Dayton Audio DA135-8 5-1/4" Aluminum Cone Woofer
Dayton Audio DA135-8 5-1/4" Aluminum Cone Woofer is rated 4.0833 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't top them for this price. These are fine little woofers if used properly. They sound best with a LR-4 X-over at 1.8Khz. If crossed over above 2k their response begins to look a bit ragged. I've got mine coupled with some old (but very good) Seas tweeters I had left over from another project and they sound great together. Here is a look at what their response can look like with a LR-4 x-over at 1.8khz....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the money.I bought these as replacement woofers for a pair of minimus11 speakers and they worked well with only minor mods. I had to truncate the frame slightly and fab some clips to hold the speaker in, all done to conform to the constraints of the cast aluminum enclosure. That being said, these speakers sound excellent with tight bass and good overall definition. The only worry I had was pairing an aluminum cone woofer with a paper cone tweeter, but to my untrained ears they work well together. I am satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful in various situations, very well-defined sound, good-loooking too!I have used these in two different projects. The first was a simple two-way system paired with the DC28F-8 tweeter, with two of these DA135-8 per channel in a 1 ft^3 ported narrow tower style cabinet. The system looked amazing and sounded nice, and in that configuration these drivers could push out sound below 40hz, which is incredible for drivers this size, but I think that I was trying to make them do too much (they were covering from 40hz all the way to 2200hz).The second, far more successful project was a three-way, paired with the same tweeter but also with the SD215A-88 subwoofer, crossed (2nd order) at 2500 and 250hz respectively. (The mids are sealed/stuffed about 0.2ft^3 and the sub is ported about 0.8ft^3). This configuration sounds absolutely phenomenal. I think that although these drivers can certainly handle bass quite well considering there size, they perform best if they can focus on the midrange.I highly recommend these drivers for a three-way system, but they can also work as a bass driver if needed as well. Thanks to PE and Dayton Audio!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High quality sound ,excellent price.I used a pair of these in Boston Acoustics A-40 cabinets with a .50" composite wood cover over the existing speaker cut outs. With a 4"long 1.5"port in the rear of the cabinets.I used a quarter bag of acousta-stuf in each cabinet.I am very pleased with the sound quality and bass along with a clean transparent midrange. The speakers olny come with a cardboard ring that will easily bend the frame,. mounting from the top or bottom.I fabricated a correct gasket from a turntable mat(solid rubber).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent ReplacementUsing these as upgraded woofers for my JVC PC-55 boombox. Was using the boombox crossed-over at 60Hz with an active crossover and subwoofer handling the lower frequencies. I don't recommend that. Unless you drive lower frequencies through this woofer, it sounds too much like a midrange-only driver (with an Fs of 56Hz, no surprise). Allowing low frequencies to this driver must have a damping effect on the cone and this driver does well that way.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good mid range for big front speakers! !!!I used theses in a set of speakers My brother and I put together. 12 on the bottom, then the great 5 1/4 and dayton dc28f tweeter on top. WOW,even with the RCA 12 100 watt woofer they still have great bass. I think the 5 1/4 is why also have a 4" port. The tweeter is the cherry on top. Another GREAT dayton product. Thank you Parts Express. P.S. I used dayton 3 way cross overs that made the difference.

do the optimum size cabinet volumes include or exclude the driver displacement ?

Asked by: Phil D
The volumes provided are net volumes so they do include driver and port displacement.

What size box should I use for 2 of these in a mtm design

Asked by: okiefz1
A sealed enclosure will need to be 0.5 cubic feet which will yeild an F3 of about 80 Hz. A vented enclosure will need to be 1 cubic foot with a 2" diameter port that is 3" long for a tuning frequency of 43 Hz.

Crossover impedance?

In the graph the woofer is shown at around 10-11ohms. at 2k-2.5kHz. should i use this impedance or the nominal impedance when calculating a crossover?Thanks-Julian
Asked by: RushGuy2112
Use the impedance at or near the frequency you want to use to crossover.

Freq response

Hi there,Is it possible to provide a frequency response diagram? Thanks
Asked by: natureloop
15-15KHz according to the description. I find it hard to beleive that these will go down to 15Hz flat if that is your concern. More like 150Hz. Could be a typo...chart: Google audio chart or "C-weighting."
