Dayton Audio DA270-8 10" Aluminum Cone Woofer
Dayton Audio DA270-8 10" Aluminum Cone Woofer is rated 4.5455 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like-em!Bought two and installed them in separate ported cabinets. I suppose I may have done audiophile heresy by using them as subwoofers instead of woofers ,but they sound great! They are connected in parallel to a Dayton Audio SPA-250 plate amplifier with a 4 ohm inline resistor to have the 8 ohm load. Cabinet sizes are 1.08 and 1.34 cubic feet. What attracted me to buy them was their reasonable cost and the Xmax of over 6mm. They seem to have a break in period of 2 or 3 days of use. Lots of choices at Parts Express . So far I am happy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good WooferI needed to replace the blown woofers in my JBL LXE-990 loudspeakers. I couldn't find any recommended substitutes. I picked these. They fit, and they work. Since they are heavier than the originals, I was hoping for better sound. Instead, they are about the same, or maybe a little brighter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dayton speakers performanceThe speakers were bought as replacements for a pair of Jbl woofers. They have outperformed them so far and I can't be happier. Very good speakers indeed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for a high performance two or three way system.I'm using this woofer in a two way system crossed at 2.5k to a DC28F-8 Dayton tweeter in a 1.18 cu ft sealed enclosure. The bass response is excellent. This speaker has a near 15dB peak at 4-5k, so needs to be crossed over at 2.5k or below. At this crossover point the 10" handles midrange frequencies surprizingly well with minimal harshness. There is a gasket on the back side of the basket rim, aiding in front mounting. A very versatile woofer, and one I plan on using in a future three-way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FittingSound is very good! Price and technology is right on. Installation was interesting in that the units were a bit larger than the original Advents and if course none of the holes lined up. Once in place they sound better than the originals ever have!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For the price, can't beat itI have two of these each in a 36in custom designed and built obelisk tower. They're paired with Dayton Audio DC50F-8 2" Dome's and Goldwood GT-324's.They're truly beautiful. They sound great and really hold their weight. I'd definitely buy these again if I were rebuilding the towers. We've also tried ESS 689-1012 10's and these perform just as well in our configuration for $100 less per woofer.I'm definitely happy. I've had many compliments on the system.

crossover frequency?

I want to get this subwoofer along with the 5 1/4'' and a tweeter and was wondering what would be a good crossover. I have another set of speakers with this crossover at the lowest possible frequency (375/3,000 Hz) and want something with a higher frequency and was wondering out of the Dayton audio assembled passive crossovers what would be a good 3-way to order?
Asked by: lytro96
I would recommend either of the two below.

Sealed vs. Ported?

I'm looking to pair this speaker with the morel MDT12. I think I can cross them at 2k. Looking to mimic a set of EPI 120B's...Aiside from that, I'm really having a hard time seeing if this specific woofer can be used effectively in a ported setup. Moreover, if anyone has had experience with this woofer in a sealed box vs a ported box.Can you provide input on this?
Asked by: zinger084
This driver is best suited for a sealed enclosure. A 2.25 ft3 box will give you an f3 of 45.72 Hz. This is going by the listed specs. I own 2 of these and they really sound great. However, I did not like them crossed high. I have them crossed around 500hz in a 3-way.

use for these in a 2-way

I see that these have a somewhat nasty peak 4.5k However they model very well in a large vented enclosure and seem as thought they would fill the bill for midbass / strings and the like. question is-> with a vifa d26tg-25-06 how does one blend them at 2.5k?? Please help as I am not able to post on the forum yet....
Asked by: Beelish
This would be a better choice of tweeter... it has an Fs: 880 Hzhttp://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=264-1022&FTR=d27tg-35-06
