Dayton Audio DA30 2 x 15W Class D Bridgeable Mini Amplifier

Dayton Audio's DA30 is the ideal amplifier for commercial audio installations such as classrooms or offices, where a small, low wattage power amp is required. This palm-sized Class D amplifier sits inconspicuously on a desktop, and can also be installed on walls or under cabinets by using the included brackets. Perfect for powering ancillary zones in large setups, or mounted on or near a video projector!

The DA30 delivers 15 watts per channel in stereo mode and 30 watts when bridged mono. Two stereo audio inputs increase versatility: dual RCA or a single 3.5 mm TRS jack. Separate treble and bass controls allow the sound to be tailored to the room. The DA30's auto-on feature increases energy efficiency. An all-metal chassis and the selection of high-spec internal components ensure reliable operation and a long service life.

Dayton Audio DA30 2 x 15W Class D Bridgeable Mini Amplifier
Dayton Audio DA30 2 x 15W Class D Bridgeable Mini Amplifier is rated 4.5625 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little ampI'm using this to drive a couple of speakers for my desktop PC and as a makeshift speakerphone amp. Works pretty well for what I need. Wish the LEDs were a little less bright and that both the RCA and 3.5mm could be used at the same time. If the 3.5mm wire is plugged in the RCA jacks are disabled. Other than that all is well. Time will tell on durability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Switch from stereo to bridgeSwitch from stereo to mono bridge was installed backwards. When on stereo it's mono and bridge it's stereo.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for the priceWe used this on a package we sold. It is a nice small unit yet powerful enough to run 2 speakers in a video conference room. The upper end of volume does seem to distort. maybe the power supply is not large enough. But in our case it did fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect ReplacementI bult a Heathkit AA-14 back in the 1960s. When the left channel went out this summer I thought it was time for a replacement, after 40-some years - imagine that! Saw Dayton Audio's DA-30 and was a bit skeptical - the speakers are in the family room and serve all sorts of decks and the TV. But skeptical I am no more! I know it's not handy to access the bass, treble and balance controls, but it's set so it sounds excellent and I shouldn't have to tweak these with the screwdriver. It runs the old Electro-Voice inefficient speakers with plenty of bass, good treble and the power response is smooth and could blow you out of the family room. Thanks for such a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid amp, great valueI wanted a small amp to use for an outdoor speaker system. I have two Polk outdoor speakers and a subwoofer that is not powered. I had a very tiny 2 watt amp that wasn't quite beefy enough and clipped pretty easily, so I purchased the DA30 to replace it. Very clean sound, and is perfect for what I needed. Not a lot of features and inputs, but I don't really need much. Tone controls are recessed and need changing with a small screwdriver, but that isn't a big deal as I run it flat and can tweak levels with my tablet if need be. So far so good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little amplifierI bought this amp to pair up with one of Apple's "hockey puck" style Airport Express base stations. The amplifier's ability to turn itself on & off is a great feature for an Airplay setup like this, where I don't want the amp drawing full power all the time, but I still want to start listening to music without leaving the couch. The DA-30 fits almost perfectly under the Airport Express, and delivers plenty of power for my living room speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A terriffic little unitIn my opinion, NO flat-screen TV can produce a positive audio experience. I finally found a relatively small (23"# LED TV with an headphone jack. I connected that directly to the DA30. From there the output goes to a pair of #4 ohm# 3.5" Dayton full range drivers. Sounds great. Considering that I'm always within 3 feet of the speakers, the volume control on the DA30 never goes past 9 o'clock. The speakers are made of solid birch baffles with PCV tubes #4" inner diameter x 6" long#.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for my applicationThis amp is being used to power a pair of DIY speakers above my kitchen cupboards, hidden behind the crown moldings and fed by the audio output of an Apple Airport Express. The remote turn-on allows this amp to be remotely located and to only power up when needed. The treble control lets me dial a little sparkle back into the speakers that is lost due to their less than ideal location pointed up at the ceiling. The removable speaker connector is handy, and the ability to bridge to mono would work well if using two of these for higher power stereo use or a low power subwoofer, but minimum impedance falls to 8 ohms mono.Overall a terrific little package. I removed a star for consistency as the first amp I received had a faulty mono/stereo switch on the rear. Parts Express did a flawless job of getting a replacement to me very quickly.Very happy with this amp! Its unique features make it perfect for my somewhat unconventional application. It's no powerhouse, but it gets the job done nicely. I have tunes in my kitchen, and she can't complain about having to look at speakers and wires everywhere!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used The DA30 in a Conference Room A/V SystemI used one of these units in a simple conference room A/V system installation, together with a pair of Dayton Audio Micro Edge angled in-ceiling speakers installed in the ceiling tiles at the front of the room. The source was a PC that was connected to an LCD TV monitor mounted on the wall. The conference room seats eight, and this amp fills the room with big sound. It's surprising how loudly this amp can play, even with only 30 watts of output. When I fired it up, my boss asked me, "Does it have to be so loud?" Maybe the emphasis on wattage is misplaced.Since then, the DA30 has been completely reliable in this application. It's small enough that it stays completely hidden away in the desk where the presentation computer is located, and the auto-on feature works perfectly. There is no noise or hiss when the amp is powered on. I could have used a DTA-1 for my installation, and it might have been cheaper, but this amp has the feel of quality that I expect from a professional-level product, and I know I made the right choice for the people that will use this conference room.

