is excelent . For the optimus pro 77 speakers ..It fits the right screw holes but you need to take a file and gently file down the three outer edges of the driver basket two sides and the bottom . Only about a 64th of an inch each. The terminals on the new driver are fine for the posative side but need larger one on from to fit the neg. The driver sounds terrific . Great bass. And we even plugged the rear port and sounded tighter in lower freq. Response. I hifhly recomend this driver for the pro --77

Rated 4 out of 5 by from replacement for Optimus LX prowith the typical great customer service from PE, I ordered the Daytons to replace the woofers in my Lineaum Optimus Pro LX's.They dropped right in. I had to do a little mod on one of the speaker posts/ to get the existing leads from the crossover to fit .I have 5 pairs of these speakers , both the originals and the subsequent RCA versions.I AB'ed the speakers against an original pair. My guess is that because the woofer on the Dayton is a treated paper cone and seemed more 'rigid" , the speaker had a 'stiffer ' sound than the originals . I don't know that it would be worth gutting the crossover to adjust for that or not , it definitely wouldn't be to me. I am writing this review for all the frustrated LX 5 pro users out there who have lamented in finding replacement woofers to fit the aluminum box.The Dayton is a great aesthetic fit, but not a perfect (IMO) sonic fit . I prefer the old woofer . Thanks to Stacy at PE who spent a great deal of time with me confirming measurements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement for a Boston Acoustic HD5 WooferPurchased a pair of Dayton Audio 5-1/4" Classic Woofers to replace the stock poly cone woofers in a pair of Boston HD5's. (the Boston's needed re-foamed and one speaker was rubbing the voice coil). The Dayton Woofers dropped right into the recessed hole and lined up perfect. They reach lower than the stock woofers and handle more power. Very sonically pleasing. An easy fix for your Boston HD Speakers!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A new life for my Infinity'sWith my Infinity's being over 20 years old, the foam surrounds rotted out. It would have been much more to repair them, instead got the Dayton 51/4" woofers and they just dropped into the cabinet with no problems. The sound is outstanding, the value great. The products arrived in a box with the two speakers individually boxed inside... perfect! Thanks Parts Express, you just may be doing more work for me quite soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use these for Advent MinisBought a pair of these to replace the rotted out woofers on a pair of Advent Minis. They dropped right in (need to remove top gasket) and fit perfectly. They were a little stiff at first, but after a couple hours break in they opened up. Overall, sound quality is a big improvement over the originals. Bass is more pronounced yet tighter. Highly recommended.

Dayton Audio DC130A-8 5-1/4" Classic Woofer Speaker

The port you sugested is a 1 1/2 in D X 4 in L. Is the 4 in L the correct length for this Box (0.36 cu ft) The 3db cut off is listed at 56 Hz. What is the tuning frequency? ( for part # 295-303 )

Asked by: abear
Yes that length and diameter will provide an F3 of 56 Hz in that volume. The tuning frequency is 50 Hz.

For the DC130A-8 what is the port size for the 0.36 cu ft vented box listed in the specs page on your site?

Asked by: abear
I would recommend our part number 260-402 for the proper tuning in that volume.

I'm planning to use this driver with Vifa D27TG35-06 tweeter on a 2nd Order LR crossed at 2500 Hz. Should I use an Impedance Equalization Circuit (Zobel) for it? (Intended cab is vented 0.23 cu/ft, F3 69Hz, Fb 58Hz calculated, not measured)

Asked by: Kowalski54
Generally 2nd order LR filters benefit from a zobel and this driver likely has a fairly steep impedance rise so it couldn't hurt. You can always try it with and without and see which you like better.

Size of enclosure?

What is the minimum size for this woofer? I can't get an accurate calculation. I also don't know what I'm doing. X)
Asked by: Leejin
The minimum size enclosure for the Dayton Audio DC130A-8 5-1/4" woofer is dependent on what you want to do with it. It will work in a 1.5 liter sealed enclosure but the -3dB frequency will be around 140Hz. This could be fine as a mini speaker if your expectation for low frequency output is low. With the addition of a sub this might work out well but the sub should be located close to the speakers because of the high cut-off frequency. However, I'd put it in a ported 7.5 to 8 liter, ~0.28cuft, enclosure and tune it between 65Hz and 80Hz, depending on how low or loud I wanted it to play, whether I was going to use it without or with a sub, and whether the speaker was going to be close to a wall or out away from a wall. The difference in tuning would be just a matter of the port length. For a 2" diameter port the length will be somewhere between 6.5" and 3". For a 1.5" diameter port the length will be between 3.5" and 1.5".For use with a subwoofer in a home theater system and more SPL, ~105dB max @1m, use a short port. For use without a sub and limited SPL, <100dB max @1m, use a long port.I like the Precision Port 2" flared ports, #268-348. Put the port in the back so you don't hear any port artifacts. The Dayton Audio 0.25cuft enclosures would be perfect for these drivers. #302-700 or 302-701The Dayton Audio DC28-F 1-1/8" tweeter, #275-070, would make a great match along with a 2.5kHz second order crossover, #260-142.
