Dayton Audio DAEX58FP Flat Pack 58mm Exciter 25W 8 Ohm
Dayton Audio DAEX58FP Flat Pack 58mm Exciter 25W 8 Ohm is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprising good quality, a step up from the othersHave been experimenting with exciters. I bought some of the cheaper models to start and was having fun but wanted something with more potential. So I bought two of these things. I figured the higher wattage would be better as well as the casing looks much better. They don't stick worth a darn with double stick tape, so I did attach one with screws. The other I'm using tape and duct tape to keep it on, still sounds pretty good considering how hokey my setup is. I"m using a class D amp with a fairly low rating. Still these things get pretty loud and have good full range. Even with a variety of music the quality is pretty good. I now have a single exciter in my living room for a home stereo and it puts out good power. I"m not sure, but these seem to be one of the higher quality units available here on PE. There is one other version that's about the same price and power that I'm considering trying out. I do think I'll order another set of these guys too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice sound from a small packageI bought two sets of these to install in a classic musclecar, (1969 Charger RT) so I could avoid cutting holes in pristine panels, Mounted one on the board that covers the rear of the front seats, one for left, one for right, and installed one in each kick panel in the front floorboard, installed a 50wpc amp and they sound very nice and provide good feedback through the seats so you don't even need a subwoofer to feel the bass. A couple years ago I tried two of them in a Mazda Miata for my daughter to drive, and they sound better under the rear package tray than the door speakers in the car.For the price, they provide a good overall sound inside a car, and don't require a lot of power to drive them. You do have to test fit them before mounting to determine where will provide the best sound, I used double sided trim tape to hold them in place, and they've held on for over 2 years with no issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A True Full Range ExciterIn purchasing a few different exciters to fulfill an R&D project I landed on these. This exciter is special as they require to be screwed down to the surface. I am not a big fan of double sided sticky tape on a permanent mount exciter. Having the ability to be screwed down was an extreme plus. Also perfect for removing and reattaching in developmental applications, where tape doesn't work too well. This also adds total insurance that the exciter will be permanently placed and not be able to vibrate off of tape over time. At almost 15 bucks a piece I think they are very well made and are well worth the money. They are capable of handling moderate power and have the ability to produce a full spectrum in the audio range with proper tuning of surface materials, sizes and densities. These exciters have passed my expectations for what a proper exciter should do. I am extremely pleased with the over all sound quality and simply amazed that a full range can be achieved where the typical frog exciters do not do. The exciter has plenty of bass travel and can produce some really deep bass vibrations that transmit very well through high density materials. As with most exciters, experimentation is required. I found it was easy to achieve perfect results with minimal design theory with these exciters.I will be ordering more in the next few weeks. Thanks PE for a great all around exciter that works well.

Dayton Audio DAEX58FP Flat Pack 58mm Exciter 25W 8 Ohm

How would these sound if I stuck a couple on the bottom of my desk / table top.  It is ~1" MDF.  Would it work at all or is that just too heavy to expect reasonable results?

Asked by: Dorcus Maximus
Unfortunately these will have very little output mounted to a heavy dense surface like that.

Model DAEX58FP. Would using two of these attached to a plate glass store front window transmit sound to the outside world? I have a small 25W/CH amp I could use.

Asked by: schonstl7
Yes, these will transmit sound on either side of the glass, although if the window is double paned the outside sound will be very much quieter and likely inaudible.

I realize that none of these are "audiophile" but of all the exciters available, which one should I select for best overall sound quality? Or, another way, widest frequency range? I was guessing this one due to it's larger diameter, but it's not clear.

Asked by: Oronymo
Generally the larger diameter the driver, the more power handling and sensitivity it will have due to the larger voice coil. The frequency response will ultimately be determined by what this is mounted to. Unfortunately we are not able to play with multiple exciters for comparison.

Do these exciters require a high pass filter or can I plug them up directly to the output on a amplifier?

Asked by: juan23
These will be okay played full range although the output level will be limited. A high pass filter will allow them to handle their full RMS power.

Will these work good and have decent bass response on a regular 24" X 24" drop ceiling tile? From the looks of things I could easily install 24" X 48" tiles if the bass response, overall sound quality and output would be better.

Asked by: Fixer
These will work well for the application, however they will likely not produce much below 80-100 Hz due to the small voice coil and high free air resonance.

what is the range of hz it transmit. is this a base low sound transducer?

Asked by: avigail
The overall frequency response depends entirely on the surface this is mounted to. With limited Xmax I would not expect these to play very loud below about 100 hz or so.