Dayton Audio DA30 2 x 15W Class D Bridgeable Mini Amplifier

How would this amp work with Polk Audio R50s? Just want to add them to an old TV and like the idea of a small amp with auto on.

Asked by: TXAG10
This amp will power them but the total output will be limited. If you keep the bass level down at higher volumes you will be better off. If you only need them at moderate levels it should be perfect.

Will this power a single 4" micro sub that is 4 ohm while in bridge mode?

Asked by: climatemaster15c
This amplifier is only rated to drive 8 ohm loads, when run in bridged mode.

Will this amp work and have usable output with 12VDC?

Asked by: Ajbastro
The specs call for a 24vdc power supply, so it's highly unlikely. Even if one could get any output from 12vdc, the probability of catastropic damage from under-powering should convince you not to try it.

Defeat Auto On feature

Is there a way to defeat the auto on feature? The reason is because if you are listening at a very low level so as not too disturb others the amp will "auto off" so to speak. The threshold for auto on/off for me is set too high. I am quite willing to dive into the circuit board and defeat it or change a resistor/capacitor value to change the threshold. Thanks.
Asked by: chasw98
We do not currently have any way to defeat the Auto on circuit on this amp.

Can this amp be used strictly in mono mode for a single monitor speaker?

I would like to upgrade the stage monitor speaker system in our church. The features of the Dayton DA-30 stereo amp seem suited for our needs (tone control and price). However, our available audio input signal is mono, not stereo. Can this amp. be connected in mono mode? If so, how is this accomplished and what parts are required?
Asked by: sdlony
You would have to adapt your signal cable to a 3.5mm male plug. Use a male plug, NEVER use a "Y" adapter on inputs; only outputs. BAD THINGS CAN HAPPEN IF YOU GET THIS WRONG.Having said that, I would question whether or not this is a good choice for your purpose. In a small, traditional church needing only a little vocal help, maybe. In anything else, ie. larger, needing instrument monitoring, Charismatic or other church engaging in lots of praise music, choral, instrumental presentations, 30 watts won't do anything but distort. In those applications I would recomend buying a power amp to match the rating of the monitor. This would have worked fine in the Presbyterian church in which I was raised, but they still don't have a pa. Too smallHope this helps.

Is the tone control accomplished in the analog domain?

Looking for detail on the EQ functions. Also, is the amplifier wired with one channel flipped in polarity to avoid "pumping"?
Asked by: chmedly
Take a look at the price, the size and the intended purpose, then ask your questions again. As to eq, I'm thinking linear taper potentiometer.

Powering 4 speakers

I'm thinking about doing an in wall setup in my garage powered by this amp. Question is, will it be okay to run 2 sets of in walls with final load of 4 ohms to each channel of this amp?
Asked by: paragv
From a purely technical point of view, yes. This amp is rated to drive a 4 ohm/channel load. The only question would be what you expect to get from this setup. At 15 watts per channel into 4 ohms, this is not exactly a powerhouse. Assuming 2-8 ohm speakers/ch for a 4 ohm load, you'll get only 7 1/2 watts per unit; 7 1/2 w MAX. That's not much. And if you want it loud, that's not nearly enough. You need to supply more information about your expectations and what you'll be driving with it.

Is the power rating RMS or peak? Is the THD rating at rated output? THD rating at 1000Hz or 20-20K?

Asked by: Tin Ears
The power rating is RMS. The THD is stated 20-20K and should be at rated output into a stable load.

Could you describe the main amp(s) IC? Efficiency and THD resemble Class T.

Asked by: TechTJe
This amp uses class D topology with a TDA8932T at its heart.

How do I connect stereo input for mono output?

I am considering combining stereo inputs from an iPod and using this amplifier in mono mode to connect to a single speaker. Do I need to build a resistive summing network to combine the signals first? Or does the amplifier combine the signals for me if I input them to the 3.5mm input? What will be the negative effects of either of these connection methods for listening to music?
Asked by: CKnight
This amplifier uses the right input for bridged mode so a summing network will need to be in place in order to combine both channels.
